To contend next year...
Or find a LF, pencil in Crede at 3b, and let Fields get a ton of at-bats against LHP, play twice a week at 3rd base, etc. Even if it's a LF who excels vs RHP, but struggles vs LHP, that's fine. Get Fields some experience in LF as well then. I'd definitely like to see more creativity by Ozzie/KW, especially when it comes to facing lefties.

Mike Myers Signs/ Andy Gonzalez optioned to Charlotte
I don't want him on the team....he'd have no purpose and Ozzie would just use him incorrectly.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) If Floyd starting sometime soon? Thought this would be a good chance to bring him in. He is our long reliever. He went last night.....probably too much for her to pitch on consecutive days. Please Hawk, don't start b****ing about a correctly called pitch.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Wednesday is my last scheduled Sox game this year, and I get to see Jose Contreras pitch.....and likely half the bullpen, too. OH, GOODIE. I'm going to a game with in-laws I don't like on Friday with Garland on the mound surrounded by thousands of Red Sox fans.....I can't wait.

Making a list...checking it twice.
#20 scares me so much. I heard bad reports on his performance for Team USA.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) Can Vidro still play second? Isn't he a free agent? His power has dipped but he still gets on base at a good rate and doesn't strikeout much which would please Guillen. His defense makes Iguchi look like Roberto Alomar.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) I don't think Garland cares anymore. Can't really blame him either. He could pitch a great game and still get the L since this team is terrible. It wouldn't shock me if he's not giving it 100 pct in an effort to save his shoulder. However, he's costing himself an absolute fortune with each s***ty start he has.

To contend next year...
Josh Fields is the least of our problems for contending. There's about 20 other spots on the team, and many jobs in the front office, that need to improve upon to have any chance. This team is so far away from competing.

We ALWAYS embarass ourselves on Sunday's in Seattle.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) Toby Hall this season for the White Sox has a CERA of 6.61 and rising. For comparison's sake, Gustavo Molina's CERA this season was 4.26 and Pierzynski's CERA is 4.49. Also, Toby Hall's career CERA is in the 5's. I bring this up because Toby Hall has been just calling terrible games and I don't think he has much, if any, chemistry with any of the pitchers. I could see Donny Lucy being a september call up and possibly replace Hall next season. I can't believe we didn't DL Hall in July and let him get the surgery. Good point about the chemistry though....it seems odd. This is embarassing right now....someone has to lose their job.

Does Owens stink?
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) We should draft our own Ellsbury -- problem solved. Don't have to worry about trading for anyone. We can then draft our own Clay Buchholz while we're at it. Imagine that for a second; drafting players comparable those two with our first two selections. Seems almost impossible to expect, I know. But...but...but....we don't draft high enough to get possible superstars. Any bulls*** excuse like that is null and void after we were as cheap as possible this draft.

Congrats to the Brewers and Capuano for losing 16 straight games in which he started.

Nice swing by Owens there.

I know Garland looks terrible, but Toby Hall is a horrible pitch-caller.

Cubs are going to win the division by more than 5 games. I'm of the opinion that I want to see them playing the Mets in the first round. That's a great offensive team if Alou/Beltran are healthy.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Maybe the extra helpings at the buffet kept him from running down the line fast. Wait till he becomes Jabba the Hut when the 5 million dollar option is picked up. We have four slap hitters in our lineup today.....how sad is that?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Milwaukee has been pretty damn close. Ned Yost and Doug Melvin should be the laughingstock of baseball. They've blown about six, 5 run leads in the last two months.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) God this team is beyond awful. They should define a new term for how bad we are. I can't think of a single team playing worse baseball right now. It's mind-boggling the job security that KW, Ozzie, and Cooper seem to have.

Ah Scott Linebrink...good thing you sucked this year so KW won't give you 5 mil a year this offseason.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) He has to be me moved this offseason. PERIOD. I rather takes my chances on Contreras and getting a good return for Garland instead of trading Contreras and cash for nothing and putting up with this Judy s*** for another year. I know people always get on Garland for showing no emotion, but it sure seems like he's ready for this season to end.

SOX @ Mariners 3:05 PM CSN
Garland is just terrible right now. He's on his way to having an ERA near 5. Really should have traded him at the deadline while he still had tremendous trade value.

Capuano is such a loser....how many 5 run leads can one team blow in a season?

It's sad when Fields is the 3rd best hitter in the lineup.

Sox @ M's
Nice to see Ozzie leave Wasserman in to face a plethora of lefties. I'm going to be so pissed off if Owens is starting for the Sox next year....he's a one dimensional player, and that dimension is probably the least productive of all of them.
