QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) Its not like our top 3 rocked the last 3 games. It may help a lot to give them some rest. This is also why we keep a 12 man staff. Brandon could work well 2/3 times and our staff can pick up the rest. Yep, and the time before, our big 3 were dominating.

We owe it to our team to pitch one of the core 5 starters in the games against the Twins and Indians.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:04 AM) He pitches without balls? 'Cause he had a bad start against Texas, he isn't gutsy? This year, he has bad ERA's against Boston, Texas, Toronto, and Arizona. Does that make him not gutsy? Of all years to complain about Garland, this is not the year. He was amazing in the first half of the year, and he's been solid in the 2nd half of the year. I'm sure a lot of teams would be happy to take this testicle-free pitcher off of our hands.

Buehrle's an ace no matter what attribute you judge....besides pitch speed. If that's the case, you can have Kerry Wood and his 10 million dollar contract. The only complaint you'll get about Buehrle from some of us is he's struggled against the tougher competition. However, that subject has been beaten to death, so there's no reason to bring it up again.

QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) He does pitch without balls! How is that wrong? Garland is not a gutsy pitcher! Are you happy, is that politically correct and sensitive enough for you? This is pathetic. Dont be so damn sensitive. Hey, we're not the ones making the rules. However, the people who make the rules have gone out of their way to ask us to clean this site up. If you don't like the rules, then I'm sure the ESPN message boards would be great.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) you guys acting like cubs fans. Well, we were discussing trading Contreras all week in the trade winds in regards to offseason transactions.

QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) One great outting and suddenly Jose is gone and BMac is guaranteed a spot in next years rotation? First, Orlando should be gone instead of Jose, and second, why dont we watch to see if BMac can keep this up? You guys sound like Cubs fans. Wow, simply wow. It's called baseball economics. Nothing like having a starting rotation that is going to make about 35-40 million dollars when your payroll is a little above average. That's a recipe to have a cheap offense.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) No, but he needs to be in the rotation next year. You can't have every single guy in your rotation making $5 million plus. If you can get McCarthy to be a good #4 starter next year (with potential to be a lot better), then that's huge. Hell, I'm sure Oakland is extremely happy that they're winning with all the young guys -- that group is going to be together for at least three years... I'm very, very, very confident that we'll trade Contreras. Along with Marte, they'll be our two chips we use to try and get a corner infielder. And yes, McCarthy should be in the rotation next year. Even if he went 2-10 tonight, I would have said that's in our best interest.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) This is the Brandon Mccarthy we're going to be seeing next year and for years after that. Brandon for whatever reason didn't throw his change at all in his first few stints, now he's using it and it's just a very good pitch. Brandon has one hell of a curve, a very solid change and a good fastball, not to mention he throws strikes and knows how to pitch. He is going to be a good one. Great f'n job Brandon From my viewpoint, his change-up was more of his out pitch tonight than his curveball was. That was great to see.

Great job McCarthy. Now, who's going to start the thread asking how many Cy Youngs can he win in your best B. Musberger voice?

I feel sorry for Brewers fans that had to deal with Pods in CF for the whole season last year.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) I wasnt aware that this game was over. This game is over. I'm the last person to ever say something like that. However, if we lose tonight, I will ban myself from this site forever.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) I don't know how to judge today. I'm happy we won. But we lost one in the L column. But we also lost one in the magic number column. I've questioned how to look at it (so long, of course, as we pull out tonight's game). Right now, we just have to win games. This should definitely satisfy all the .500 prognosticators though. Considering we lost with Buehrle and Garland, I think the team gained a lot of confidence with McCarthy tonight. What happened in the 2nd game of this double header is what needed to be done.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) with the twins gaining 1/2 game Ah yes, I've stopped worrying about them. In order for them to get back in the race, they're going to have to win 4 or 5 out of 6 vs the Indians. That would really help us out.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) If anyone cares, Cleveland got rained out, and Minnesota is about to win. So we're right back where we were at this time last night.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) UVa Very nice. I almost attended there.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) Ga Tech sucks too. I've got to say that as an ACC alum though. What school, if you don't mind saying?
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) actually fathom i knwo that they were floating the idea of trading teixeira around a little bit if they cant sign him long term, especially because they have adrian gonzalez behind him. it would probably cost more pitching, specifically bmac, but tehy could if they offered up young gio and more pitching Yeah, I remember hearing those rumors. I highly doubt the Rangers will let another star go though. Soriano is much more likely to be dealt.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) Absolutely f***ing solid start for McCarthy. He ate up the innings and held them scoreless. That is HUGE. Jenks should come in for the 8th, and Marte for the 9th. Might as well take McCarthy out now, and let him keep his confidence where it is now.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) His numbers aren't that much better than Paul's surprisingly, and thats in a much, much better lineup in a better hitter's park. Great defensive player, switch hitter, tremendous attitude, and just about to reach his peak. He's also from Ga Tech, so that's a big bonus for me.

QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) No, thats like cheating. Whats the fun in rooting for a team thats just going to buy whatever it needs? I like rooting for the Sox. Homegrown players, some trades and a few FAs. Jeter, Williams and Rivera are the only Yankees to be with the Yanks before stardom. For the Sox, ARow, PK, Crede, Thomas, Buehrle, Garland, Jenks, McCarthy, Marte and Cotts all came to prominence with us. Some of them were with other organizations, but they never did anything before coming here. We had to take risks on them. The Yanks never do that. Yankees don't do that, but I've heard some people complain that this year's Sox team is just a collection of free agents and traded players. As ridiculous as that is, it's the type of attitude that a lot of people have when it comes to baseballl.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) Uh. no. I know, I was absolutely joking. A man can dream though, can't he?
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:33 AM) ive been in and out of the game, what has impressed me most has been the location on the express I think what's impressed me most is his presence. He doesn't look like a skinny kid who's one pitch away from giving up a 450 foot homer today. Instead, he's been in and out, and up and down, with his pitches, and he's been able to get away with some high change-ups by throwing them in the right counts.
-
Can we trade Young, Sweeney, and Gio for Teixeira? I absolutely love his overall game.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) great breaking ball tonight, every fastball is on the black, havent seen much of the change Edit: or not as hawk says he has been using the change lol I must be watching a different game, because he's throwing that change-up a ton. He's kept the Rangers hitters off-balanced all night.
