QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) IT was also the only inning he threw anything remotely close to the inner half of the plate. There's a belief in baseball that it's not the start on 3 days rest that hurts the pitcher the most...but rather it's the start after that start. Javy had absolutely no snap on his offspeed pitches, as he was having a hell of a time trying to keep the ball down. He never, ever pitches inside to righties.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) What team is going to take on 2 years and 23 million dollars for an aging choker with a .500 lifetime record? We'd have to eat about half of the money to get rid of him IMO. There's plenty of teams that will take him. He might be our most valuable asset this offseason on the market. His contract is damn good in this market. I could see a team like the Cardinals jumping at the chance to get him.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) Javy has been a choker his entire career, and he showed why last night. He's pitched in plently of big games, and never got it done. Guys that have his stuff and only .500 records tend to be mentally weak though, so it's no surprise. It's a shame he is signed through 2010. If the Sox fail to make the playoffs with Javy having a bad start at home vs the Indians, there is really no way they can bring him back next season.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 04:14 AM) -Our 2 biggest needs were OBP and Bullpen. He bought a new bullpen, which for the most part worked out (sans injuries). He then brought in 2 good career OBP guys, which didn't work out so well. -We now have Quentin, Ramirez, Floyd, Danks, Swisher, and Jenks to build around. I think pretty much any team in the MLB would take those building blocks, especially considering they cost us ~$100 a day in salary. -BA has shown he can play, so he will either get traded or get a shot. That leaves us with Thome-Konerko-Dye as DH options, and Swisher as a solid 1B option. So we have decent pieces to trade -You can't "brush aside" injuries to our only 2 All-Star players, our 5th starter, our setup man, our closer, and our first baseman as "minor". Who were these OBP players we brought in besides Swisher? Please tell me you weren't saying OC and his career .322 OBP was included i that. Also, Swisher loses any value he might have as a solid offensive contributor by putting him at first base. KW failed to get this team what it really needed....a leadoff hitter!

The ironic thing is that when the guy ran on the field, he was able to steal 2nd base off of AJP.

Love the headline on chicagosports.com "Vazquez flops again".

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:52 AM) I hate the Twins fans, what a bunch of jerks. Griffey hits a homer and they boo him coming around. It's a 9-3 game with 1 out to go and you boo a guy who just hit his 610th career homer. These are probably the same jackasses who were fair weather bandwagon jumpers when Griffey was the greatest thing on Earth 10 years ago. Wouldn't you be mad at someone for robbing a homer to prevent your team from making the playoffs?
-
How about giving Dye a day off, and playing Griffey in RF and put Anderson in CF?
-
And Griffey will be playing tomorrow.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:41 AM) This game clearly shows that there is something mentally wrong with us. We are scared. And that's why I said this has been a worst case scenario game. This team walked on the field with the philosophy they couldn't win here.
-
I don't care if Bob Gibson in his prime was pitching, we weren't going to win this game. This offense flat out sucks right now.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:36 AM) This post makes me fearful what KW will get in exchange for Javy. Something like Julio Lugo? Oh yeah...or someone like Troy Glaus.
-
QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:34 AM) I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight because of this, and tomorrow will drag on forever. Why, we're still up 1 1/2 games. It's not like this was a nail-biter. We got our ass kicked, plain and simple. There's not one play you can pull your hair out over.

GREAT INNING HORACIO! Forget about everything I've said, you're ready for clutch situations finally. Oh wait, you've been pitching in them for a month now.
-
QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:31 AM) You have to lay all of this at Kenny's feet...We needed releif pitching help at the trade deadline and he picks up yet another has-been player Ken Griffey, along with an awful relief pitcher. Kenny's knack for collecting relics is getting very old. You don't think the Sox will be stupid enough to pick up his option, do you? No way will they pick up his option. Griffey really needs to retire.
-
What's the Twins record vs righties and lefties this season?
-
Last pitch we'll see Boone throw with the Sox?
-
Think on the bright side....Horacio should be fresh for tomorrow!

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:12 AM) The fact that this organization starting with Hawk can't get off of their knees long enough to realize the Twins simply are not that good of a baseball team pisses me off to no end. This idea that they can't win in the dome is nonsense. The Twins bullpen sucks and for such a fundamentally sound team they sure have played terrible D the last month. Worse case scenario for the series is what's happening tonight.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:08 AM) He may be on to something actually. I was reading the other day about a study with people sleeping. When the researchers stuck rotten eggs underneath their noses while they were sleeping they had bad dreams. When they smelled something pleasant, they had good dreams. I wouldn't doubt hearing has some sort of effect. Give them ear plugs, and we'll be fine.

QUOTE (Allsox @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) I really wonder about that rift between Oz and Kenny as well. It's as if Ozzie's telling Kenny the players he got him like Vazquez and Griiffey shrivel up and die or flat out just can't play and he's used the opener to this series to prove it. No, it's because Ozzie LOVES his veterans.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 01:59 AM) After not even competing in this game, it's a two game series. Scott Baker 6 STRONG as expected and will probably go through this lineup easily for 2 more innings, saving the Twins BP. Expect more of the same NO MATTER WHO they throw out there tomorrow. Now, who believes the Whitesox can split a two game series in the dome WHEN THE GAMES COUNT? I don't. Season over. Take it from me...step away from the computer, and stop before you say stuff that will be used against you in every post you make. Root for the best, as if you think this team isn't that good, then it shouldn't hurt you if they miss out on the playoffs. Compared to what would have happened if we missed the playoffs in 2005, I won't lose much sleep if this team doesn't make it.
-
Damn air conditioner! Sox always seem to have warning track power here. Just think on the bright side...we still have 2 more chances to win ONE f***ING GAME! Even then, we still control our own destiny.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:55 AM) JD has his head so far up his ass right now. It looks like he would rather be anyplace else except on the field. I wonder if he's going through personal issues right now. DJ kinda alluded to it earlier, and I heard something along those lines a few weeks ago.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:55 AM) must he? isn't javy drawing a pretty sweet salary from the sox? Yes, because he'll be pitching a big game in front of his home crowd this weekend. Just think about that for a second...that could get ugly with the crowd.
