Jesus Wood getting hit
And finally the Cubs realized they were facing Ortiz, one of the worst pitchers in baseball. Someone might want to wake up the Nats bullpen.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Fathom you would have a run for that title, i strongly hate the cubs. I agree, cuck does a great job of making me shake my head when he posts. your so angry, everything will be ok. Here's my philosophy regarding the Cubs. Our run to the World Series was so awesome last season. However, I would never want to have to deal with Cubs fans having the joy of a championship, parade, etc. The Sox organization has such momentum right now, and it would be a shame if the Cubs win the championship in the years following our WS title. I'll be very content if the Cubs don't win a World Series for another 100 years.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) It'll be close my ass. They f***in suck. No Lee, no Ramirez, a manager with a huge man-crush on Niefi Perez, a manager who enjoys playing unproductive veterens. I see a sweep easily. No one dislikes the Cubs more than I do......but you have somehow managed to make people angry with you for disliking our city rival. BTW....I think it would be good if the Cubs lose today. I'd rather not have them having their own momentum heading into our wknd series coming off of a 3 game sweep vs the Nats.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) Noooooooooo.. not you 2 fathom??? I don't get it? Am I being heckled for knowing a thing or two about the Cubs system? It's hard not to when there's a column a week about Pie in the paper.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) I guess so. And I can see the Cubs still refusing to call up Pie Why would they call up Pie if Ramirez is hurt? And there's a reason that Pie's not been called up yet....many people feel he's not close to being polished enough to produce at the MLB level.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) So Ramirez is hurt, too? It would be great if he missed our series this wknd.

Mariotti = god
I refuse to believe the notion that Cubs fans might be racist. Over the last 3 years, their whipping boys have been Hawkins, Patterson, and now, Jones.

KW
You don't trade Fields right now. His stock is going nowhere but up right now. If he puts massive numbers up this year, this offseason would be the prime time to trade him if that's what the organization decides.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&a
It's too early to tell how Garland's going to be this season. He hasn't been great this year, but his stuff looked crisp tonight. A lot of his bad pitches have been getting hit hard this year, which didn't happen last year during his great stretch. However, it's better to think short-term, and just be happy that he kept us close enough to win tonight.

Use the hook

Ugh....gotta keep him in the park here.

Once again, 2 fastballs, and then the hook.

One down. I love when Jenks can get two strikes with the fastball, and not have to throw his hook.

Well....that was predictable. How many times Ozzie, how many times?

Ugh....I hate when Jenks doesn't start the inning. When is Ozzie going to learn?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 18, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) Considering how bad this team has been for so long, we really should have seen Delmon Young by now and really what is the reason for having Lugo at SS. Even if Upton is f***ing brutal with the glove he could most definately produce for them at SS. Like I said, my source sees more Durham games than anyone. Upton is amazingly bad with the glove. Delmon Young likely would have come up later in this season, but now they'd look like assholes if they called him up to the majors in the next few months. Tampa's biggest issue was not trading some of their players when they could have gotten good value, and they held out for ridiculous offers.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 18, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) Seems like a trend. Who else would you say they've kept down for too long? They rushed Kazmir through their system.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 18, 2006 -> 01:36 AM) And it's such a powerful, yet not reckless swing. If this was 2 seasons ago, Gomes might have hit 60 homers in a season.

GAME THREAD 5-17-06 SOX vs RAYS
Very good job by Cotts. I'm so impressed with Gomes at the plate. He seems to put a good swing on the ball every AB.
-
GAME THREAD 5-17-06 SOX vs RAYS
Impressive slider by Cotts in that situation. It was so critical to face Gomes without 2 men on base.

GAME THREAD 5-17-06 SOX vs RAYS
AJP won't hit .340 all year, as it's extremely hard for a catcher to maintain strength in his legs throughout the season. What Piazza did during the peak of his career was amazing.

I just would have rather seen Gathright bat again, as he doesn't scare me at all. For some reason, I still get antsy that Cotts will have control issues when he comes in.

I'm stunned that he pulled Garland.
