QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) But as bad as the Sox have treated fans, the Cubs are worse. The are absolutley content with losing. The whole thing with the roof top owners and the extra seats are just a few examples but owning a ticket broker right across the street and selling that broker tickets the fans never had a shot at is reprehensible. I could never root for them as long as they are owned by the Trib. I can't stand the myth that the Cubs ownership is content with losing, as long as they pack the stands. They've had one of the highest payrolls in baseball the last few years. It's not the ownerships fault that Wood has awful mechanics and Prior is a pussy.

If Hawk really was making jokes about Wimpy's abuse, then that's f***ing pathetic. Personally, I think DJ is a great guy, and he's improved dramatically from when he first started.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) That pitch was clearly a ball, dumb f***ing ump deserved it. The funny thing is that I heard from a top minor league baseball source that many minor leaguers are thrilled that this happened. Without the regular minor league umps, there's been all sorts of problems so far this season. They're hoping this will lead to the regular umps returning sooner, rather than later.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) LeeAnn Tweeden? If that is who you are refering to, they broke up a while ago. That Marlins team a couple years ago had Tweeden (Beckett), Misty May (Matt Treanor), and Alyssa Milano (Carl Pavano) as girlfriends....wow. Well, that's too bad

Does Josh Beckett still have the hottest girlfriend in baseball?

QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) In 2003 when the Cubs choked in the NLCS, it was one of the greatest baseball moments in history for me.. If the Cubs hadn't choked, all of Chicago and all the bandwagoners, which is actually the vast majority of Chicago, would have turned this town upside down in Cubbie-loving hysteria... and the Sox would forever be the forgotten stepchild in Chicago. It would have been disastrous for the Sox. I'm so glad we won it first, and I hope we win 10 more before the Cubs even make the playoffs again. I remember feeling sick to my stomach when Kerry Wood homered in Game 7. When Bako flew out to end that game, it was one of the greatest sports moments of my life.

This conversation probably came up due to what was being discussed on M, J, & H during the last week.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) In terms of just a person?? Schilling is probably a bigger dick than Bonds, but Bonds just trumps everybody since he was a future HOF, 500/500 player....AND THEN decided to be a cheating ass when he didn't need to. I think they're two of the biggest assholes in baseball. Both of them think they're larger than the game. At least I'll give Schilling credit for being a good teammate.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:53 AM) f*** the cy young race when it's at the expense of the al central race. I've seen more posts about people rooting for players against the Sox this year, cause they're on their fantasy team, than I saw all of last year. The Cy Young race isn't decided in April. If people really thought that Josh Beckett was going to win it, they're dumber than ESPN.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:21 AM) why all the becket hate? I will ALWAYS have a place in my heart for the 2003 marlins and Beckett is definately towards the top of that list. After having polar opposites views last night, this was exactly the post I made earlier today. Beckett has a place on Fathom's Hall of Fame wall for life.
-
I can't stand the Red Sox....but I love the White Sox. Thus, I'd much rather the Red Sox sweep all the AL Central contenders when they play them.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:59 PM) I agree, but I also think the damage has been done whether a rape occurred or not. This is going to follow them around for the rest of their lives. Well, of course. It happens in any high-profile case. Poor O.J. still has to deal with the perception that he murdered his wife

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) I was just going to post something similar. As i said earlier, this case keeps getting wierder and wierder. I'll make my first and last prediction in this case: There's not a chance in hell these guys are going to be found guilty.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060427/ap_on_...HNlYwMlJVRPUCUl If all three of the men that she accused back then were white, this story is going to get even uglier.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Ben Broussard just hit a grand slam against Josh Beckett in the top of the first on the first damn pitch he saw. As the ball carried on its way to the stands right I actually smiled, I f***ing hate Josh Beckett. After what Beckett did to the Cubs in the NLCS a few years ago, he gets a free pass from me. He's one of the few players on the Red Sox that I can stand.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) For some reason I was giving him the benefit of the doubt before seeing the tape, but he is indeed a major prick. Me too. He's lucky he didn't hurt the umpire.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) So, when the charges were first filed 2 weeks ago, there were a lot of rumors that there was other DNA evidence out there waiting to come back. It's been 2 weeks, and based on current timetables, I can imagine that stuff is probably back by now. It's worth noting, I think, that no one has come forward and said "they did more testing and there's still no DNA evidence implicating my client." A report earlier in the week said the next round of DNA wouldn't come back until mid-May.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) I dont care about last year. This year in particular, I was at the game where he caught Javy and being a former catcher, I thought his game planning was very bland and predictable. Last night he was calling the pitches until seattle had 3 runs. Then you could see him looking over at the dugout. And what was he doing in the Vazquez game was the following.....away, away, away.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) There has to be video of this somewhere. Like I said earlier, there's an in-house video feed. That's the only known footage of the video.
-
BTW...he was suspended last season for a few games for bumping into the umpire. The funny thing in all of this is that Elijah Dukes is going to be turned into the bad guy within the organization.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) This Bozich guy sounds like a tool....... Seems to me like he was trying to cause controversy by setting Buehrle up to say that pitching in St. Louis is his favorite place.
-
From what I've heard today, Delmon didn't "throw" the bat at the ump. I know it's just a matter of semantics, but people who have seen the in-home video feed say he tossed the bat back at the umpire. There's still no excuse to do this.....but throwing the bat sounds a lot worse.

QUOTE(shakes @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 05:12 AM) I do respect Mel, because the league respects him. You can't say that about too many analysts on ESPN. I can't remember which talk radio program it was, but they suggested playing replays of past years drafts on ESPN classic. Just to see the analysis and predictions of their futures. I think that woud be fun to watch. NBA TV does this in the days leading up to the NBA draft, and it's fun to watch. The NFL Network should do something like this.
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) He should be suspended for a calendar year No....that's way to strict. Give him a 20 game suspension....that should be plenty.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) I believe the difference between a AAA and MLB talent wise is razor thin, it's attitude and mental abilities that can make the difference for most players. That's true for 95 pct of players. However, Delmon is just a baseball phenom, and he can continue to be the biggest ass in the world....and he'll still be a MLB superstar. As someone said earlier in this thread....the D Rays have no one but themselves to blame for letting Delmon be on the same team with Dukes. If Delmon was smart, he should have just claimed he was tossing the bat to Upton. Everyone in the world knows that Upton would have just let it go through his legs.
