  1. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) Read Eric Byrnes was non-tendered. I'd take him off our bench in a second. Even though he'd actually be a perfect fit, I'm sure he'll get some nice money to be a possible starter for another team.
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) By the way, I'm not the one who invented the "OMIT TIMO" slogan. Other posters have made up nicknames for Sox players as well. Hey, that was me! That's it, I take back the compliment from a few minutes ago.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) How about the loser is banished from Soxtalk forever? I'm already sick of seeing 300 new threads posted per minute. You'd think you'd fly under the radar. Nope. Maybe it's just me, but I think he's a very solid poster who posts interesting information.
  4. Trever Miller was non-tendered, and he's a definite possibility for a LHP relief spot.
  5. I think this is a great deal for the Yanks. They needed a CF badly, and they can afford to give the extra 2 or 3 million.
  6. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:52 AM) Somewhere in Boston, Peter Gammons sits silently staring at his fireplace, a tear running down his face..... He'll write an article soon enough saying how Papelboner is the greatest young pitcher in the game.
  7. Not surprised at all that Damon picked the Yankees. He's not exactly a good guy off the field, from everything I've heard. The NY media will have a field day with his personal life.
  8. BTW, Felix Diaz was non-tendered as well.
  9. How about the part of the article that says the White Sox are currently over budget?
  10. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) Damn, he would have been a great 4th OFer Not really. He was pretty awful last season, and wasn't going to come cheap. With our payroll where it's at, we're going with an in-house option.
  11. So Hendry had all offseason to find the perfect RF, and he locks up J. Jones to a 3 yr deal? He'll be great on days the wind's blowing out, and he'll be worthless when it's blowing in.
  12. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) This trade makes no sense for both sides. Texas trades easily their best starter for a seriously overhyped pitcher in Eaton, a worthless prospect (who used steroids nonetheless) in Sledge and a reliever with a WHIP of 1.4. When did Sledge get busted for roids?
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) I puke at that offer. That would be a terrible deal, imo. C.J. Wilson, outside of his relief performance against the Sox, was the worst pitcher I saw last season.
  14. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) Regardless, I'm done with the Japanese smoke-and-mirrors pitching experiment. Once these guys are seen by the majority of the league, they're toast in the MLB. I think it has more to do with the fact that they throw so many pitches at early ages in the Japanese system, they lose their stuff at a very young age.
  15. I think he's likely heading back to Japan. Even though it's the type of guy that could help our team, his control is just way too shaky to count on out of the pen.
  16. Ozuna knows how to slap the ball and take advantage of his speed. He also knows he's not a home run hitter. Willie never did learn how to take advantage of his speed (which I still claim that he's not as fast as people think he is). As a matter of fact, I'd bet that Ozuna is faster than Willie.
  17. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) I have a feeling this year it will be Vazquez and Garcia. I definitely agree with this statement.
  18. Isn't Eaton the pitcher who has real question marks about his ability to throw off-speed pitches the rest of his career?
  19. Eaton's going to give up a TON of homers in the AL pitching at Texas. I think this deal makes the Dodgers the most likely trade partner for Garland.
  20. Vidro's best days are way, way behind him.
  21. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) They should've kept Willie. He looked good after he came up. He had no place on the team in 2006. We have a guy who can back-up 2nd base. We also have some speed off the bench. What we need is another outfielder, hopefully a righty or switch hitter.
  22. BTW, I'd like to thank Willie Harris for the 8th inning in Game 4 of the WS. I'll always appreciate his career with the Sox for that sequence.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) What do you think will happen with Borchard? I don't want to speak for Jim, but again, after reading KW's quotes all offseason regarding Borchard, I don't think he'll be back.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) KW must have really been turned off by Harris' refusal to play SS in winter ball. He was a big Willie Harris guy for a long while IIRC. All you had to do was read the quotes from a few weeks ago, and you knew he was gone.
