QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Someone asked Ozzie yesterday whether Anderson would play LF or CF. KW piped right in and said CF. I think his attitude towards Owens playing CF may be a case of him wanting no part of Pods in CF. If Anderson and Owens played at the same time, I'm sure Anderson would be in CF. Did anyone ask KW if they think Pods is a better leadoff hitter than Grady Sizemore? Anyways, it's great to hear they plan on putting Anderson in CF.

It's amazing what has happened to Javy since 'roids was cracked down on in baseball. His decline in numbers the past few years is about as bad as anyone not named Samuel Sosa.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) Grossman over Vick? Wow. I know what DukeNukeEm is talking about now. I hate Vick. I don't even think Grossman is anything special. Vick is the most overrated player in all of sports. And again, I think my record on soxtalk shows that I'm anything but a homer.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) With Rex Grossman at QB we'll never win a Super Bowl. I dont care if we win the division 10 times in a row, I want a CHAMPIONSHIP. Not consistent choking. Consistent choking = Bears defense the last two playoff games. I don't even want to think about how ugly that game vs the Panthers would have been if Orton was at QB.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Ive consistently been a huge Grossman supporter, but please do not hurt your credibility by saying youd rather have Grossman over Young. I said I'd rather have Grossman than Young over the next few seasons. In 5 years, who knows who will be better. I just don't think that Vince Young is even close to being an average starter in the NFL.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396159/gamelogs/2004 1 TD in 3 games v. the following opponents: Minnesota, Green Bay, Detroit. OK, now you can laugh. Those stats are from 2 seasons ago. Who cares about that? I'll guarantee that if Kyle Orton starts for the Bears for a majority of games in the next few seasons, the Bears won't make the playoffs.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Grossman's QB Rating : 68.8 Orton's QB Rating : 59.7 I'll take the guy who doesnt get hurt every f***in year. Duke....you would really rather have Orton than Grossman? The same Orton who all you have to do is put a blitz on, and he'll go down faster than Paris Hilton on a B list celebrity? The same Orton who is a bigger threat to throw the ball to the opposition than he is to his own receiver down the field? The same Orton who not a single player on the team had confidence in? GMAFB....use your eyes!
-
BTW Duke, I went back and reviewed this thread. You said Grossman was about the same as Orton. I don't know how anyone could have watched the Bears games this year, and honestly thought that. Unless you like quarterbacks born in Iowa, I don't think there's a single person on this planet who could objectively say that they're comparable.

Now that the honeymoon period is over for Vince Young, why do scouts think he's the third best QB in this draft now?
-
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) .... I really wish I wasnt a Bears fan.. we easily without a doubt have the dumbest fans ever. On every board they are on the buttend of every dumb fan joke. Considering I'm probably the last person to ever be called a homer, I'm going to call you out on this. All you have to do is use your own f***ing eyes, and you can see that Grossman can be a pretty damn good QB in this league. If both players are healthy and I had to win one game, I would take Grossman over Michael Vick in a heartbeat. Grossman might not make the highlight play, but he's not going to beat his own team like Vick might do.
-
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Oh and about Grossman, he f***in sucks.. thats UNDENIABLE. He's put up horrible statistics, and if 21 points is supposed to be impressive then we have a bigger problem. Whats lacking from the Bears is completely undeniable.. its a good QB. Dump Grossman. NOW Thanks for the laugh. Grossman definitely doesn't suck. As a matter of fact, I'd rather have Grossman as my QB the next 3 years than I would Vince Young. Someone's going to be very disappointing when they draft Vince Young, and they realize he can't throw for s***. And BTW, Jay Cutler is going to be the first QB picked.

Can we please change the title of this to properly spell the last name correctly?

Frank Thomas signs with Oakland Athletics

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:20 AM) Even if Thomas was a great clubhouse guy, it probably would have improved. Isn't Thome one of the best clubhouse guys in the MLB? That's what I've heard. By the way... Good God, I just read the article you posted. I can't believe Frank said that crap, especially about a supposed friend like Thome. A lot of people think Thome isn't one of the best clubhouse guys in the majors, he is the best. Him and Ellis Burks have always been considered two of the best team players. Yeah, I know there's a lot of love for Frank on these boards recently, but his comments today really make me feel like telling Frank... :finger -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:13 AM) You'd think Frank would learn some tact as he ages... :headshake I know there are many insiders that think the change from Thomas to Thome will make the Sox clubhouse infinitely better. -

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Frank always seems to try and get the last word in, and once again, he shows that he just doesn't get it. The part which really makes him look like a tool is when he says he wouldn't have thrown out the first pitch at Game 1. See ya Frank. -
Guys...it's real f***ing simple. Buehrle's not an ace. He's a Hall of Fame CLOSER! Seriously, did I get in a time machine back to September, where this same argument was taking place?

Quick tidbit....Chris Young was going to be ranked 2nd on the list.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) I will go ahead and guess the top 5 minus #1, who I already know. 1.********** 2. Anderson 3. Broadway 4. Liotta 5. Sweeney Fathom, can you tell me if I am close? Not close at all

No one is close to getting the top 5 so far. If you want to know the top 5, just PM me.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:57 AM) seanez has been in pretty much every major league locker room in his career, and was a red sox two years ago. he was effected majorly by pitching in a pitchers park, he'll be the john halama of next season (gone by july). But his best years have been with the Braves and the Padres, from what I can recall. His stuff really rebounded last season, and he had some of the best stuff I saw from a reliever all season (slightly behind Kevin Walker).

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:50 AM) people are annoyed with how i post because i've liked the majority of moves/nonmoves the red sox have made this offseason (minus the seanez signing). if the red sox throw the house at coco crisp, i'll fault the fact that jeremy reed could have been had cheaper, or that dave roberts could have been a stop gap for a year or two while ellsbury grew but i'll still be ridiculed for being bias towards every move the red sox make. A few quick thoughts: - Coco Crisp is a very good player, and he'll help the Red Sox a lot more than people think. - Seanez will be a big contributor for the Red Sox because he's mostly pitched in the NL during his career. He can strikeout a ton of guys, and since most haven't seen his pitches yet, he'll be pretty effective (of course, his chances of staying healthy rival that of Kerry Wood). - MLB scouts think that the Red Sox might be one of the teams most effected by the crackdown on greenies.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) tony asked for my opinion, i gave him a brief explanation. your entitled to read whatever you would like, just avoid this thread next time. Fair enough. I was just trying to sum up why some people are annoyed with your postings on here. However, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I know the best thing that happened to me on this site was when some people voiced their displeasures with my posting style. It taught me to lighten up a bit, and to realize that, for the most part, we're all WHITE Sox fans on this site.
-
How about this: I don't give a flying f*** about the Red Sox. If I wanted to hear someone praise every single move they made, I'd listen to Peter Gammons. Willie Harris is a AAAA player, and unless you consider being able to hit 15 hop grounders to the 2nd baseman as a skill, I don't consider him very talented. I love what he did in the 8th inning of Game 4 of the World Series. I'll always like him because of that. For the rest of his Sox career, he was a pretty big disappointment.
-
Crisp is a very, very good player, and I'm happy he's gone. Also, if they go from Bettancourt to Mota, that would be a downgrade. Mota's a clubhouse cancer, and his stuff has deteriorated in the last few years.

I think Uribe has the chance to be a better 2nd hitter than Iguchi. I really thing the extra focus he'll have to have to take pitches and go the other way will help him greatly.
