QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 03:06 AM) What do we do if Beckham outs on the first pitch again? Just laugh

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 03:04 AM) Getz has a 607 OPS right now. That's not going to get it done. He needs to be at 650 at least, because he's not nearly the player defensively that Nix is. At least Ramirez, we know what he's capable of doing. There just seemed to be too many assuming that it would be easy for Chris Getz to go out and hit 280-290 with a 340-360 OBP. I would take 340, but you're right, with the lack of pop, 360 is more like it. And he doesn't have the stolen base ability of a Chone Figgins type either. Getz is a perfect example of be careful what you wish for. People wanted a grinder with decent speed, so we end up getting a below average offensive producer. It's why Alexei should have stayed at 2nd, and you groom Beckham to play SS. If Fields and/or Viciedo can't play 3b, then you fire your scouting.

Wise has an OPS around .400 this year. Just remember, he's going to be facing a LHP tomorrow.

2009 Cubs thread
How does that Reds team ever win with Votto out? The lineups for the Braves and Reds this week have been terrible.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:58 AM) im not sure why im this mad....objectively looking at our lineup...only two guys (Thome and Konerko) are above average major league hitters....frankly i was a huge chris getz fan at the start of the season...but if he's not getting on base at a .360 or so clip he's worthless The only reason he was projected to be a starter after last year was caused he showed some pop. He's shown none of that this year, so it's making those projections look way off. Fields not panning out at 3rd base really, really sucks for this franchise.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:50 AM) My initial reaction to this is no. Tear that bullpen apart in a firesale. Don't want to expose Carrasco in a starting spot and lower his trade value. Carrasco isn't going to bring you back much. Dotel and Jenks are the two relievers to look to deal.

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:46 AM) Cy Pavano with 70 through 6. f***ing PATHETIC. Blow this s*** up Patience...if we continue to play this bad over the next 2 weeks, the season will be over and then the trade deadline selling will begin.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:42 AM) Poreda with 7 Ks in 5.2 IP....unfortunately he's continued to be wild with 5 BB....hopefully his increased BBs this year is due to trying to get a hold of his offspeed stuff, cuz last year he had pretty good control...this year its been less than good His numbers are shockingly similar to what Cotts did.

Sweet, more first pitch outs.

If things go bad the rest of the year, I hope we give Carrasco a chance to start.

Tigers won, but Jayson's PEDs using brother just choked against the Cubs.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) this is as bad as i've seen Danks in quite some time He's been just as bad lately, he just faced some bad hitting teams against LHP. This Indians lineup matched up great against him.

Wow, 3 homers allowed. Can't say I'm surprised. What a terrible stretch of games.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:35 AM) danks command has been horrendous....when he was in his groove last year he could place his fastball and change at will Quite simply, he's pitching just like he did in 2007. We just have to pray that 2008 wasn't a fluke.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) He's probably just overanxious to get his first hit. Time to call up the Birmingham lineup. There ya go, Fathom. At least it's you. Can you believe it's been 4 years since we used to argue every day about the 2005 team?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) I wish we could pinpoint what the variable is that determines who shows up, corpseball or the thunder. If it's home this year, it's corpseball.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) Walker needs to be gone. Getz needs to sit. And a rule needs to be put in place - you swing at pitch 1, you sit. I can't remember what manager did that this year... but goddamnit we need some f***ing management of this team. There's very little discipline on this team. When you're at the actual games, it's astonishing how little energy there is. Pods flew out to CF yesterday, and he wasn't even to first base by the time the ball was caught.

If Greg Walker doesn't lose his job after this week, he might as well sleep with Ozzie's wife because he never will lose his job.

Haha...this is ridiculous. Wise swinging and missing at a 58 footer, and then not running on the drop 3rd.

BECKGAME THREADHAM: CLE @ CWS, 7:11pm WCIU
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:27 AM) very true, so it falls on two people, and two people only, in my eyes. Greg Walker primarily, followed closely by Ozzie and his f***ing terrible lineup management. It falls on KW. It sure would be nice at times like this if we could have acquired something useful for Swisher.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:24 AM) here's the kicker - go through ANY lineup in the game, and they've all got a weak spot or two. Not having a CF is NOT what's keeping us from being competitive. What it is, is a complete lack of fundamentals at the plate. THAT'S IT. It's just a poorly constructed lineup. You have the slow bashers in the middle followed up by singles hitters. That means you're going to need 3 hits to score a run if the middle of the lineup doesn't homer. Vafan had a great post about our lack of power at certain positions this year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:23 AM) Does this mean the BA as underutilized Torii Hunter clone victimized by Ozzie vendetta can officially be put to bed now? His swing is just so ugly. Anderson and Fields are two prime examples of why Greg Walker is not a good hitting coach.

Did you know Masset has an ERA below 1 this year? Good for him!
