Sox at Tigers April 15th game thread 12:05 scheduled first pitch
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) Not KW's fault that he had to cut payroll from the 2008 team. He did well just to get rid of Vazquez and Swisher quite frankly. He traded 2 legit major leaguers though and got no one that could realistically play CF or leadoff. He got one potential major league player in the trades, and that guy is Flowers. All I'm saying is that the lack of depth of major leaguers is very evident now after just 2 injuries.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) He obviously has a mandate from above to cut costs. But his talking up Lillibridge and Marquez and Nunez was just plain pompous. The only team that shred more payroll than the Sox this offseason was SD. I think the Sox are the odds on favorite to win the biggest payroll drop next year. You think the Sox will have a payroll around 75 mil next season?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) Negron is leading off for Charlotte and hitting .148. Some wanted KW to call him up. I want KW to say he failed this team this offseason also...we don't always get what we want.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) I believe the White Sox are 2 for 30 out of the leadoff spot this season. Keep bashing BA. It's sad that I would be happy to see Juan Pierre on this team.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) What does Betemit have to do to get playing time? We have a guy hitting well below .100 leading off for christ's sake. He's not a grinder I guess, because he actually has some offensive talent.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) I believe it's Ed Farmer who calls a bad sinker a "stinker". Marquez throws more stinkers than anybody you'll ever find. That's what's so frustrating about Marquez and Lillibridge. Anyone that saw them in the minors last year knew they weren't MLB caliber. Lillibridge honestly looks like a pitcher at the plate.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) A.J. and Ramirez will figure it out eventually. Unless of course I'm wrong, in which case we'll finish no higher than 3rd place. Yep, there's no point in getting worried about it right now. I wasn't expecting a 95 win team this year, as it was obvious there were some holes that might not have been filled. I will say that this team would get better if KW decides to stick Alexei in CF and call up Beckham.

I'd trade Poreda for Lastings.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) Meh. Quentin wasn't a question mark, and Linebrink hasn't proven anything (he's a great 1st half pitcher who struggles and/or gets hurt in the 2nd half). We're probably going to leave Tampa 5-7, and although the division is horrible and our pitching IF it stays healthy is pretty good, I'm not overwhelmingly happy. The organization and Linebrink never really said how worried they were that Linebrink was going to require major surgery if he came into ST this offseason and had no life on his pitches. Linebrink talked to a doctor friend of my dad's in February, and he thought he might be at 60% when the season started.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) yeah, but i just meant as a stop gap until getz gets back, because fields really doesnt strike out anymore than lillibridge does, and also has shown a keen eye so far this year JD looked like he had never seen a slider in his life in that AB All of our hitters have looked AWFUL against offspeed pitches so far this year.

Sox at Tigers April 15th game thread 12:05 scheduled first pitch
So after we fall to 4-4, I have to say I'm extremely happy with how things are going. Some of our big question marks, Quentin and Linebrink, look fantastic so far. Fields is having a good start, and showing a lot of improvement from his miserable 2008. To make things better, the AL Central doesn't look extremely strong this season. Considering how awful we swung the bats in the first few games, I can't complain at all.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Well to be fair to Ozzie this year, his chocies are limited. Our CF options all suck, and we're terrible at 2B with Getz gone (and he hasn't proven anything either). Other than that, who can we hit leadoff, Fields? Ramirez? Yeah, not good. This is much more on KW in my opinion. Yeah, it's more a philosophy of Ozzie's I disagree with than a huge complaint. The more I analyze things, the more I think I wouldn't mind Pierre in CF if he's going to play this style.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) Thats what im saying. It doesn't make sense that I'm so angry. I think I just can't stand watching BA play. Jose has actually been really encouraging. The Wise injury hurt. He's not good, but he was the best we had in the organization in CF. His swing was coming around, and you could tell he was more comfortable lower in the lineup.

Sox at Tigers April 15th game thread 12:05 scheduled first pitch
I just hate how Ozzie seems determined to have a fast player leadoff, no matter how awful they are. If Carl Lewis was on the Sox for a game, he'd leadoff. Betemit desperately needs more playing time against RHP...or else the Swisher trade looks even worse.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) can someone explain to me why rich harden is so hard to hit? he throws a fastball straight as an arrow ....occasionally hes upper 90s, but most of the time hes 92-94.....he gets so many swings and misses on it, its unbelievable Amazing location on his fastball above the belt. The Cubs rotation is ridiculous if he has any semblance of health this year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) The bigger problem is our best offensive chance in the game involved Brian Anderson and Brent Lillibridge batting. That is going to tend to lead to problems, even if a lefty were on the mound. I'll take my chances with Anderson against a LHP. With regards to Lillibridge, I wouldn't feel good about his chances if a 13 yr old was on the mound.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Don't ask me why but this game is making more angry than any game in a long time for some reason. Even more than the Minny series. It makes no sense. Why though..the match-up obviously didn't favor the Sox. Tigers also had chances, as they squandered 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Guys like Anderson, Ramirez, and Lillibridge aren't going to get it done right now against a tough righty.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) This is just pathetic What were people expecting? You play 7 righties against a pitcher who destroys them, and you're not going to have a lot of offense. We need Getz back ASAP, because we have one of the worst hitters in baseball getting the most at bats.

Even if we lose today, I think it's been a positive game. Contreras looked significantly better today than he did against the Twins last week.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) Would never want Swisher in CF. Hudson in CF would have been fine with me...although I don't think he would have signed here in the tougher league and having to play a new position on a one year contract while waiting for the economy to improve. How about this one...Swisher is better defensively in CF than Pods, no doubt about it.

It sucks knowing that with an extra 10 mil to spend, we could have signed Hudson to play 2B and have Swisher in CF this season. Those two holes are so glaring.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) I really hope Nix comes up and Lilli gets the hell out of here. He's not MLB caliber, and it's a disgrace he's on this roster.
