  1. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:08 AM) You sure about this total? Is there a 300ft porch in whichever field Charlotte played? EDIT: You're right. I browsed gameday through the boxscore -- Durham's LF wall is 305ft. Yep, it's very short there. Durham's field is fantastic though...great place to watch a game.
  2. QUOTE(PA32R @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:07 AM) I wish. I see no evidence that any of the five starters with the POSSIBLE exception of Contreras have a dominating game in their arm. I can't even remember the last dominating game. Garland a couple of times.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:02 AM) 1 more HR and Sweeney matches his career total entering the season. and it was his 2nd HR on the road!!! From what I was told, Sweeney's homer was an impressive shot to right center. Fields' two homers went a combined 620 feet, FWIW.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:54 AM) Ok, so his numbers have gone up a little bit since I last looked at his player card. Make it a D+. Here's my thinking on Uribe....he's playing a hell of a lot better now than he was earlier in the year. His defense has slumped for the last week or so....it happens. As soon as he gets his release point back on his throws, he'll be someone who actually isn't a "problem". We have a lot more holes to worry about than Uribe. Our infield is excellent overall.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:53 AM) What was wrong with his performance? I think he battled pretty good. On a night where your two big sluggers are out, it would be nice if the starting pitcher can put the team on his back and pitch a masterpiece. I'm sick of our pitchers "battling". How about they go out there and step up and dominate?
  6. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:51 AM) Yes but was Vaz a 5 inning pitcher when Oz wanted us to get him? Is this his history? All I am saying is if he is a five inning guy then KW should demand we switch roles and make McCarthy the starter. A manager has to expect more than 5 innings from a starter especially one who is as highly paid as Vaz. He was known as a pitcher that could give you a lot of innings....but with each inning comes the chance of another implosion by him. For the last few years, he's definitely been "Judy" Vazquez (I hate the whole Judy thing, but it fits well here).
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:50 AM) D. His defense has to be better than this if he's going to hit .220. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 79-319 is .248?
  8. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Interesting comments by Ozzie at the bottom of this article. If he's being honest, maybe Mackowiak will start to get more playing time in LF.
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:44 AM) I don't want to hear one fishing person suggest Garcia's outting was good except for "the wind blown HR." It doesn't matter whether or not mother nature assisted the pitch. I'm tired of the excuses to justify poor performances. If I don't have to hear it I'll be a happy person. One of these days, our starter is going to win the game for the whole team. You know, like an 8 inning, 1 run performance or something like that. Our starting rotation is underachieving so much. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:44 AM) Let's face it. We ain't good enough this year. The magic ain't there. Our pen is spotty. Our D is spotty. Even when are healthy our lineup is all convaluted (sp). It ain't our year. Can we eke out a wild card bid? There's definitely no way to "eke" out a WC bid this year. Whoever wins the AL WC is going to have to play superb ball the rest of the way.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:43 AM) Hopefully 25 and 14 will be back to stare him in the face. PK sounds optimistic that he should be fine for this wknd. I will be ECSTATIC if we win 2 of 3 this wknd.
  11. We can now add Cotts to pitchers that we can't rely on. Or should I say, he continues to be a pitcher we can't rely on.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:11 AM) It's KW's fault more than Ozzie's. If he is a five inning guy then implodes he does not belong on a major league roster. If Oz has him to use, he's got to be able to go 6-7. Managers play the guys on the roster. It ain't his fault Vaz has sucked. Ozzie was one of the main reasons we went after Vazquez, if not the main reason.
  13. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:55 AM) Since we started sucking? And don't worry, I'm solo on the sticking up bro. Almost everyone here hates Vazquez. I clicked on the wrong icon. I was being serious when I said I admire you sticking up for all the Sox players.
  14. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:51 AM) I'm just saying don't assume he just sucked it up though. The same can be said about the D behind him. Pods cost him a run alone and he barely bailed out Uribe's ass from not catching a foulball and Gload wasn't much better. That pitch was not terrible to Teahen eigher. Inside up Teahan just did a good job pulling those hands in and rotating his hips (if you didn't know Teahen has been on a serious tear) If your surprised, I've said it many times I will back anyone in that sox uni.. (except Pollite who is now gone) I still want to know this: since when did our expectations get so low for our guys? This isn't directed towards you at all...I admire you sticking up for Sox players.
  15. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:44 AM) Better than he usually does actually. If 4 earned runs ain't making progress from his usual 6-8 earned a game then we should have been already looking to 07. And I really know you didn't watch the game today, since you don't have a clue how those runs came about. Don't know how those came about? Teahen got a cheap homer cause of the wind, but it was still a towering fly ball on a terrible pitch. Garcia seemed to throw a lot of fastballs tonight, compared to his usual arsenal of sliders/change-ups. I guess I just am not too excited by 6 inning plus, 4 run start. That's not going to win you very many games, even if you're playing the Royals.
  16. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:36 AM) Freddy did pitch well today. Teahen actually was out in frount of that ball, but the wind worked to his advantage. And even that pitch wasn't bad at all. Might have been a different ballgame from that or Pods horrendous D costing us another run. He gave up 5 runs, 4 earned in 6.1 innings. If that's pitching well, then we might as well quit playing the rest of the season. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:35 AM) Good. Let's see what happens. I'm actually thrilled we have this tough stretch coming up (as long as PK/Thome are healthy). This team is going to have to beat the top teams if they want to make the postseason.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) This game was over the minute Freddy decided to light up the gun with his medicore fastball. If a crappy hitting team can light up Freddy what will the Yanks do. Oh wait we already know the answer to that. He's going to be facing the Yanks and Tigers next week at the Cell.....
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:26 AM) Are you serious? You are blaming Ozzie for Vaz's mediocrity/spifftiness? My god. No, we're not blaming Ozzie for all of his struggles. However, he could have been managed much differently this year. His numbers after 75 pitches are amazingly bad.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) Right. No matter if Pujols was on the bag or not he was safe. You can't give an error for looking back the runner too long. And it wasn't like they could give it a fielder's choice, as the pitcher didn't go after the runner on 3rd.
  20. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:01 AM) gosh darn YEAH. Love Utley and I want to see this streak ride for a while. If they take the hit away, the scorer should be killed. Yep, that was a blatant hit. He flat out beat the play out. They gave it a hit again.
  21. Utley with a hit in the 8th inning!
  22. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) Albert Pujols! I don't care if he stands out there 270 feet away with his glove over his head. It's not much different than what we have right now out there.
  23. A legit MLB player in left field that has played the position before.
  24. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:47 AM) This game is... ova. Please don't post this stuff unless it becomes official. For those of us who are no longer watching Comcast, this is the only place for us to get an update.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:39 AM) this must be to make up for the fact that he forgot to pull Freddy before he detonated. Just like he will forget again to take Vazquez out on Saturday when he reaches the sixth. Our bullpen has the lowest amount of innings in the american league, yet we keep trying to get our tired starters into the 8th inning. He let Contreras throw over 120 pitches on Monday. And now we let Fastball Freddy get to pitch to a guy who jacked him the last AB. Can we adopt a rule where we promote Razor Shines for any game started by Vazquez or Garcia?
