With it getting hotter outside, the ball will be flying out of Wrigley most games. I actually think he has a great shot at the triple crown right now. Don't forget that the Cardinals will likely clinch the division early, and Pujols will get a lot of rest (he's out today with a shoulder strain).

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Angelos did not want a arm with prior injury history! SI had a good article on it! Which would mean that Schmidt would be out of the question also. So, I guess I shouldn't order my Kerry Wood Orioles jersey?
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) The same Furcal that plays for the division leading Atlanta Braves? Why does everyone think that every player is openly being shopped on the market?
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) WIth Frank going down again we need a hitter more than a SP.. BUrnett deal looks nice and all but we should be focused on getting Frucal in a Sox UNI If we're going to trade one of our top prospects, like McCarthy, I'd much rather it be for someone we know will be back next season. Burnett and Furcal are likely to be two of the most coveted FA this offseason.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) I'd just like to tell you that he's 5-2 in his last 7 starts with an ERA around 2.7 or something like that. He's gotten his stuff back, minus a little velocity. He's better than Burnett, Contreras, and Duque. You probably disagree, but I don't care. Nobody's changing my mind on this subject. I couldn't agree with you more. If I had one game to win, and had these 4 pitchers to choose from, I would take Schmidt 100 pct of the time.
-
Free Ross Gload! Wouldn't mind seeing Everett in RF, Gload at 1b, and PK at DH. Especially considering how hot it will be, it would be nice to give PK a rest from playing in the field.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) I'd much rather have Schmidt, and I mean much. I'll take Burnett, just as long as it doesn't cost too much. This matters because I'm now the GM, of course. Completely agree with you. It's not like Schmidt would cost a lot more than AJB next season. There aren't a lot of pitchers on the market this offseason that will get a lot of money. AJB will be the prime candidate, and we already have 3 starting pitchers that will require a lot of money next season. I'd rather use the money to resign Garland, and round out our roster.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) Yeah, you're probably right. I'd watch if they had a fire sale, but man will I be pissed if we get ripped off for Burnett. He's hardly a sure thing, and I wouldn't weaken our starting pitching, bullpen, and give up a great prospect for him. KW's not that big of an ass...I hope I hear you. I'm 100 pct serious when I stated the other day that I wished KW would just get the f*** away from talking to the Marlins.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) I'd give them BMac, Young and Baj and tell them to STFU and take it or be stuck with someone who's leaving at the end of the year. I wouldn't give up BMac and Young for someone that we probably wouldn't resign. Who are we kidding, we're not the Yankees where we can give up our best hitting and pitching prospects for someone who has never been an ace.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) If that trade happened, I would probably watch half the games the rest of the year at most. That's just way too s***ty of a trade. Hey buddy, I'll call your bluff. You'd be watching every second of every game possible!
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) I really don't like a deal that sends Cotts/Politte/Marte/Jenks to Florida... Not one bit. Not at all. Especially considering it's not like AJB is a certified ace who we could just stick him in the rotation, and know he's going to help our team.
-
KW.....please step away from Florida! Why couldn't the Orioles just close the deal for AJB?
-
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Twins lose Game 1 2-1... Sean Douglass impressive again for Detroit!! Not only that, but the game winning homer was hit in the 7th by Curtis Granderson. Granderson went to TF South and to UIC.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) If the prospects aren't 2 top guys then no, it's really not that high a price. If people think that's a lot to give up for Randa, they might want to cover their eyes when they read what we'd have to give up for Burnett or Schmidt.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) Don't matter, 2 prospects for Randa is pretty high. One of them has to be at least a mid level guy. What, were you expecting to get a 3rd baseman who's a very solid MLB hitter for nothing?
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) For all the people who didnt believe me and said Randa's price would be too high, f*** you, I was right! Lets wait to see who the prospects are first.
-
BTW, Nevin is in the starting line-up for the Padres today. He might not waive his no-trade clause. It's not close to being a done deal.
-
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) Padres are moving big time. Im telling you, they are the darkhorse in the NL in the playoffs. Peavy is scary and Hoffman is a terrific closer. Watch out. Padres have looked like crap lately. I don't see how getting Ponson will help them. Randa vs Nevin isn't exactly a big offensive upgrade.
-
Randa to the Padres for 2 minor leaguers. With the way Crede has been playing lately, I doubt we had any interest.
-
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:01 PM) Joe Randa is Nevin's replacement.. ESPN radio just announced that deal... Damn you! Got me by a few seconds.
-
Padres just traded for Randa. Gave up 2 minor leaguers.
-
BTW, this isn't a done deal. Nevin has a no-trade clause, and the Orioles are on the list of teams he doesn't want to get traded to.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) well i'm guessing palmeiro will move to DH. who was their DH before? Gibbons?
-
QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) yea that would be KILLER if we got Burnett and Mcarthey took off to FL It would be better if we got AJB, and kept McCarthy. Actually, I'm all for not acquiring AJB at all. I still have my doubts that we'll be able to resign him if we get him.
-
Yeah, Cora is not on the level of Waving Wendall or Dale Sveum.
