Nice job by Anderson....thankfully that ball hung up.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 02:20 AM) So what do you think Paul was saying to Ichiro???? Why doesn't our leadoff hitter know how to utilize his speed?
-
Not a promising start.
-
Hopefully we won't see us leave a lot of guys on base early in the game again.
-
Manny with a 3 run homer to take an 8-5 lead in the 8th.
-
This might offend some people....but Willie Harris still sucks.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) You need to look no farther than AJ Pierz of how the media can basically drag a players career through the mud. He has one incident in SF, and he becomes the poster boy for a bad teammate. Never mind the fact with the Twins he was one of the main reasons for their chemistry. It was only because in Chicago he got a second shot (at a very reduced price) that he has been able to some what over come what the media did to him. AJP had one incident? Um, NO. AJP brought upon the prick label because that's how he acted on and off the field.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) I will just be thankful to get away from these cottonball throwers. Radke, Silva, Moyer...when will it end?! SFF Yeah....Radke and Silva really gave us problems. :banghead

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) Which begs to question.. why must those in big shoes be media whores? The talent isn't enough to speak for itself...? It should be. And because it isn't, and such a big deal is made of things not on the field, is how this bs happens. Many of these guys don't give a rats ass about the media but for fear of their dirty laundry getting aired keep the peace by speaking to the pricks. It's all a big public relations game. As you know, the better the public image, the more money they can make with endorsements. Look at how much scrutiny guys like Eddie Murray and Bonds have received in their career because they didn't get along with the media. Considering they're under a daily microscope, I have no clue why some athletes would make things so much harder for themselves.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) There's no "media conspiracy" against Barry. He has nobody to blame but himself. This is probably the best post in this whole thread. Bonds was nothing but a prick to the media his entire career, and that's why so few are supporting him right now.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) I cheer for whoever they play obviously, but I just enjoy watching baseball. My mlb package on cable is awesome for late night west coast games. I love it. I'm sure this makes me a bad fan, but if the Sox lose on a particular day, the frustration is definitely lessened if the Cubs lose also that day (unless they're already eliminated from playoff contention). I know a lot of people say that Sox fans shouldn't care about the Cubs now that we've won it all. While I agree with this to an extent, I also know that I would really hate to have to deal with the pomp and circumstance if the Cubs won the World Series. That would be a big blow to the momentum we've gained.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) AJ is bad throwing out runners but most of the blame should be put on the pitchers, AJ usually has 0 chance. Like I said last night, there's no excuse not to throw at least one pitch-out in that situation.

Undecided Rocket won't pitch until June

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) The NL is so freaking horrendous, and if Clemens comes back Houston has the same exact team they had that made the world series last year. That top 3 at their rotation would be enough to get them through the NL imo. Don't forget they finally got Bagwell out of their lineup, and that makes their offense much better. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) I watch both games when they are on. What is wrong with that? I watch both games when they are on....and cheer like crazy for whoever they're facing.

All I know is this....in an era where a lot of players were likely on the juice, he was the best player I saw.....by far.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) Back on to the subject, can you please find me a quote of Bonds saying something racist, like "I hate white people" or "white people are inferior to blacks" or any of the other million variation of racist statements. If this was my board, I'd be happy to state who said that Bonds is a racist prick, and give examples of what was said. However, I'm not going to post any rumors that I could never prove (even though I have no doubt they're correct).

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) And I've seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears Kittle be a mean SOB when someone asked if the money from whoring his POS benches went to charity... However, what does this have to do with Bonds passing Aaron..? And why is the fall back arguement always the racist comments? I've also heard from 2 CURRENT teammates of his good deeds. And one of them is white. I want to see Bonds break Aaron's record. It's not going to happen due to his injuries though. Would Bonds be more motivated to go for the record if Ruth was 1st, and Aaron was 2nd? Who knows the answer to that, but I have reason to believe he'd be more willing to stick around another year or two if that was the case. I still think he'll try to play in the AL next year, and just DH.

QUOTE(sti3 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Actually he's 6-9 vs. the Sox career, with an only-slightly-above-average ERA of 4.21. Hardly Sox-pwnage. Thank you Frank Thomas

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) I wanted to say something similar, but I thought against it because Kittle was an ex-Sox player and I didnt want to side with Bonds in any issue. But I do agree, its a story that Kittle tells, and it cannot be verified by anyone but Kittle and Bonds. And given the timeframe of the comments, it was an easy target for Kittle and generated tons of buzz for his book. Until I see(or hear) a quote from Bonds himself that says "I hate White People", Im going to attempt to give him some benefit of the doubt. I've heard stories from a former teammate of Bonds which makes the comment to Kittle look polite.

I also think that Thome should get a day off, likely on Wednesday vs the lefty. His timing has been just a bit off the last few games, and it would be good to have him fresh going into the tough Angels series with Garcia and Garland pitching two of those games.

Uribe had no chance to stop the game-winning hit. It was placed perfectly in the hole and soft enough for Pods to have no chance to throw out Bloomquist (it was a good throw by Pods). The biggest defensive play of the game was when Uribe was unable to field Bettancourt's hard single in the 7th. It was a tough play, but a play that good defensive players typically make. If he stops that grounder, it's a whole different ball game. However, our left side of the infield has been sensational on defense this year, so you can't blame them.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 05:30 AM) As far as the pitch, ya it seems like it was a good pitch(I can't watch any games right now), and Brandon just got beat. It's not the last time that'll happen either, just gotta get 'em tomorrow. Yep, our pitchers are all going to lose games like that. I think McCarthy would have bee more effective throwing a few more fastballs tonight. If you start just throwing 77 mph pitches on every batter, that's going to make it a lot easier to adjust to the pitch.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 02:01 AM) A 12th pitcher would be as much a waste of space as Ross. For the 100th time, we need to replace Gload with a righty hitting outfielder. I can't believe we have to play Mackowiak against a lefty 3 weeks into the season.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 05:25 AM) The loss is on our best reliever(up to this point) as well. This game is killing me right now cause I hate losses like this but unfortunately that is baseball and s*** like this happens. If you think of all the stuff that went wrong tonight, it's not a negative loss. The Anderson homer will do nothing but help his confidence, and Cotts/Politte looked well. I'd rather lose the way we did instead of just give up in the 9th like we used to do a few years ago.

Our inability to hold runners/prevent them from stealing really cost us tonight. You can't make it that easy for the team to get the winning run into scoring position.
