  1. QUOTE(chisox72 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) And I couldn't agree more about Pods, its almost scary how his play is SOOO closely tied to the success of this team, he needs to keep it up! I honestly don't think it's nearly as big of a factor as it was early in the year last season. This year, we're winning because we're hitting the long ball, and we're getting very good starting pitching.
  2. A great source of mine saw Owens play over the wknd, and he was throroughly unimpressed with him. He's able to watch hundreds of AAA players each year, and he said that Owens looked worse than Willie Harris at the plate. He did think that Sweeney looked to have impressive ability, he just needs to get stronger.
  3. After working with some football teams and agents, I can confidently say that they trust his evaluations of players more than anyone else in the field....and it's not even close. Kiper Jr.'s big book every year is the Bible to football executives.
  4. I feel sorry for any team that would draft Dee Brown over Shannon Brown. In the NBA setting, Shannon Brown fits in so much better.
  5. Excuse me....he worked long and hard for his title. It should read....Mel Kiper Jr., Draft Expert.
  6. Boone didn't retire anyone last night. He faced two batters, and walked both of them.
  7. Great play by Iguchi on a very hard hit ball. Keep it going guys!!
  8. Big outs! Gives Ozzie some more breathing room. Isn't it amazing what happens when you get the ball inside?
  9. Politte's scared of the bat. He's overthrowing everything.
  10. Ok...time to get Cotts and Jenks up in the pen.
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) Man, Politte just gives up deep shots now. He's reminding me of Hermanson now. 96 mph on that heater though.
  12. Cliff's fastball = meat. No reason to not throw a slider with 2 strikes to Batista.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) I agree. I would take whomever can stay healthy but Halladay's last major injury was a bit fluky -- he got drilled in the leg by a line drive. Didn't he already have some arm issues this year that made him miss one start?
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) I agree, especially when you have pitchers in the bullpen begging for some innings. Politte should start the 9th...if he lets 2 guys get on, you bring in Cotts. If the tying run were to get up to the plate, you bring in Jenks.
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) Halladay won a Cy in 2003. Are we forgetting that Contreras has had exactly one good full season? Contreras is great but he really isn't in Halladay's league yet. You know I don't agree with jphat on anything....but I would take Contreras over Roy H. at this moment. Roy has the injury issues, and Contreras is pitching with such confidence.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) I'd let Jose start the ninth but take him out at trouble, although I don't think he'd have any. I'd absolutely pull him. No reason to have him go more than 105 pitches in April with at least a 5 run lead heading into the 9th.
  17. Morneau's just missed a few homers today. Great job Contreras!
  18. Please keep Morneau in the park. This should be the last batter Contreras faces.
  19. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) A combination of both. The Twins offense has not improved much since last season even if they said it did all offseason. Having Stewart and Castillo out really hurts their offense though. Those are two very tough outs.
  20. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) Well then, either the Twins are just really, really bad at the plate, or Contreras is very very good on the mound. Thanks. It's a mixture of both....but Contreras still has above average stuff even when he's not on. Never in a million years would I have thought he could pitch like he has without his forkball working.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) Just got home and turned the game on (actually, right before BA launched his homer) and I have a few questions: 1) How has Jose looked tonight? His numbers look decent, but how he has actually pitched? To show how good Contreras is now, I think it's safe to say he didn't have his best stuff/command today. He struggled at times to throw his fastball where he wanted. His forkball has been erratic also today.
  22. Thome....you have my permission to swing for the fences.
  23. I don't like the way he rounded the bases.
  24. DJ tried his best to jinx Crede into hitting in to a DP.
