  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Casanova is a CF and Burke is a 3B. I'd say defense is about a wash. When it comes down to it Burke >>>>> Casanova. Casanova's an outfielder? I remember him being a full-time catcher his entire career.
  2. QUOTE(Chifananthony @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) I dont understand why people are buying this "its a terrible market for trades" s***. This is a bad excuse. If u believe that Griff is the key, or Huff, or whomever, u do what u have to do to get it done. No excuses!!! If you knew what Tampa was asking for in regards to Huff, you wouldn't feel that way.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Welcome aboard. Let me warn you immediately--you're not going to make friends easily with this post. Williams will (I'm positive) hold blame for any scenario regarding this team which doesn't involve, at the least, an ALCS appearance. Best record in baseball at midseason, Williams failed to upgrade our offense. Excuses ranged from "Two to Tango" Philosophy (overzelous sellers asking too much) to "Lack of Moves" philosophy (no one else did anything!). Both are wrong and shouldn't apply to a team which put itself in a tremendous opportunity to only build on it's success and upgrade it's suspect offense. Point which irritates regarding Williams is he's been more than willing to overpay for midseason trades in the past when our team was 7 games out of first. But when we're 15 games up on the second place team and almost guaranteed a playoff roster he does absolutely s***. Give up prospects if necessary; offer to pay the remainder of a salary--future success isn't guaranteed with any team. This may be our window to contend for a World Series. Tigers and Indians can no longer be expected to lay down for us every year. Concern winning now--because we may not be in a position like we are now for another 5 years.
  4. If we're counting on our 3rd string catcher, we're in trouble. We should call up the best defensive catcher possible, because the only way the 3rd stringer would get in is off of a defensive substitution.
  5. KW did a great job fielding a team that could compete. My biggest problem is that he seemed to get fixated on two players, Huff and Griffey Jr., who were near impossible gets.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) Other than a few publications that said KW was interested, can you find anywhere that it says he cleared waivers. I seriously can't. I heard he was interested from quite a few places, and not just Chicago reporters. I'll trust Paul White knows who was available and who wasn't.
  7. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) jamie burke is out of options iirc. so if hes placed on the 40 man he has togo through waivers again if and when they need the roster spot. so if cassenova is coming up its because hes got options left How could we ever lose the rights to Jamie Burke? I hope our organization would be able to recover from that loss.
  8. 2-2 in the 4th inning. The Indians are playing some sensational defense. They sure seem like they're having a lot of fun on the field.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) Ibanez never cleared waivers. At least he wasn't on any list of players that had cleared. Yes, he had cleared waivers. That's why there were the rumors that KW was interested.
  10. Ray Durham was a more valuable player than Todd Walker is. Why can't we just offer Adkins for Walker?
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) I'm not happy with just getting there. With the way he started this year, just getting there and getting beat before we even realize the playoffs started isn't satisfactory. All along, I've said I just want to make the playoffs. I NEVER thought this team was good enough to win the World Series. I'll consider it a successful season if we make the playoffs.
  12. I just want to know how KW can sit in his office and think "wow, the current make-up of this team has what it takes to make a run in the playoffs"? I know he's tried hard to get some superstars....but why not add a few solid MLB players (like Todd Walker, Ibanez, etc.) to try and boost the overall offense?
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) 4 hours and counting to disappointment. Hasn't it been more like 31 days and 20 hours of disappointment? I thought people on here told us not to worry, KW would make some waiver trades to sure up our team?
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Half those guys don't deserve it. Casanova over Burke, please....I'm sure Jamie hasn't forgotten how to catch. I agree. I really don't know what is going on with this organization right now....but I have NO faith in them to make the proper decisions right now.
  15. Just wait until we hear from KW that calling up these players is the boost that this team needs.
  16. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) hey man- when we have been playing the way we've been playing- you think crazy scenarios like this. Oh, I know. I just think a lot of people recently here thought it was completely impossible for this team to do anything worse than .500. All I want is for this team to make the playoffs....and if that means for the Indians and Twins to lose every game they play the rest of the way, then that's fine w/me.
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Fair enough. Don't forget that he might be able to tryout for the Bears QB job while he's in town, solidifying his savior status. I only suggested they might offer a spark. And that this team desperately needs a spark. Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing LTP pinch hitting for Tmo or Willie or Blum late in a game when the Sox need a long ball. Maybe that's delusional. If there's a righty pitcher, Timo won't get pinched hit for, no matter who's on the bench.
  18. No offense GreatScott, but I'll be a happy man if I never hear another ".500 is all they need" statement. Good post though, I appreciate the research you put in.
  19. Tigers score 2....and the Indians come right back to tie the game in the first.
  20. So there has been nothing about this trade since before the Sox game? Did Mr. Zero strike again?
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) And so should Ozzie. More Ozzie than KW if you ask me. However, I'm sure neither of them would be fired.
  22. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) So you are going on record saying you don't think the Sox are gonna win the division? I DONT! However, I'm not going to bet on it. I'm not hedging my love for the Sox for money. I've never changed my opinion this year that the Sox were playing way over their heads to start the year, and that things would come crumbling down due to a poor offense, overachieving pitching, and awful managing. Now, it doesn't mean that I won't root like hell for them to win every game they play the rest of the season.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) yeah, there is exactly 0 percent chance that we are getting Walker. There it has been said, lock the thread. Because it is not happening. Why's that, just pure pessimism that we'll actually make a move and that Mr. Zero would be right?
  24. If anyone has an update on the situation with Walker, please post it here.
