QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) Lew Ford has a career 106 OPS+ that's better than Brady Clark (100) Torii Hunter (100) and Aaron Rowand (103). Why the hate for Lew? The guy put up a .827 OPS playing semi-fulltime in '04. Just because the guy is a Twin and his smirk makes you want to smack the s*** out of him doesn't mean he sucks. After seeing the trash we currently have in CF, I can't imagine how anyone wouldn't want Ford on our team. He's not a superstar....but at least his a major league outfielder.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:00 AM) If he gets the ball in quicker, Pudge is out at 2nd. Pudge doesn't go to 2nd base if he sees that Mackowiak is in position to make a strong show. Between Mackowiak and Ozuna, we have two outfielders that make every routine fly ball an adventure. Mackowiak has a problem with his footwork when he's going to catch fly balls.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:50 AM) Seems like Rob isn't getting enough of the blame here. He cost us the game tonight, plain and simple. Thames never should have been up there in the 1st place. I'll say this, if Anderson is in CF on that flyball, Ivan Rodriguez stays at 1st. He catches it and gets it in. No questions asked. But this is not an excuse for Jon's crappy pitching. Please answer me this....where's the 3rd out in the inning before Thames bats then?
-
I'll say this....if Pujols is/was clean, it sucks that he's going to get thrown into this s***. However, the unfortunate thing in this 'roids era is that where there's been smoke, there's fire.

QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) Do you think with Coops constant tutelage he can get that under control ala Matt Thornton? and speaking of Matt where has he been lately? Tigers don't have many lefties, so no real use for Thornton vs them.

ARod's the guy in the best position to challenge the home run records.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:21 AM) About Garland. I went to Tucson on March20. I saw Garland pitch one of the games I saw down there, and he got lit up. I've been to every home game except 2 or 3 this year and have watched just about all of Garland's starts home and away. The thing that's alarming to me is the amount of hard hit balls against him. At least half of the outs he records are hit pretty well. This is about as bad as I have seen him pitch since he put on a White Sox uniform. Well, some people were trying to say that Garland didn't get hard tonight. From about the 3rd inning on, it seemed like every other batter hit the ball 340 feet or longer.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:07 AM) f***. I swear to god if Pujols did anything, I'm done with baseball. I've believed in that f***er since day one, once he started defending Bonds I thought perhaps something was up but I couldn't bring myself to believe it. I swear if he let me down this time I'm not sure I can continue following the sport. Right now, Pujols is only considered "involved" due to his association with the trainer. Baseball has an absolutely clusterf*** on their hands, as the three most prominent home run sluggers of the last 10 years have all been associated with steroids (Sosa, McGwire, Bonds).

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:02 AM) Hell, Ozzie said that Crede will probably start tomorrow. That's very good news

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:57 AM) You're talking about two of the best defensive players in the league. I would say he's referring to one of the best shortstops in the league, and one of the most promising defensive outfielders. I'm not ready to say Anderson's one of the best defensive players in the league just yet.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:54 AM) I have no clue. I can just see him making him the starting CF, but then retract that after having about a full week of Mack in center. It would be a catastrophe. The thing is, outside of about 3 games, Mackowiak's done nothing to deserve playing in CF. One of the biggest arguments about Anderson was his mental mistakes in CF. After Mackowiak's debacles tonight, you can no longer say he's a smart outfielder. I hate Anderson's hitting this year, but I'm finally ready to jump on the bandwagon that we've lost more games because of Mackowiak's defense than we've lost due to Anderson's bad hitting. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) So having Uribe, Anderson and the pitcher batting consecutively is a good idea? We don't match up well vs the NL teams on the road. Luckily, we get the Pirates on the road.
-
QUOTE(BoKnows @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) If Anderson continues to suck it up at the plate and Mack continues to make little league mistakes in the outfield, do you think Kenny prioritizes CF over middle relief? I think it's already prioritized

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:50 AM) Expect to see more losses like today in the near future. Defense is overrated anyway. Brian Anderson is starting tomorrow. That sounds promising. Good. I say give Anderson the rest of this wknd, and if he's still clueless, make a move for next week.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:50 AM) Anderson gets the start tomorrow. Huh?
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:47 AM) Man, do we ever have a problem in CF. That makes me believe KW has to be doing something soon. I mean, it's not just a bad problem, it's horrendous. According to the paper, Ozzie's going to use Mackowiak full-time in CF.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) They mentioned he was being sent down. If it's for another reliever, that's absolutely idiotic.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:39 AM) Mack should have thrown out Pudge easily for one. For two Garland made two awesome pitches to get out of that inning, and it didn't work out. Then he made one bad pitch, and sure it'd be nice if he didn't make that pitch, but I'm not gonna say he pitched a bad game because of that one bad pitch. Pudge would have never went if he saw that Mackowiak was in position. You can't assume an out on a play that wouldn't have happened if Mackowiak had his head in the game (boy, do our center fielders have their heads up their asses this week in the field). I'm not going to criticize Garland for anything but his inability to keep the ball in the park.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:37 AM) Agree. And Garland did it twice after the s***ty defense. The name of the game is to get an out. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:38 AM) ^^ They played like complete s*** tonight, but Tracey did look solid, which is encouraging. If he throws strikes, he has enough stuff to pitch at this level. I have more confidence in him than I do Montero.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:36 AM) He relies on his defense, and his defense elt him down. And making one bad pitch after all of those good pitches through 6 innings isn't going to make me change my mind. He pitched in and really fooled some guys tonight. Had a bad walk that led to a run, and then Polanco had a good piece of hitting for the bomb. But whatever. There are plenty of times to trash Garland for the way he's pitched this year. TOnight was not one of them. Again, I repeat....where was the play that wasn't made that would have gotten him out of the inning. Jphat...you know I was furious with Mackowiak in that inning. However, Garland was unable to get the third out in that inning, and it lost us the game. If he pitches the way he did tonight though, he'll usually have better results.
-
Kudos to whoever predicted that Rogers was going to settle down after the first inning.
-
How can Hawk say Thames should have never come to the plate? Unless I was watching a different game, I didn't see any errors by the Sox that inning.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:32 AM) Exactly, and if Guillen and Infante hit screamers to score those runs that's one thing, but Jon made 2 awesome pitches on both of those guys and it didn't work out. Yes....bloopers happen, it's part of baseball. Garland's not a strike out pitcher though, and he can't keep allowing homers in situations like he did tonight. Bloopers are especially going to happen against a sinker ball pitcher.

Lets get the tying run up to the plate.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:27 AM) Um, no. For one it's a day game, and two, my point is not for you to have a stick so far up your ass to the point you want to get rid of a guy because two teams have drastically inflated his stats. First...the Sunday game is at night. Second, I haven't even looked at Garcia's stats once this season, and that's the truth. I see a pitcher on the mound that has an unexplained dip in velocity, and isn't exactly a Maddux/Rogers/Moyer control pitcher. If Garcia's velocity dropped so much between this year and last year, what are we to expect next year? 82 mph fastball?

QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:25 AM) Damn, does Uribe in Crede's slot in the line up look like a huge hole on the upcomming line up. A.) I hope we get to him. B.) I hope the birth of his kid is inspirational. C.) How do we work Pablo into this game? If Crede goes on the DL, it's Josh Fields time. We can't play Uribe, Cintron, and Iguchi at the same time for 2 weeks or more.
