QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) It is freakin strange that after the beginning of this season, I'd feel most comfortable with Jon on the mound right now. I'd still take Contreras, as at least he can get a K once he has 2 strikes.

QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) Not if the A's re-sign him, which is in the realm of possibility There's not a chance in hell he goes back to the A's.

We're getting severely out-managed and out-smarted this whole series.

Ha...I love a corner outfielder playing center field. This inning ought to be fun. Garcia might as well throw offspeed pitches the rest of the game.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:53 PM) Jim Thome is the one guy I'm not gonna fault on the basepaths. He knows he slow as heck, but he f***in sprints everytime. I absolutely agree.....things just are s***ty right now. I'm grateful for the off day again tomorrow.

The lack of hustle by the guys is absolutely embarrassing.

Nice hit by PK....some more awful base running by the Sox.

PK with some great pitches to hit.

Is it me, or has Iguchi fouled off an insane amount of pitches to right field this series?

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) What were they? Basically about how much are pitching is underachieving this year. That they were a 10 last year, and at best, a 5.5-6 this year.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) You can't deny that teams would give up upper echelon prospects for him though, teams like the Mets, Yankees, or Cardinals. I don't think he'd bring back nearly as much as is discussed on here. Scouts aren't stupid....they see the same lack of velocity we do. I'd just as much see Garcia on the DL, and McCarthy in his place. It would give us a better chance to win on the day of that start.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Yeah, that 1-0 shutout in the World Series game clincher wasn't a big deal. Or that clincher in 2005. Nothing special about game 3 of the ALDS Different pitcher this year though. Without the velocity, he might as well have a blank slate for what he's done in the past.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Freddy's a big game pitcher I laugh at anyone who says they'd want him starting a big game. Contreras is far and away the only pitcher we have who can consistently shut down the top teams.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) Yet some people still think that's not enough of a return. Those are people who still think we're going to see the greatest rotation in history come around. I don't care about career averages or trends...all you have to do is watch Garcia pitch, and he's just begging to get crushed in his starts.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) Jeez, that was in the same f***ing spot. Does anyone think Ozzie or someone talks to Freddy about his first inning nonsense? I think that everyone in the organization knows something is going on with Garcia. At what point do you wonder if he was on steroids/HGH in the past?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Our pitching staff is so freaking over-rated right now. They've went all season without performing and therefor they dont' deserve to be mentioned amongst the league's best. Freddy has been better as of late, but he's not excatly been impressive (ERA around 5). Buehrle has been s*** as of late and a low 4's ERA is nothing to brag about. Vazquez has been horrid after a good starter while Garland has made some major progress and Count has been our ace. We have 1 good pitcher at this point and its a shock we are as close to the Tigers as we are. Just look at there rotation and how its produced mixed with a pretty impressive offense. How we are within 4.5 games is beyond me. Thankfully our offense has been ridiculous but I have no problem making a major move that deals one of our underachieving turds for a pitcher thats performing. It's quite simple...unless these pitchers step it up, we're not going to the postseason.

What a f***ing joke. It's time to DL Garcia, and put McCarthy in the rotation.

Hawk/DJ are very pissed off at Garcia right now.

Ha....keep sucking Freddy, it's not like we need you to step up or anything. And for anyone that states it doesn't matter how quick someone's fastball is, that was a golden example.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:20 PM) That turned into be garbage. It sucks that we went from a golden opportunity to score 3 runs to giving the Yankees all the momentum in the world.

I'm getting real annoyed with PK rolling over on pitches. With the infield back, that was the one place he couldn't hit it to. Well....that was pathetic. Cora runs us out of a run.....again!

Cliff Politte DFA'd
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:28 AM) Anyone want to bet that game one next Friday night (when Texas comes to town) that Tracey rights a wrong? Should be interesting. Personally, I'd rather he just have a blank slate when he returns to the team.

Reds/Nationals trade
It didn't take long for the great Gary Majewski to blow up for the Reds already.

Buehrle
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) I'm just wondering if we're seeing the effects from last season. guys throwing all those innings, all those complete games in October. The mileage adds up. One less month off. they could be wearing down. Freddy has lost velocity. Cliff is toast. Buehrle is off. just a thought. I agree, and it makes me appreciate that we capitalized on our opportunity.
