  1. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 04:07 AM) He has ripped Pods and his defense. He has started to platoon Pods. What more do you want him to do? Hasn't he ripped Garcia's fastball? I believe he has. Who cares who he rips? I really don't understand it. They players aren't crying or upset about it. Why the hell are you? Grow some thicker skin and move on. For the love of God man. Whe freaking cares. WHAAAAAA!!!!!!!! Because he keeps saying these types of things in the press, and he's going to lose his clubhouse. As a couple of informed posters have noted over the past few months, everything isn't as great as you might think in the clubhouse. I still won't forget the look of disgust that Thome and Dye had when they saw Ozzie chewing out Garland in that Rangers game.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 04:03 AM) I read to "decide to become a power hitter or a baserunner." What is your definition of a power hitter? To me that is Jim Thome, David Ortiz, or any other 40 homer guy. What is your definition of a baserunner or stolen base guy? 30-40 stolen bases? That is what I think. I am getting from this that Ozzie wants him to becaome a 10-15 homer guy with 30-40 SBs. He is not telling him to stop hitting for power. The power will be there just because he has natural power. Ozzie has always talked about speed. Speed does help a lot. Speed and defense is championship baseball. Speed gives you a lot more options and a lot of different ways to score. Brian Anderson will never, ever become a 30-40 stolen base guy. Quite simply, he's not that fast. I'd be pleased with 15 homers and 15 steals for him. I think he has the potential to hit for more homers than that, but I'm not exactly writing in Anderson as a future 2-3-4-5 hitter for the Sox. Put him in the 7th spot, and we'll be just fine.
  3. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 03:54 AM) Fathom do you at least agree you like all fans love Oz when we win? Admit it ... last year after we won it all were there any negative thoughts in your mind about Oz?? Go back in time as you celebrated all those postseason wins. Any negativity at all toward Oz? Be truthful. A year later, he's the same guy. We are a twoweek win streak from all loving the guy again. Not saying we will do that (knock on wood). Nope, I don't care what the Sox accomplish on the field, you'll never hear me say that I love Ozzie. I congratulated him for being the manager of the AL Central winner, and then winning the World Series. Yes, I had some complaints about Ozzie when I thought he made brutal managerial moves (bringing in Hermanson to face Lane was awful, as was bringing in Marte vs the Red Sox when the umpire had no strike zone). The one thing I'll give Ozzie a lot of credit for is that he shut up during the postseason. He was pretty good during the offseason until a few weeks before Spring Training. Then, the ARod stuff came out in the paper, and he's been an idiot pretty consistently with what he says since then. People seem to forget that during our bad stretch last year when the Indians almost caught us, Ozzie was making some absolutely terrible decisions. He was still leaving in our starters too long (Mr. Garcia), and we blew quite a few games during that stretch due to lack of urgency in his decisions. I absolutely hate the way that Ozzie seems to criticize his young players more than his veterans. Who's to say that guys like Pods and Garcia don't need the same kick in the ass that McCarthy or Anderson do? My whole argument about this Anderson stuff is that I didn't see the need for these comments about Anderson right now. The Sox aren't sucking because of Brian Anderson only.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 03:53 AM) He has said more than that about Pods. He has said that he needs to improve defensively, that he doesn't understand how someone with that much speed can be that bad defensively. He has now platooned the man with a couple of career long backups. What is worse than that? How has Oz treated BA like crap on and off the field? Because he is treating him with rookie kid gloves and not playing him every day? Picking and choosing the spots to play him? Sounds like most rookies to me. He has treated BA like crap off the field by what he has said in this article? WOW! Talk about thin skin. The kid is near the end of his first full year in the majors, and Ozzie is busy talking about how he either has to become a power hitter or a speed player. How about he just becomes a stand-out defensive player and tries to hit .270 each year with 15 or so homers? It doesn't matter. The more I hear Ozzie talk about getting more speed, the more I feel like Pierre will be our CF next year.
  5. Ozzie says that Sweeney will start on Thurs night. Looks like another night off for Anderson, as I'd imagine Ozuna will be in LF.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 03:34 AM) He has ripped Pods too. Don't you think he is being more careful with BA because he is a rookie? That is the way I see it. He has called Pods out as well and has recently stated he will be platooning. I know a lot of you guys have a man crush hard on for BA, but don't be over protective of the guy. I don't see him crying about this s***. Yeah, saying Pods is "pressing too much" is sure ripping him. I'm not one of the Brian Anderson lovers on this board, but I think Ozzie has treated him like crap on and off the field now.
  7. It was nice to see Sweeney look like a hitter who could spray the ball all over the field. He's going to get stronger in the next few years, and that will help him avoid breaking bats so often, etc. He looks much, much better than our typical hitting prospect coming up from the minors.
  8. I'm rooting for the Tigers to sweep the Twins. Very nice win, I think we all needed it. We were the better team this series, it's too bad the results didn't reflect that.
  9. I haven't seen anything from Sweeney in the outfield that makes my heart stop. Mackowiak doesn't do anything out there that makes me feel calm. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:41 AM) Amazing what a little pitching will do for ya. Even though the bats have been great, too, it's all about our starters. Weird time for you to state this. I'm not a fan of this statement, as you have to score at least one run to win a game. This series should prove that one thing isn't more important than the other. We had quite a good record during the first half of the year when our offense was great, and the pitching was subpar.
  10. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:38 AM) dude, they aren't going to be happy until he's fired, regardless of whether or not he leads this team to another parade, they want him FIRED. That couldn't be more wrong. I know he's not going to get fired, so I have to root for him to start making better decisions and using his personnel better. The only way that Ozzie isn't managing the Sox for at least the next 3 years is if he says something ignorant in the press again or he quits. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:38 AM) It's been a while since this team shined on national TV in a regular season game Haven't we had a great record on Fox this year?
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) it's ruled as a force out, no hit, on gameday, for what it's worth It probably should be an error on Lowell for bringing the 2nd baseman off the base.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) Since we're winning big tonight and since we seem to rate Ozzie's performance as horses*** every night we lose ... would you detractors say Ozzie did a good to great job tonight?? I have a HUGE problem with Dye being left in this game. That's irresponsible by Ozzie. I love the fact he had a team meeting before this game though. Also, I think we can all say we're happy he shook the line-up up.
  13. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:33 AM) Eh, I don't know about that. We'll be 5 back if we hang on and win against Boston. With the way we've been playing, I don't see anything more than a split against Cleveland. If the Twins sweep, we'd now be 3 back against both Minny and Detroit while heading to Oakland/Anaheim. Plus Detroit has a much easier schedule, even if they are playing poorly. Well, if we only split this wknd, and then go on to struggle on the west coast, we're not going to make the playoffs. Sooner or later, we have to start winning more games than we lose. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:33 AM) If so....weird way to get a first hit. Fielder's choice
  14. That's a bad loss for the Twins. To be going for the sweep, and get that type of start for Silva, that's a game they have to feel like got away.
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) So....is that a single? Good question, I'd have to think so.
  16. Nice catch by Delmon, Twins lose! Please Ozzie, get Dye out of this game.
  17. Chris Stewart definitely crowds the plate. Warning track power = 2 outs
  18. I'm sorry, but there's absolutely no reason for Dye to still be in this game. Please take him out Ozzie!
  19. QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) Delmon Young, nice work. His brother got released by the Tigers today. Ex-Sox players are having very strong years, as Frank, Valentin, Norton, and Durham have looked very strong this season.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:22 AM) Did I hear the Mets have never had a no hitter? I'm pretty sure that's true. A more phenomenal stat is that the Bucs have never had a kickoff return for a TD.
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Rather quiet when we play well... I was going to say that even though Sweeney has no hits, he looks pretty solid at the plate. I thought he hit his last pitch better, but it only went like 340 feet. I really hope he got it off the end of the back like Hawk stated.
  22. QUOTE(jenksd @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) That would have been the most brutal way ever to lose a no-hitter. They would have found a way to give him an error.
  23. QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) A double play Thanks Captain Obvious. Was it something special that made it "rule"?
