GAME THREAD 7-8-2005 SOX vs A's
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Replace Timo, Harris, and Walker with Duque, Marte, and Gload? I could live with that. Timo is 3-3 tonight. That means he has just as much job secruity as Frank or PK. Jenks will be the person who is sent down.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) How slow is Konerko going to be 5 years from now? In no way is this in reaction to tonight, but I hope he's slow for another organization. Pk doesn't strike me as someone that's going to improve....especially as he gets older from here. I like PK, but in the Sox best interest, it's better that he goes elsewhere and signs a 3 yr/33 mil contract.

What a joke. How many times has PK grounded out deep in the hole the last week? Maybe he should stop trying to pull every single pitch.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) Willie makes his 4th out today with a man on 2nd...and the crowd deservedly boos him. Willie...you're making me want to keep Timo on the team. This might be Willie's last start with the Sox. It's very possible they'll call up Gload after the ASB.

We have two back-ups on the bench, yet we let our worst hitter bat with the tying run at the dish. Someone explain that to me. At least Everett did his job!

I don't understand why Willie is batting. It's not like he can hit a homer. Awful managing by Ozzie right there.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) wtf another s***ty call by the ump he was f***ing safe He was out, as was Timo. We got a call in the first inning, when Pods was called safe, but was out.

GAME THREAD 7-8-2005 SOX vs A's
Wow, that was really close. Good call by the ump though. Willie should not be batting!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) If there's a man on 2nd...we better pinch hit the Gooch. Please God. If someone gets hurt we still have Pablo as a backup. If we have one on, one out....you use Thomas. Any situation where we can bring him up, with the tying run on base or at the plate, you have to go with.

QUOTE(kman @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) i wuldnt go that far yet. I would have taken the 2004 season with Foulke instead of Koch. Who knows what type of season we might have had. In terms of what both teams have now, there's no question we won that deal. It would be interesting to know who the A's drafted with the pick they got for losing Foulke to FA.

Willie better not be batting this inning!

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) You have to wonder how many times an offense can miss hanging sliders. Sarloss has thrown several each inning, and yet no one can do anything with these pitches. I better not hear one player claim "Oakland just has our number." These weak offensive performances against scrub pitchers need to stop. The middle of our order will always struggle against sinker ball pitchers. Especially considering our lack of speed, it's just a recipe for a lot of pulled choppers to the pull side. With that in mind, one of the most surprising things to me this season is that we're 2-0 against the great sinker of Jake Westbrook (yes, one game was 1-0).

KC has made it 5-4. Good time for Sweeney to have returned.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Even when he's 3-3 he's bad. LOL he finds new ways to make outs. The thing is, in a way, it's funny that you knew Timo was going to be out once he started to go for 2nd. It's one of those things where there's that player who always seems to just be able to piss you off, no matter what they do. Congrats to Timo though for being 3-3 tonight. At least he's making solid contact.

We're not even hitting the ball hard now. We let Saarloos off the hook (or should I say, Willie did), and he's mowing us down now.
-
GAME THREAD 7-8-2005 SOX vs A's
Haha, only Timo can get people upset in a game where he's 3-3. Timo should not have been going to 2nd base there, Swisher's arm is too good, and Perez's wheels are real poor.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:01 AM) I don't say it to be mean or anything. You seem like a nice guy, but look at the worst possible side and scenario of everything. Fair enough. Like I said, we're all Sox fans, so I don't have a problem with anyone on this board.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:01 AM) That run scored stat happens because we have guys who get PRODUCTIVE OUTS. YOU HERE THAT SECOND BASEMAN??? PRODUCTIVE OUTS. I bet you this game is at least tied if Iguchi is playing...Everett would have 2 sac flies. Nice play by the Viz-meister. Like I said, this game makes you appreciate what Iguchi has done for us. We've been spoiled by his ability to get the runner over.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) Just ignore him. I think he needs anti-depressants or something. I kinda feel sorry for him actually. Wow, talk about being a tool. No reason to bring up something like that for those that might have to take it that belong to this board (and no, I most definitely dont). Find me one thing I said tonight which isn't true? Just because I don't feel like it's my job to be the public relation specialist for the Sox, it doesn't mean I don't root for them just as much, if not likely more than you do.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) Luis has an ERA of 1.62 since the start of June Doesn't necessarily mean he's throwing the ball better. From my viewpoint, he's just been stranding a lot of runners on base, and avoiding the 3 run homer (which obviously, is a good thing). Shingo, on the other hand, seems much crisper with his fastball, and his numbers over the last month or so aren't as good as Vizcaino's likely. Good stat though, I appreciate the good conversation!

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) WHITE-SUX-HIT-.205-VS-RHP-ON-THE-SEASON. NOT-EVERY-RHP-IS-FROM-OAKLAND. Are the Sox really hitting .205 vs RHP this season? I know we struggle against RHP, but that number is extremely low.

Vizcaino is back to throwing meatballs over the plate. Hitters look so comfortable against him at the dish. Hopefully, if this game gets out of hand, Jenks will come in.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) This game is looking like another gift given to the A's by the Sox. God damn, I hate these pathetic efforts. Another game where we're held in check by a mediocre RHP that can occasionaly throw an offspeed and/or breaking pitch. We need another lefty bat more than a pitcher. Tonight is the type of night that gload should be playing 1b.

GAME THREAD 7-8-2005 SOX vs A's
I know I'll probably get ripped for this, but my biggest fear for this weekend is that the Sox get swept by the A's, while the Twins win 3 in a row against the Royals, and the Cubs sweep the Marlins. Then, for the next three days, all we'd hear about is whether or not the Sox are a fluke, and how great of a decision it was by the Cubs to send down Patterson. I'm just being honest about a scenario that I thought about driving home today, and it would really put a downer on what has been a fantastic first half of the season. Fire away

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) JG isn't going to get his 14th win tonite Just like in regards to who makes the All-Star Game, I could careless who gets the win. All that matters is the final result, honestly. Garland doesn't deserve to win this game, so it won't bother me that he won't get the win.
