It would be fantastic if we can remain in the top 10 over the next 5 years. Last year was the most important season the White Sox will have in our lifetime. Thank you Timo Perez!

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 05:14 AM) Anyone here anything about JD for tomorrows game?? I doubt he'll play. Ozzie usually tries to give players at least one extra day off after an injury. It's too bad, as I don't want to see Ozuna playing RF.

I think the Tigers are going to be much improved this year. Chris Shelton is tearing the cover off of the ball so far. He has 4 homers.

Upton's already been called up by the DRays in previous seasons. And yes, the reason he hasn't been called up is that his defense is pathetic.

QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) yeup, cheat's definitely got this right. And of course, that's what I meant. I don't think anyone would have blamed Ozzie for putting in our best lefty reliever to face the best lefty hitter in the AL Central.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) Didn't Cotts pitch two innings the day before? You know Ozzie. There's no such thing as a 'rookie' with him. If you're on the team, you're gonna be counted on to produce. When is Ozzie supposed to use the guy? Strictly in games in which we're up 5+ runs? Then people would complain that Logan isn't being tested in pressure situations. There's not a single person on this site who would have been upset if Cotts came in and blew the game against Hafner.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) Was there a name of a player in there somewhere? Sammy Sosa? Mack is pretty much one of the top reserve players in the entire league. Wishing for something that doesnt exist is pointless, even in your negative frame of mind. Mackowiak is a career .244 hitter against LHP. Mackowiak is a terrific reserve, but his productive is diminished greatly when he has to start playing against a lot of lefties. There are tons of outfielders in the minors that would fit this bill. Guys like Mike Restovich or D. Mohr would fit in better on this bench than Gload does. I'm sure the Rockies wouldn't mind trading Eli Marrero for some mid-level pitching prospect. Trust me, there's been no one on this site claiming the Sox should get Mackowiak longer than I have. He's one of my favorite players in baseball.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) Up 1 in the 8th inning to a division rival is not the time to be finding out whether Logan is good or if he's trash. There are much much better times to see what Logan has. Win the game first and foremost. I couldn't have said it any better. There was no excuse for that yesterday, especially after the Indians had seen Boone the day before. It's just too bad that a World Series contending team can't have the luxury of Logan getting another year in the minors to refine his location and command.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) please enlighten me to who this fantasy player is that could produce better than Mack? Please, I would love to know. Against lefties? There are plenty of guys stuck at the end of the bench on teams or in AAA ball that could provide another option against LHP. I'm not, by any means, saying I don't want Mackowiak on our bench. Rather, I just don't see the point of having Gload on our current roster.

When the Sox hitting is going bad, it can make any pitching look good (same goes true for all of baseball).

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) So are people seriously saying that they'd want Borchard to have come into the game yesterday instead of Mack? Seriously...Rob Machowiak is the first guy off the bench for almost every outfield position, as he should be, since he's the best backup outfielder on our bench. No, I'd rather have option C, which would have been a righty off the bench who can play the outfield and provide some offense against lefties.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) If we lose tomorrow, this place might explode. So many people are expecting us to go at least 4-2 in our next 6 games. We face some pitchers that we've struggled against in the past. If we were to go 2-4 in the next 6 games, this place is going to be crazy. I honestly think that we just made it look so easy last year, in regards to jumping out to a huge lead. I don't even mind if we lose these early games, as long as we see good stuff by our pitchers and a solid approach by our hitters (as well as rational decisions by our manager).

Why is this issue a surprise to anyone? Iguchi complained last year about having to sit so frequently, as he said he loses his rhythm when it happens.
-
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:15 AM) totally agree on the Gload thing. i believe ozzie and kw just don't like him for some reason. Then why in the hell did we keep him on the roster? He serves no purpose on the team right now, and we could use an extra righty outfielder on the bench.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:25 AM) GMAB. Did anyone happen to mention that using Logan early just so happened to leave Ozzie Neal Cotts to fave Travis Hafner late in the game? Would you rather have seen Logan or Thornton facing Haf in the 9th or 7th? Wait, this is a pretty foolish comment. It was the 8th inning when Hafner was up. In that situation, you go for the damn win! You don't save Cotts to face a lefty who would only bat again in the game if 3 guys reach out of the next 9 batters. If Ozzie manages all year by saving Cotts for end of the game match-ups, we're going to have a billion blown saves by our lefties not named Neal.

Here's where I don't understand Gload being on the roster. We need another righty outfielder. I don't want to see Ozuna playing RF.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) I think and I hope that most people realize that the season is far from over. But seeing Ozzie apparently make a couple managerial mistakes in the third game of the season is a bit unsettling IMO. Three causes for concern so far: - Garcia's velocity - Dye's injury - Our bullpen blew its first opportunity this year to win a close game.
-
It's too bad we have to face Affeldt instead of Joe Mays. Mays is just awful now.
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) You hurt your chances of playing in October by making stupid ass decisions in April too. They're also not won when you have 21 year old rookie ball pitchers facing the best lefthanded batter in the division. That's not even mentioning the 4 better options Ozzie had in that situation. Stop making sense.
-
I'm fairly confident it was a designed bunt. That seems like Ozzie's way of managing with a dinged up Pods.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I can't believe how confident Mota and Wickman were to throw their pitches in the dirt with full-counts. Two key situations if Konerko and Mackowiak simply stood still they would have been on base--and I realize that's a simplistic way to look at it, but both instances were just TERRIBLE pitches. Our hitters were just eager as hell to end it and willing to swing at anything. It's as if they know our hitters are impatient and take advantage of it. Very frustrating to watch. The scouting report on Sox hitters is to throw 3-2 offspeed pitches. It's been that way for a few years now.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) I still like the idea of JT first on the OBP principle...but that all assumes PK can get his head out of the ground within the first month or so of the season. If Ozzie wants to bunt with Iguchi btw, then Thome should be hitting 4th. Balta....I think it's going to take Ozzie some time to get used to the way Thome plays, and how to manage the top of the lineup. Ozzie never managed Frank when he was his dominant self, and get intentionally walked all the time. I also think it's going to take Ozzie a little while to get used to our bullpen. 3 lefties can be a tricky thing to manage. No worries yet.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) Sometimes saying "Hey guys 2005 is over" doesn't get through to people as well as being shown up by the Indians on our home turf. Ding...Ding...Ding I bet the embarassing performance by Garcia yesterday is going to make him put a little more effort into his heater in his next outing.
-
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) I PREDICT.........later this season you will see Thome hit BEHIND Konerko in the lineup, as paulie has a konerko-esk OFF YEAR as he puts too much pressure on himself to justify his contract I actually think that might be a great idea. Thome isn't a ground ball hitter, and that might cut back on the DP that Konerko hits into.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) You suggesting what Ozzie should do is so f***ing hilarious. Thanks for the compliment. Like you say, as long as all of our players are healthy come the postseason, we'll be fine. Disclaimer: In no way am I giving up on this season already. I have no problem going 1-2 in our first series. I just don't like seeing Garcia throw change-ups for fastballs, bullpen's blowing lead, and Pods being ineffective.
