  1. Good grief....does this team practice or communicate?
  2. Well, this is just dandy. Lots of examples of the Sox weakness this season on display this inning.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) I have no doubt that if Pablo consistently played LF that he would be lightyears better than POds. Pods is freaking terrible. Adam Dunn is the only guy worse. At least Dunn can throw guys out on the bases.
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:37 AM) When's he gonna be benched for "defensive indifference"? April
  5. And here comes a KC scoring threat. Garcia better start throwing the ball harder. He's throwing in the mid 80s right now.
  6. Meanwhile, Mackowiak and his .400 OBP sits on the bench.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:29 AM) Hawk with another stretch stretch. He truly is worthless on home runs calls. At least that one would have hit the wall if it wouldn't have been caught.
  8. There's Gathright making every catch seem difficult. Someone with his speed should have been camped under that ball.
  9. That was quick....hopefully Hudson won't have the control of his splitter this whole game. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:22 AM) I'm not seeing pitch speed. Quick inning so far. 87 and 84
  10. Wow..filthy! Can we hope for a storm to postpone this game?
  11. Hudson has some pretty nasty stuff.
  12. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Cintron instead of Mackowiak? It makes no sense that Mackowiak isn't playing tonight.
  13. There's a pretty strong storm that's supposed to hit KC in the next hour or two.
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:59 PM) I cringe on almost every ball that is hit to Cintron simply because I know his reputation. You cringe on every ball hit to him, but you'd rather see Ozuna play SS?

    Joe Crede

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) I'd be very happy with that. And just like that, we've hijacked another thread and brought it to wrestling. It brought us success last night. Let's see if The Rock can regain his fastball tonight.

    Joe Crede

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) His only competition for the Gold Glove this year is Mike Lowell, so Crede is basically sitting on a 50/50 chance of winning one this season. It's funny, but if he wins the GG this year, it will be more because of what he's doing on offense than it is defense. Crede had a better defensive last season, in my opinion. Our 3 best all-around players this year have been Dye, Crede, and Konerko. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Mr. Perfect will do. You know I'm calling you that or Curt the reason of the season.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) Rumor in today's Trib is that Aramis Ramirez will use an option in his contract and opt out of the last two years of his deal to test the free agent market after this season. The Angels are definitely waiting to grab Aramis if he becomes a FA.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) What kind of deal is Matthews looking at this offseason? And who is his agent? No one likes GM Jr. more than me, but he's going to make himself far too much money for basically a one year phenom. Some team will give him a lot of money to be their CF for the next 4 years. He would be a nice fit with the Astros, as they need some more speed and Taveras will likely be traded.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) He'd been playing LF with SD but hadn't gotten a lot of playing time. So, tough to say without seeing many of their games. He played a lot of LF with Texas and I thought he was ok. On the issue of Owens, Stewart, Logan ... I'm not sure those guys will be called up, seeing as they'd get little to no playing time here and the White Sox would essentially be sabatoging Charlotte's playoff run by taking three of their better players away. Even if Charlotte gets KO'd in the Int'l League playoffs, by that time it'd be 9/10 or 9/12. That's why I was thinking in terms of veteran outside help, someone who's used to coming off the bench and has a good clubhouse reputation. Ya, I think those are the guys who will definitely get the call after their season is over. Even if it's just for a few weeks, it could give us some pinch running options, etc. I've always been a fan of EY. He still has some good speed, and I was surprised to see the Padres released him. Nothing like releasing a good clubhouse guy for a terrible clubhouse guy (Todd Walker).
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Guillen is becoming known for not wanting a bunch of extra guys sitting around so I don't expect many, if any minor league call ups. Complicating the situation, Charlotte is a virtual lock for the Int'l League playoffs, sitting on a 12.5 game lead in spite of a recent 4 game skid. Their season ends around 9/5, with playoffs extending it further. In other words, they probably won't be adding anyone from Charlotte. There's only one guy from Birmingham who's on the 40 man roster, reliever Edwardo Sierra, and he hasn't had a good year at all. The 40 man sits at 37. They can add a couple of, ahem, rehabbing/injured veterans who've been cut loose from other teams and call them up on 9/1. Name to watch? Eric Young, just released by the Padres. Veteran guy, right handed bat, good pinch hitter and can handle the bat. Great clubhouse presence and plays LF a lot better than Ozuna. I can also see them adding a pitcher, someone who can eat innings in a mop up role. I saw Young was released, and immediately thought of him with the Sox. How is his outfield play these days? I definitely think that we'll see Owens, Stewart, and Logan called up some time this season.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) I'm pretty happy with Uribe this year, minus the defensive miscues he's been having. I think this benching will get his head on straight and we'll see even better D out of him the rest of the year. He's right around .250, which is what I wanted out of him after that terrible start. I think he still has another hot streak in him this year, so I bet he'll finish up with an average possibly in the .260's and about 80 RBI. That's something to be happy with out of the SS position. In the paper, Ozzie said he was concerned because the errors keep happening in innings after he makes an out at the plate. Personally, I don't think he's being lazy at SS. Rather, he's lost his release point on his throws. When he tries to lob it, it ends up sailing. Then, on the plays he has to gun it over to first, it's always in the dirt.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) i don't recall what he did Sunday, but I do remember the others - and they were screwups. But did they turn the game? How many times did rallies die on Anderson's bat? Mack is a significant defensive downgrade from Anderson. Duh. But when one considers offense as well in the positive (where Mack is a full 100 points higher in average and is better on the basepaths), and looks at the whole season, I recall only one game where the big negative difference was Mack's play on something Anderson would have made. And he won at least one game I can recall. Therefore, all things considered, I think Mack's impact on the team over/under Anderson is minimal. Which is exactly what you want from your bench. But how about the argument all year that we've had enough offense from the other 8 players, and we needed a defensive force out there in CF? Trust me, I cringed at Anderson batting for the first few months of the season. However, time and time again, Mackowiak has proven he's not a CF. If Ozzie wanted to get his offense into the game, there's a spot in LF where we're not getting more production that what Mackowiak has given us this year. And FWIW, the first two games I mentioned with Mack saw those plays absolutely impact the final outcome of the game.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) I just don't agree. I doubt more than 1 game was turned significantly due to Mack's presence in CF, and he has won us at least one game I know of. So I don't see the huge impact. Off the top of my head: - Cubs game on Barrett's triple - Tigers game where he let IRod tag up on routine fly - Orioles game from Sunday
