  1. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) I know he's going to be on there. But one can only dream. That is IF we even get to the postseason. You and I share a common belief about things right now. This team has to make the playoffs before any postseason roster moves should be even considered. Of course, some of us have been saying this for 2 months now. Lets just win!!!
  2. I got blasted for suggesting Frank was a selfish hitter this season. We need an offensive upgrade for next year, but no way can you count on Thomas to ever recover from his injury to help you on a consistent basis.
  3. You have to be nuts to think Ozzie will leave Duque off the postseason roster (if he doesn't blow our chance to make it before then).
  4. The first of many articles over the next few months that will suggest PK is going to one team or another.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) and I think that is a huge mistake. He has been the most solid starter in the second half. Why would you trade away your best pitcher lately? Because his value will be sky high, and we need to be able to acquire some offensive help without going into a weak FA market. I'm not saying I want to trade Jose, but I think it's the best way for the Sox to acquire a major offensive bat.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) so we should pay for a 6th starter? Most people on here know how I feel. I think Contreras will get traded in the offseason.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Duque is done for the season. BMAC has proven he is a better pitcher, and El Duque hasnt done s*** in the post season since 2000. He is done, and gone after this year. Washed up torn shoulders do not a good pitcher make. BMAC is in there, and he will stay in the rotation until the end of the month. Where's Duque going? No team will trade him for him and his contract.
  8. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) Ya I was preparing my rant, but then I figured.."Surely Qwert is being sarcastic.." I went back and read some of his previous posts, and I'm sure he was being sarcastic.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 06:38 AM) Maybe because it would be hard to find someone that is a better in game manager? Bet you never though of that one, eh? I really hope that's sarcasm. I have a feeling it is.
  10. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 06:27 AM) Enough of the bulls*** Ozzie. How about we worry less about how Duque's 'feelings' and more about the AL Central title....you know, the one that we currently are pissing away to a better Cleveland team. Duque has been scrap for a while now, and BMac gives us a BETTER OPPORTUNITY to win the game. We don't need a manager to contribute to the chokejob right now Oz, make the right decision based on the TEAM needs. Jesus man... Well said. One of the many reasons that if the Titantic sinks, the captain of the ship needs to go down with it. If the Sox fail to make the playoffs this season, I don't know how anyone could want Ozzie back.
  11. QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 05:12 AM) Frank loves stats and loves money. I say an incentive-laden contract would be a better option than adios. I am sure 75% of the white sox fan base would agree with me. No offense rangercal, but that's probably the same 75 pct that never wanted to see Ordonez leave. Sometimes, a team needs to get a clean break from a player. Frank has been a terrific player for the White Sox, but we need a DH next season that we can count on to likely be healthy the whole season. And please no Carl Everett!
  12. Neither Small nor McCarthy have proven they can be a successful AL starter over the long haul. On the same note, Duque has proven he's a below average starter recently. I would take McCarthy over Small if I had the choice right now...and would take Small over Duque.
  13. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:23 AM) Lackey's been lights out since the break. I was hoping the Sox would score 2, maybe 3, and get a sensational performance from the duke. :headshake I thought we had a lot of good pitches to hit from Lackey, but just couldn't get that big hit to maintain the rally. Also, we were terrible at reaching base on a full count. Too many times, we got to a 3-2 count, and then weakly grounded out on a meatball fastball.
  14. You want to create a terrible clubhouse atmosphere? Have Frank's salary determined by how often Ozzie puts him in the lineup. Considering that Frank can no longer be trusted to stay healthy from one game to the next, you're just asking for turmoil with that type of deal. BTW, I do like the creative approach though. I wouldn't mind taking a chance or two on a contract in the next few years to try and get a superstar here.
  15. I love Frank, and everything he's done for the Sox. However, it's likely in the best interest of the Sox to give him his 3.5 million, give him his statue, and say adios.
  16. Wow, all I was saying is that if I had to choose between Duque and Small right now, I'd choose Small for the Sox. If we're going to proclaim McCarthy to be Cy McCarthy, then Small deserves some acclaim also. Maybe I got into the Small/Duque argument late, so I'm not sure if I chimed in on the wrong topic.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:15 AM) You really know nothing about baseball if you're calling for Dusty Baker to replace Guillen. Same with Brenly, and several others on that list. Yeah, Guillen is a bad in-game manager, but guys like Dusty, Brenly, and McClendon are awful all around managers. I'd take Steve Stone as my manager though, and this is coming from someone who hates the Cubs.
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) If Aaron Small was on the Sox, you'd trott out the same line that you use for guys like Bajenaru. What the hell are you talking about? Small has proven that he can be a successful MLB starter in the AL so far this season. All I've ever said about Baj is that he obviously wasn't highly regarded within the organization, and that I could understand why Adkins was on the team above him because Ozzie liked him from the year before, and Adkins was stretched out to go longer than Baj.
  19. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) What matters more right now, respecting el duque or winning games? Isn't this similar to when Ozzie said that we didn't need to make a trade at the deadline, we were set with what we had because we had the best record in baseball?
  20. I'll take Aaron Small over Duque in a heartbeat.
  21. I'll be happy if I don't have to hear another reference to a past accomplishment of Duque for the rest of this season. Luis Sojo had some clutch moments in the playoffs....does that mean he deserves to keep playing near the end of the season even if it's obvious his skills have deteriorated and isn't the best option for the team?

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) OK, fathom let me call you out: who is the manager you describe? They all f*** up. They all play percentages. We're not getting good pitching and we're banged up. So we're not winning like we did earlier. We've never really hit the ball all year. It ain't Oz's fault. Of course all managers are going to make mistakes. Even yours truly makes some mistakes We're banged up? Did I miss something? Besides Frank being out, we're pretty damn healthy compared to most teams. To say none of this is Ozzie's fault is just as wrong as someone say it's all Ozzie's fault. I don't watch other games as closely as I do the Sox, so I can't comment on manager's style. However, I don't see many other managers leave their starting pitchers out in the game so long, even when everyone in the park knows they're done for that day. Also, I don't see many other managers not letting their closer start the 9th.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Well, yeah...and it's also possible that team loses every single game, but not probable nor logical... I know, it was just the point of what I was trying to say. There's no written rule that a team is guaranteed to win 50 pct of their games or that a team can't maintain a hot streak for longer than a month. Some of the posters on here would have made you believe that those are in the MLB handbook.

QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) I never thought that sox fans could be pussies... then I joined this forum. =/ Why be sox fans if you have no trust in them? Here's the funny thing....it doesn't matter what the f*** we say, we have absolutely no impact on the outcome of a game/season. It's the beauty of message boards.
