QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) Fathom...do the Cubs have anything wortwhile in the minors in terms of catching prospects? I remember them drafting a whole boatload of them the past couple years but have any of them been doing anything? Fox is decent, but I'd really rather not deal with the Cubs. From a PR standpoint, the last thing the Sox need is to look like they're trading players that might help the Cubs make the playoffs this year.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) fathom, can you imagine how bad things would be for them right now without Ryan Braun. They would be Prince and a bunch of stiffs. They're just not a very good team. They had some guys playing over their head early on (Hardy, Vargas), but their starting pitching seems to be tiring. I think this is the 8th straight start of Capuano's that they've lost. To possibly lose 3 games from your lead during the week you're playing two of the worst teams in the NL is not how you want to go into the break. -
Two filthy 3-2 pitches by Vazquez.
-
It's entertaining to watch how poorly coached this team is (that's not all on Ozzie, either).

Prince hits a rocket off the wall to put the Brewers ahead. And just like that, the Brewers give the lead back up. They're not a very good team, as they only have one real good starter. And Ned Yost is leaving Capuano out to die right now. -
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 06:53 PM) Mercy! I knew I couldn't believe you! I've said on here before that Thome's chase for 500 is probably the thing I'll root for the most the rest of this year.
-
Wow...quite a strange homer. This is about as good as I've ever seen PK look.
-
14 more! If there's ever a perfect pitcher for Thome's swing, it's Silva.

Brewers offense looking like hell going into the ASB. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Owens has actually looked better this time up. I just question his bat speed. DJ pointed out about how on anything above the belt he tries to brings his hands from the bottom of the zone and up and that just slows you down. He's a terrible hitter....should be a career minor leaguer.

QUOTE(goblue5699 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) The Futures Game is my favorite part of All-Star weekend. Wait until De los Santos throws 89 mph fastballs, and Flash goes on suicide watch. QUOTE(soxchick1224 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) No kidding. All they were doing was talking about Buehrle. It makes you wonder why was Buehrle talking a ton of pictures with members of organization and front office people? Is that what he was doing today? Oh, and he was definitely clearing out his locker the other day.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) WGN is apparently trying to make us miss Buehrle more. What they do? QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) What? There are several achievements with the win today. With a win we move within 5 games of Minnesota; we go into the break with at least as many wins as KC, Texas, AND Baltimore. We can also get to .500 vs the Division with the destruction of the Twins. This win might even light a fuse. Keep it up....awesome stuff!

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) futures game is on espn 2 at 3... something to look forward to. Already taping it.

I don't think I could care less about this game.

It's going to be fun watching Vazquez, Contreras, Danks, Floyd, and Gio try to lead the league in losses in 2008 and 2009. I have no problem trading Buehrle, but it signals that Garland will be gone also, and because of that, KW will be timid to trade Contreras.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) At times, I just hate Sox fans. I'm listening to this AWFUL show on the Score where Offman is having a fantasy GM segment where retarded callers pitch their ridiculous trade proposals. My 2 favorite: It's just going to get worse over the next 20 days.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) Frustrated a little? Anyway, he doesn't exactly have the easiest role, but he has some decent stuff. I'm not prepared to ditch him... He sucks....outside of his first relief appearance and his Cubs start, he's one of the worst pitchers in Sox history. 51 base runners in his last 17 relief innings is all you need to know.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) chisox72, I agree 110%. Taking a step back, I think they made their minds up about Buehrle in the offseason. The guy was given the ball every opening day for several years, then all of a sudden you give the ball to someone else. Some will say that was because how he pitched in 2006, but if that was the case Garland would've gotten it once or twice based on performance. And don't forget the main acquisitions in the trades were two lefty starters, as well as drafting another lefty with our first pick this year. At this point, we just have to hope KW surprises us by who he acquires in the trade.
-
At least this will save us enough money to sign Ichiro this offseason (and yes, when I say Ichiro, I mean Rowand).

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 04:15 AM) I want someone in the Chicago media to get some quotes from KW tomorrow... or else! KW had some quotes tonight....he said he doesn't know where the agent's comments came about things being taken off the table. Of course, no one believes this.

Trades are not allowed to be announced on the Monday/Tuesday of the ASB, are they?
-
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) Basically Buerhle's side removed the full NTC demand but added an 5th year option ($17) that would kick in if he was traded, and the Sox refused. Yep, and that would be a no lose situation for the Sox....which shows you how they really felt about this.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:54 AM) fathom, you have no idea what good value is because most of the players you get back you have never seen play. You will go by what others say and it will take some time to evaluate. My point is, this team is going nowhere with the players we have therefore somethign needs to change. You cannot get good return for crap players but you can get good return for your best players. The best players on a crap team. SELL why you can. Crede is now damaged goods, the whiteos suspected he would get hurt and they took the chance. They got burned. He cannot be moved until he can prove again that he can play, but this is the year to have moved him if he could play. We are losing, Individual stats mean nothing UNLESS you use them to trade people. I disagree with your opinion on never seeing these guys. My most trusted "source" sees hundreds of minor league games each year, and he's able to give me good reports on these guys. I probably have a better idea of what type of players these minor leaguers are than 99 pct of the people on here. Oh well....hopefully we'll get some guys that are in the majors now. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 02:58 AM) Look at the rumors and I think you can see what KW wants: a young leadoff hitter to satisfy Guillen's desire for speed at the top. They obviously asked for Ellsbury and Theo responded by suggesting a package including Julio Lugo (who formerly had leadoff skills). I just have a feeling they'll end up with a AAA version of Pods...it's not a good feeling. We better not get Lugo. If we trade Buehrle, it better free up money instead of giving us another bad contract.
-
Even though I'm mad now, I'll be ok with everything if we get good value in return.
