Wow, what a catch. I always thought that the rule was that you need to be able to show the ball to the umpire though.

Jenks looks skinnier than when he first showed up for Spring Training.

Great to see the velocity.

I hope McCarthy and Cotts are getting ready in the pen.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) Over/Under on when Podsednik hits the shelf? It couldn't happen soon enough.

Man, he's just so good. Another tough luck two hopper.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) Pinch hit Cintron plz. No one to put in LF. At this point, you can't sacrifice defense for offense, unless you want to put Mackowiak in LF

It's times like these where having a competent back-up righty outfielder on the bench would be nice.

Pods shouldn't be batting here. He's AMAZING with the bases loaded.

Not going to panic yet, but something bothers me
Trades of one starting pitcher/reliever for another starting pitcher/reliever doesn't happen like that. Why would the Angels do that anyways? Shields is just as important to their team as any starting pitcher. Also, the Sox won't bring back Weaver.

Nothing can be routine it seems like. Great job Mark!

It's a one man offense. This is exactly why we need some f'n production out of our leadoff hitter.

Pods just isn't finding the holes. If that 2 hopper to the first baseman was 5 feet to the left or right, it might have been an infield hit.

You just had to know that Grudz was going to get on before Sweeney. We've seen this situation about a million times over the last 5 years.

Wow, very good throw by Pods....and not a smart move by Graffy.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) our killer lineup's been pretty brutal... Killer lineup? Did I miss something? Did we add Jeffrey Dahmer? That's about the only way someone would proclaim this to be a killer lineup.

How about that? Someone finally decides to pitch in on Buck, instead of laying it on the outside for him to rip to the opposite field. Good job by Buehrle so far.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) BA can't really hit a curveball can he?? He can't hit much of anything against righties right now. He needs to be a lot more aggressive at the plate.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) can't see Oz doing something that drastic, especially this early. I just don't know why everyone's treating Pods like he's a superstar. If he's not ready to hit yet this season, then put his ass on the bench. It's not like he's a game-changer, no matter what his condition is. His 1-19 with no power can easily be replaced right now.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) Not for any extended period of time, no he can't. There's a reason he's a bench player. His career line is something like .270/.335/.400. Nothing is worse than when bench players are overexposed when they have to play more than a few times a week. I remember how much Graffy's bat speed used to slow down after more than 2 or 3 straight starts.

Put Pods 9th, move Iguchi to the leadoff spot, and Uribe to the 2nd spot. I know it's early, but when you have someone swinging the bat as well as Thome is in the 3rd spot, it sucks to keep having an automatic out in the leadoff spot.
-
Sox vs. Kansas City, 4/9/06, Buehrle vs. Elarton
At some point, you have to remove a guy from the leadoff spot who's just not getting the job done.

Pods is as pathetic of a bunter now as he is throwing.
