QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) How about the guys that were waiting to see him against someone other than the Tigers? Hmmm? SP has been solid, first real blip for the pen. Its going to happen, move on. I'm pretty happy, as Floyd looked better than he ever has, and Quentin continues to be a pleasure to watch. Maybe it's because I don't expect this team to win 100 games, but seeing individual performances like this makes it a pretty positive night.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:01 AM) Great job by Floyd. Yep, I've debated typing this after the game, but here it goes: I would rather the Sox lose tonight, given that Floyd was great, instead of winning 10-8 and Floyd going 3 innings and allowing 5 runs.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:43 AM) I guess we will see how this holds up the rest of the season when people aren't looking at scouting reports from last year. You may be right, but as a general rule, I never like hearing a guy's velocity is going down. And then it's said the guy is just becoming more of a pitcher or something to that effect (which to me is usually a euphemism for "he's losing his stuff"). This approach is not working out very well for Justin Verlander. Jenks had the same fastball last year that he has this year. He should throw that change-up more.

I really want to see Quentin continue to prove he can be an everyday corner outfielder. It's fun to watch players develop into big league hitters.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:39 AM) Bill Melton says Konerko looks like he is in the same funk he was in last year. Lovely. The more I see what someone like Swisher brings to the team, the more I want the Sox to trade PK. I'm one of his biggest fans, and never thought I'd say that.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:38 AM) He has saved how many games this year with the same stuff. The minute he blows a save, the radar gun police come out. He f***ed up, it happens. That's true, but his strikeout rate is alarming. Hitters no longer have to protect against his fastball, as he doesn't get near the swings and miss on the heater like when he first came up. He'll be ok, he's the least of our concerns. If he sucks this year, so will the team.

Ozzie: I don't care if Anderson made fun of your family, punched your dog, etc.....if he's on the roster, he needs to be on the field defensively in the 9th inning.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:31 AM) Yeah, gimmick LOOGY is all he is. Not anything to get excited about although I've seen people praise him pretty highly. And when used correctly, he can really bridge the gap from starter to bullpen. Considering we have two relievers in the bullpen in MacDougal and Masset that can't pitch in close games, we have to hope Ozzie uses Logan correctly. -
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:31 AM) Konerko needs a day off. His approach is s*** right now. The 3-4-5 hasnt clicked as a group all season long so far. For right now, move Dye to 4th, AJ to 5th, and Konerko to 6th. That absolute non factor in the 9 spot is a lingering issue.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:27 AM) Double whammy. Lose the game and blow through our bullpen. Javy might have to pitch a CG tomorrow unless he wants Mac closing it out for him. Boone Logan is terribly overrated on this board. No, Boone's one of the best lefty specialists in baseball. -
We face some legit offenses coming up. If the offense doesn't pick it up, we're going to be in trouble.

How fitting that it was on a hanging offspeed pitch? -

Terrible effort by Boone tonight. His fastball was down about 5 mph. Inexcusable loss! -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:18 AM) Is AJ against calling fastballs, or what. breaking pitch, breaking pitch, breaking pitch. No matter who the pitcher is. This is pathetic by AJ. This game is slipping away....definitely one of those 40 games or so that you need to win. -

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:18 AM) Boone looks terrible so far. Yes he does, no release point. He's too worried about Millar. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:15 AM) Is Masset dead or something? Why would you pitch him here? In games like this, you save your long man in case it goes 14 innings or so. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:15 AM) AJ has been getting cute behind the plate all night. Look at the pitches that have been getting crushed tonight by the Orioles. The pitchers hit their spot, the spot and the call is a bit bad. We just treated Millar like he was Albert Pujols. -

QUOTE (rcpweiner @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:13 AM) I didn't see it, but would BA have gotten to that ball over JD? He would have easily held Roberts to a single. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:11 AM) Well its extra innings, so that means that the only way we can score is via the dong. Or at least that's what the swings will tell you. Long looping power swings are broken out late in games, its a whitesox tradition. If we hold them down, at least we have Quentin up next inning. With AJP coming back to earth, Thome/Konerko/Uribe's struggles are going to be magnified. -

I'll just throw this out there, but the sooner we start putting Anderson in RF for defensive reasons late in the game when we're winning, the better we'll be. -

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 03:01 AM) I don't understand how that impacted the outcome of the game. We got to our closer with a 2 run lead in the 9th which is all you can ask for. Should have had a 3 run lead going into the 9th...that AJP error will probably never happen again in his time with the Sox. -

QUOTE (Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 02:58 AM) Still no earned runs yet tonight. There were 2 that inning. -
I miss the 98 mph fastball Jenks. This 4 pitch stuff isn't going to cut it all season.

I still can't believe Dye wasn't playing no double for Roberts. Especially considering how he's been pulling every pitch this series, he was way too far off the line.
