  1. For as bad as Dye looked yesterday, he looks great today.
  2. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) would u trade it for the tigers' staff...i think i might This year....in a heart beat. I watch guys like Bonderman and Verlander, who are improving as the season goes on.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) Even more incredible to me is our pitchers inability to pitch over poor fielding. Our starters have really struggled at getting the double play ball or a big strikeout in order to prevent a big inning.
  4. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) And there is no such thing as a single since everybody gets a free pass to second. Great point
  5. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) We shouldn't be waiting that long, unless we're not planning to win a championship this season. It isn't happening....too many personalities involved to admit this isn't the world's greatest rotation. We're living or dying this year with the 5 starters we have.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) What a shame that Freddy steps his game up today and the defense doesn't back him up. Thanks, Mac. This s*** would have happened regardless of Mackowiak. No way that 89 mph Garcia was going to keep hitting every corner imaginable with his pitches. If this is Garcia stepping up, then he sucks worse than I thought.
  7. I can't wait for one of our underachievers to be traded in the off season.
  8. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) he has every right to be mad, wtf was that? its a damn pop up and no one can f***in catch it???? he just wants to win. 2-1, there u go, thats why he was mad, cuz u knew they would take advantage, instead of one run, its 2 It's called being a good teammate and professional. Mackowiak doesn't throw a hissy-fit every time Garcia gets crushed.
  9. Keep pitching Manny inside fastballs, and Lowell fastballs over the heart of the plate. And for the love of God, keep Mackowiak out of center field.
  10. Pods is just so utterly mediocre.
  11. Well, hopefully we play better tomorrow. It's a Fox game, so AJP will do something special. Just remember everyone....a Sox fan, positive or negative, is better than a f***ing Cubs fan.
  12. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) What did Hawk say about McCarthy's ineffectiveness? Basically that without his changeup, he can't be an effective pitcher. The thing that's worrying me about McCarthy is that all of his pitches are up in the zone. Even in games he does well, he gives up a ton of long fly outs.
  13. McCarthy's back to being a home run machine. Hawk's making some great points about his ineffectiveness.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 03:04 AM) Oh for chrissakes stop it with this. What? Do you know how many times people have said "he did it last year, so why question it"? I thought it was a great point by an unbiased observer.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) Maybe quit baiting him then? You do that way too much too. These game threads are out of control, this guy jphat likes to look at the positive side and he challenges all these negative posts and he gets his s*** handed to him all the time. I don't blame him for getting pissed frankly. Sorry I shouldn't have stuck my nose in, but I have been reading these game threads and ... ahhh forget it. I don't understand all the personal attacks tonight. I go back and forth with jphat most nights, and we try to avoid the personal s***. I know things get more heated when we're losing, but this is ridiculous tonight.
  16. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 03:01 AM) Didn't say it was a trend. As a fan I just don't like seeing a big game come up against a rookie with our ace on the mound and not take advantage of several opportunities against an inexperienced opponent. I can't believe that after the last 180 games or so, anyone would still consider our ace the guy pitching tonight, and not on Sunday.
  17. QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:59 AM) One thing I have noticed with how Ozzie has handled his SP's this season is that he expects them to go very far into the ballgame. He seems determined to get them the win, even if they are faltering at the mound. I don't know if that has anything to do with how they are performing, but it seems like he has overworked his starters in quite a few games when a move to the bullpen would have been a better choice. You should know you're not allowed to question anything Ozzie does this year that he did last season. I couldn't agree more with what you said though.
  18. QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:58 AM) Five more outs. Why do we ALWAYS suck against Boston in the regular season? Well, I'll take 3-0 in the postseason over whatever happens in the regular season. I don't know how anyone could have been overly optimistic going into this series with the pitching match-ups. Thankfully, we were able to win that Orioles series in order to put us in good position in the standings at the break.
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) If you weren't impressed with Lester then you are damn hard to impress. He changed speeds really well and made good inside pitches at the right time. Not taking our hitters off the hook but Lester was good, he knows what he's doing, even with the spotty control. And yes, the strike zone was definitely weird tonite, for both sides. I've just never seen him before, and the way some people built him up, you'd think he'd look like Kazmir up there. He was just wild enough to throw our hitters off, and we couldn't get that big hit. And FWIW, I thought Bedard on Monday was the best performance of the year against us.
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:50 AM) Lester is undefeated this season with a 3.06 ERA and Delcarmen has had ups and downs but a 3.86 ERA overall. Pretty good. I still think it could have been a completely different game if this umpire didn't give Lester the gift on the 3-0 pitch to Dye in the 3rd inning. I wasn't impressed at all with Lester.
  21. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:49 AM) Is anyone at least remotely concerned that one of our top two pitchers now has a 4 ERA (this coupled with 3 other starters who also have 4+ ERAs)? We've got the worst pitching staff of any of the current playoff teams. Can't get too concerned, as there's nothing you or I can do, and I'm confident in saying there's nothing KW and Ozzie are going to do.
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) I'm not trying to stir up s*** with this post, but does anyone actually believe Widger is actually an asset to have on the team anymore? I think he does more harm than good, honestly. He's our union rep.
  23. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) This is probably the most frustrated I have been all season. I am just pulling my hair out this game. I didn't expect much from Buehrle coming into tonight's game. We need a big hit early in the game, but didn't get good ABs in our bases loaded/2 men on situations. I do wish our fans would STFU in their arguing with Tigers fans about not playing quality teams. We haven't played the Red Sox or Yankees yet, while the Tigers have.
  24. Well, no matter what happens this wknd, I'm happy with the first half of the season. Even if we lose every game this series, we'll still have, at the least, a 4 game lead for the playoffs. The Sox got swept last year in the final series of the first half.
  25. QUOTE(Linnwood @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:41 AM) Are there that many Red Sox fans there, or a lot of idiot White Sox "fans"? Cheering for Pods fly out? It's every 10 yr old girl in the crowd happy to see Pods not take a called 3rd strike. For my fellow wrestling fans, Pods is the equivalent of Jeff Hardy.
