  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 8, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) How 'bout no? These are the same people that didn't want the Sox to run away with the division last year. Then, when the gap started to close, they'd post the avatar with the guy choking. If the Sox win the division by 40 games, that would be just dandy with me.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 9, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) The hard part of that is that Brandon made 2 appearances (Sat and Sunday) and we may be pushing him too soon. I think the last thing Ozzie wants to do (and I realize this is being extremely careful) is to either rush Brandon (and have a guy who is going to be counted upon heavily in our pen) or rush Jose (a guy that is being looked upon to be an ace). If Jose is 100% tomorrow, he pitches (I'm talking in terms of his back), anything less and I think the Sox just let him miss two starts and be extra careful. There's no chance McCarthy will start tomorrow. He even stated in the paper that his arm didn't feel great yesterday after the back-to-back performances.
  3. Personally, I think the Sox know that Contreras won't be starting on Wednesday, but they're going to wait until either tomorrow night or Wednesday afternoon to report that the knuckler will get the start. A lot of teams might wait an extra day in order to not make the rookie pitcher have to worry about his start for 2 full days. Rather, he'll get the call tomorrow night, and before he knows it, he'll be on the mound on Wednesday.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 9, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) With this knowledge in mind, you should--at the least--prepare yourself for failure. That's how I typically view our pitching prospects once they've been promoted. Expect failure, hope for success. The concept of 'Instant success' within our organization might as well be a urban legend alongside Bigfoot and the Lochness Monster. Atleast within the last 6-7 years. But really, I'd love for Haegar to succeed. His success, if translated to a major league level, would give tremendous flexibility for Williams concerning our rotation. If Garcia is traded this upcoming offseaon, and Garland the following, a cheap rotation whose substitutes (McCarthy/Haegar) could duplicate the production of departed pitches is smart management. This would be my idea of a best case scenario. Flash...at least this is a Sox prospect that has an excuse for why he doesn't throw over 90 mph.
  5. I thought this guy was telling the truth all along.....and I still think he acted immature.
  6. Neal Cotts for starter!!! Sure, he'd only get thru 5 innings before hitting the 100 pitch mark, but I still think he has a chance down the road.
  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) My choices for this are either: 1. Haeger 2. Broadway That's it. No one else would even be considered. Carrillo
  8. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) I realize you are also one to stir the pot, but, I'll answer. I would rather have Redding. No, Redding doesn't pitch with smoke and mirrors and may not be aesthetically pleasing, but, he has 21 wins against major league ballclubs and we know he isn't going to piss down his leg in front of 30K. Trust me, Redding SUCKS! He's a terrible, terrible pitcher. I've seen him pitch a lot in his career, and I'd rather have Felix Diaz on the mound than him.
  9. At least we'll get to hear Hawk state a thousand times on Wednesday night about how a great power hitter like himself would hit the knuckler.
  10. QUOTE(soxhawks @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) honestly I am pretty pumped to see what this guy can do even if it does mean losing a game or two. Yeah....I remember having the same feeling when we called Scott Ruffcorn up.
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) So what's the scouting report on Haeger? He throws 90?, 95?, what? Another freaking Sox pitching prospect who can't get his fastball into the 90s
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) KW has always said it takes 15 major league pitchers to get thru a season. It wouldn't surprise me to see him pick up another project or two and stash them in Charlotte. If Haeger fails, and Contreras is on the DL for a month or more, McCarthy's going to have to move back into the rotation. Hopefully, Nelson will show he still has the ability to get some righties out, and he can go into the bullpen.
  13. BTW, did the radio reports happen to state anything about structural issues regarding the hip?
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) Nobody in their right mind thought Duque would go a full season without landing on the DL atleast once. That's not a good comparison. I was happier when Duque was on the DL.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) So, let me get this straight. Contreras is going on the 15 day DL and they're calling up Haeger to pitch those games. And it's Contreras' leg? It's a good thing we have an offense this year. It's Jose's hip, which has the ability to be more of an ongoing problem than his leg does.
  16. In all seriousness, we should all be thankful it's Haeger who got promoted, and not Redding.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) I know Cubs fans have to feel pretty good right now. I seriously think they couldn't care less right now. They're too busy planning their gay parade/protest.
  18. So we're pitching Garcia, Haeger, and Garland against the Angels? Thankfully they've been slumping recently, but I'd still be shocked if we win the series.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Its a little disconcerning that the injury appears severe enough to DL him. Hips can be huge problems. Its what led to Britt Burns' demise. He won 15 games in 1985, was traded to NY. Hip problems surfaced in spring training, and he never threw another pitch in the major leagues. The hip injury is concerning, especially with the way Contreras throws across his body now. I would have much rather this be a lower body injury (calf, thigh, etc.) than his hip. There's been a few players recently with massive hip problems (Albert Belle).
  20. At this point, I have no problem if Haeger gets the start. I just hope Contreras doesn't have a serious, lingering injury.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 8, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) Moving up a guy for one start? Or moving your pitchers up one day. This is a baseless gay rumor, and needs to die. Actually, I think everything makes sense. I don't think McCarthy should be sent to the starting rotation now, especially if he says his arm felt sore yesterday.
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 8, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) If there is truth to this rumor, it would seem the Sox are throwing Haeger to the wolves. Wouldnt Redding be a better spot starter, seeing as he actually has MLB experience? Redding is terrible though. At least with Haeger, you have the chance of him being a diamond in the rough at the MLB level. If Contreras is only going to miss a week or so, I have no problem giving Haeger the start.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 8, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) I don't know more than it being a back problem. As far as Dye goes, he's still tight and is going to miss a few more games, unless his swelling goes down relatively quickly. Thus there is validity to this rumor?
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 8, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) Guys, you may want to listen to our radio show. Mario and I's sources said that Contreras was being treated for his back. Spasms?
