Our bullpen sure is consistent at giving up runs lately. Anyone know how many games, out of the last 25 or so, that they've given up runs in?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:22 AM) Is there even a remote chance the Sox can get to Douchenmeyer? Sure...why not

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:22 AM) I wonder if our next manager will play the starters more than 25% of the time. Why would it matter? It's not like games in April count the same as they do now?

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:21 AM) Nah. It just seems that way because you're used to seeing White Sox runners going down the line. We have to run to 100 ft. bases, and the opposition gets 80 ft. bases.

The Sox desperately need to find a way to improve their team speed next year. LF and SS should be the places we look to upgrade at.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:20 AM) The slowest developing double play tandem in baseball folks. Payton just busted his ass down the line, and beat the play. It's amazing to see how much intensity the A's have. They don't have anywhere near the talent that the Sox do, but they actually look like they care tonight.

Yep...we're getting outhustled all around tonight.

Ha...I can't imagine how anyone could ever suggest Frank is selfish.

Maybe it's me, but I hope the Sox are cautious with MacDougal. With someone with such an injury history, I don't trust him coming back from shoulder soreness that quickly.

The A's are outplaying the Sox in every aspect tonight.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:13 AM) Nice job Ozzie. You can quit anyday now. If this team struggles next week, the fans are going to become very vocal and boo a lot. I can't wait to see Ozzie's reaction if that happens. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:13 AM) i think cotts had a career year last seaon. his stuff isn't that great His ERA is still solid enough where I think he could be a very valuable trade chip.

Our bullpen is absolutely pathetic right now. I think we have like 5 players on this team who aren't underachieving right now. I used to say that I would have hated if we traded for someone like S. Torres. Now, S. Torres would look like Dennis Eckersley if he was on the Sox.

If we lose this game 3-2, I'm going to be really pissed at Ozzie for putting Mackowiak in CF and costing this team 2 runs.

Crede has nothing behind his swings. That back injury is definitely effecting his swing.

AJP's batting about .250 since the ASB. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:05 AM) Fathom, this is not meant to be an argument, just a thought. To me, the main reason we are in this situation right now is not because of the inconsistent play of our LF or CF. The main reason is our the disappointment of our STARTING PITCHERS. If all of them pitch like they did last year, we would be leading the division too far in the first half for the Tigers or the Twins to catch up with us. With 16 games left, we are really pressing in trying to catch up with them, and in turn, I believe, that truly messes up our hitting. Let's hope our hitting will turn around QUICKLY. I agree that our starting pitching has underachieved, but that was almost impossible to upgrade at the deadline. As I said numerous times around the time, the best way to improve our pitching was to improve our offense by hopefully giving our pitchers some breathing room. I will say right now that once we have a competent LF next year, people are going to be amazed looking back at just how awful Pods is this season.

Loaiza's having a field day with our hitters, as he knows we'll try to pull every inside pitch that he throws.

Chavez is literally playing PK right down the 3b line.

Jim Thome
I wouldn't be surprised if he has a more serious wrist injury than they say he has.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 04:00 AM) Cotts is just in so Ozzie can see who he can trust later this year... That confidence will do him wonders....when he's trying to pick up girls this offseason.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:59 AM) Yeah, Frank going to Oakland was a good kick in the ass for him, imo. How about the fact the A's play with a swagger/confidence in the 2nd half of the year, and the Sox seem to always go into their swoon? The funny thing is that Thome has always been considered a great 2nd half player.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:59 AM) Thats something you will never see with our team. We never battle with 2 strikes. Its either dong or death with 2 strikes. At least our offense has made games become quick lately.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:57 AM) It is an interesting topic regardless. Yeah, and I don't mean to accuse KW of messing up this team. Personally, I think he improved the team during the offseason. However, some of our luck from last year is gone, and a bigger KW mistake was not improving our LF play at the deadline and his lack of a 4th outfielder who could play LF and CF.

QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:52 AM) You know what guys? Please let me know where I can find the magic that we had in 2005? It just seems that the magic we had last year is gradually fading away! Come on White Sox! Bring back the magic. I hate this cliche, but we just don't have the fire that they had for a long stretch last season. I'm simply stunned by the lack of intensity this team has coming down the stretch.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 03:51 AM) If it's close, then it's a win for Thomas. Keeping him would cost less, require to lose less talent, etc. Someone asked me this question the other day, and I wasn't sure what the answer would be: would the Sox have been better this year if they would have basically kept last year's team in tact?
