Maybe I'm missing something, but can someone explain why the down/yard thing looks like a tear drop on the screen?

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 12:23 AM) Yeah, as the illini clearly weren't in that game and it was a foregone conclusion they would get beat by the 'loaded' tarheels. WTF? I didn't think any other team could have beat them though, especially in St. Louis.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) What a crap statement. I was wondering who would take that the wrong way. The White Sox were the best team in 2005, and they got to face a team that they matched up very well against. The Astros had some easy outs at the bottom of their order in Ausmus and Everett, and weren't an instant offense type of team. Meanwhile, the Yanks and Red Sox have loaded rosters. I have confidence in the lineup of both teams, as they have no easy outs in their lineup, especially if Manny can return. Put it this way.....I was not rooting for the Illini a couple of years ago, and it was comforting knowing that the loaded Tar Heels were waiting for them in the finals. If it was possible that there would have been a team that was less talented/explosive, such as Kentucky, I wouldn't have been as confident heading into the championship game.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) I take solace in knowing the following... -The Mets are a better offensive club. -The Padres, if they make the playoffs, have MUCH better pitching. Really, if the Padres get there, they have as good a shot as anybody -- three man rotation lets them go with Peavy - Young - Maddux against anyone with that phenomenal bullpen. -Even if the Cubs did win the NL, the AL is soooo much better it isn't even funny. And I know you can point to the Cardinals of last year, but I'd say that was more of a fluke. Say, for example, you matched up the AL's worst playoff contender -- the Yankees -- with the NL's best (pick one). It's no contest. Trust me, I take a lot of solace knowing that teams like the Yanks/Red Sox exist on the other side of the bracket. As I tell my brother, it's not like they'll have to beat the Astros to win the WS.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) I don't know if the negotiating is even legal with tampering rules. I don't know how it works with potential owners. It would seem to me the new owner probably won't be in place before this contract has to be signed, and I find it highly unlikely the rest of baseball's owners would find it too amusing someone they just approved signed a player to a $300 million contract. I'm calling this BS. I wonder what type of contract ARod will sign in regards to what happens if it's found out he used performance-enhancing drugs.

Did Mike Cameron just get hurt? Atkins hit an ITP homer, and he was removed from the play. The Rockies are sure playing some good baseball.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) I don't know what's going to be worse this week -- seeing Cubby blue everywhere I look or seeing Fathom overrate them for the next seven days. The Bears really, really need to win tonight or it's going to be one looooooong week. I've been saying the same thing about them for a few months now. But you won't hear me mention much about them this week....I'll be more focused on who they play. In regards to who I want to see them play, it would go Mets, Padres, Phillies, and then DBacks. If the Cubs continue to get the long ball hitting and relief that they have been over the last few weeks, they'll be the team to beat in the NL.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) Do you think they can afford $150 million? Depending on their owner, who knows. If ARod is going to be given part ownership, it's likely he wouldn't get as much in terms of his contract as he would otherwise.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) They don't have nearly the money to afford another $30 million a year on that backloaded payroll that they have. We have no idea what their payroll will be.

Sox/Twins 9-23
I love that move from Gardenhire...I was hoping he'd get the chance to bat in the 8th inning. It will be nice not having to face him 6 series a year.

Javy Vazquez...
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I give him credit for a nice season. The way I see it is if several other players had performed to their capabilities as well as Javy has, we'd be in the playoffs. Good job Javy We were more than just several players performing better away from making the postseason. This team just didn't have the talent to be a playoff contender, and it started with the idiotic decisions regarding our LF/CF spot this season.

Sox/Twins 9-23
I want to see both of them brought back....but I think we need some righty relievers who can get lefties out. Guys like Wasserman can't face lefties, so Ozzie is going to have to be careful with how he uses the specialists.

21 straight games that Capuano has pitched in that the Brewers have lost. Maybe we'll get lucky and the Braves make a huge run and win the WC.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) Agree and good point on the pitch count. He does look to me like he's attacking the strike zone more and that's good. I noticed that he was gripping the ball rather aggressively when he was pitching out of the stretch, but there were sometimes where he seemed to rush the pitch, and the ball came out of his hand a little funny. I'm really not sure if he hand a good feel for the baseball before he threw it.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) The race is over guys Blame Norris Hopper....I really thought the Brewers were gaining momentum, and then that misplayed fly ball gave the Cubs the chance to comeback against the Reds, and they've been hitting the crap out of the ball since. The Brewers should have made the Pirates apologize for not playing Jack Wilson this wknd!

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) What an awful move. Where the f*** is Linebrink??????????? And it doesn't help that Texeira was out at first. Weeks has lost that team about 4 games over the last month with his defense.

Sox/Twins 9-23
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) If we were in contention for something, I would have agreed. But as it was, I think leaving him out there was the right decision. However, one thing I noticed this season while "watching" his outings on milbGameday: Floyd really runs out of steam around 100 pitches, more like 90. He'll cruise along for 90 then start getting wild, which is what happened today. If he's in the rotation next year, which looks like a good bet, Ozzie has to treat him with kid gloves after pitch 90. That's exactly what I was thinking watching him there....he's basically going to be a 5 inning pitcher for the Sox if he's in the rotation. Considering that Danks is in the same mode, we better have some quality long relievers next year.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Exactly. Punch Yost in the face? Wow. I couldn't imagine how much Brewers fans despise him. I can't believe they traded 3 of the better pitching prospects for Scott Linebrink, and then let their season rest on guys like Vargas, Ray King, McClung, etc. If he's injured, then that would be one thing. I haven't seen anything stating that he is. The Cubs are going to be able to line up their rotation now by resting their starters during the last season of the series.

Sox/Twins 9-23
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) Well he couldn't work out of it. 5 2/3 innings today, 4 ER, 100+ pitches. He lost his control in the 6th. I would categorize his outing today as so-so. As you and I always talk about, he lost his mechanics/release point. It was the main reason why I was hoping Ozzie would pull him after Cuddyer's single.
