Why do our hitters chase any offspeed pitch once they have 2 strikes on them?
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) Garland is back to the Garland of old. That was a textbook example of why Garland is not an ace. All of the hits/sac flies came with 2 strikes that inning. Garland still has yet to develop a real strikeout pitch. He was real successful with his inside slider on lefties earlier this year, but he hasn't thrown that pitch in a month it seems.

I disagree with anyone saying Everett should be an option in the outfield. Our outfield defense has enough problems without having the worst possible outfielder out there in Everett. Everett also is very likely to get hurt if he's playing in the outfield. I don't know why this is a surprise to anyone that Everett might not get playing time. Everett knew this would be the case, and had no problem picking up his 4 million dollar option to likely be a bench player.

I'm not going to defend Brantley or Ozzie on this one, but the way Hawk was talking about the Ozzie/Brantley thing was disgusting tonight. Who is Hawk to question what Brantley knows about baseball in regards to Ozzie? As someone said in another thread......how much ass kissing did Hawk and DJ give Ozzie tonight? Sounds to me like someone got a call from Reinsdorf and told them to promote Ozzie constantly tonight. If Ozzie and Hawk want Brantley to be quiet, then they need to do the same as well.

QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) Just wait till that body of his fills out. He's gonna be something. That would be nice, but pitch velocity does not always increase like power does as a hitter gets bigger. If anything, it seems like Sox pitchers lose velocity on their pitches the older they get.
-
McCarthy's fastball has got to be changed, and soon. He doesn't have a lot of velocity, and his fastball is extremely straight. Part of the reason he's having troubles with the long ball is because of his good control. He's wild in the strike zone, and doesn't have enough velocity or sink on his fastball to get away with it at the majors or AAA.

Cotts almost makes me miss Kevin Walker. Well done Neal!

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) Now that's heads up baseball. He threw over like 6 times, that wasn't so good. I got yelled at a month ago when I said it wasn't smart baseball after Pods got picked off twice in 3 innings. Pods has been what we needed this year, but he's been picked off a hell of a lot so far. He's on pace to get picked off about 15 times this year.

If Hernandez starts the 7th inning, Ozzie should get punched in the face by every member of the team.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) I'm going to bring this up before Ozzie starts making any moves: If he dares "save" relief pitchers this series and tries to snake wins away from the opponet by sneaking past poor RP preformances, I'm going to lose every ounce of faith I have left in our skipper. He needs to pull out ALL the stops to take at least 2 of these 3 games. I agree with you, but I'm sure Ozzie would just use the excuse that he wanted to save some relievers for the Rockies series coming up.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Naturally. We have our foot on this guy's throat and we let him get back in the game, regain some confidence, and shut the door. I love it. Or maybe we're just not getting the lucky ass hits we were getting in the first inning. It's not like we were tearing the cover off the ball....just finding holes.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) What location? Exactly, I don't know how anyone could say his stuff looks good. His fastball is either hitting the batter or ends up being a meatball. I can't believe we gave him a 2 year deal. Hopefully our offense can continue to get cheap hits.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) His stuff looks ok. I think it's in his head. His location is just killing him right now. It's the same thing that cost him against the Rangers.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) The fastball inside was called for, that is what he threw. He missed his spot out over the plate. I will assume that one finger down and pointed inward means throw the fastball inside. That HR is no one's fault but El Duque, he missed his spot and furthermore, he was the one who hit a guy and walked a guy that inning. Blame goes where blame belongs. How many times are we going to throw Crisp inside fastballs, only to have him turn on them and drive them down the line? Hernandez has had no control on his inside fastballs all game. It's sad when we have to pray for a starting pitcher to get a single batter out.

QUOTE(valponick @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) I would honestly feel more comfortable with BMac being the 5th starter for the rest of the year, at least he throws strikes and listens to his catcher and pitching coach. Hernandez at Colorado next week will not be pretty.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) not ozzie's fault. duke's fault. Yes it is Hernandez's fault. However, Crisp should have never had anything good to hit that AB. That directive should have come from Ozzie and Cooper.
-
Maybe Ozzie will realize some day that lefties kill Hernandez, and to not let a lefty beat him in a big situation with a righty up next. Maybe that's too much strategizing for Ozzie....he's probably playing with Timo in the clubhouse.
-
Hernandez f***ing blows. We're better off if he's on the DL for the rest of the season.
-
Hernandez looks about as bad as he did last start. I get the feeling we're going to need another 5th starting pitcher this season.
-
Hernandez is looking the same he did in his last awful start against Rangers. I can't believe KW gave him a 2-year contract. Our bullpen is going to have to come through tonight.
-
Anyone else expecting this to be a very difficult game to win tonight? I'm not expecting much from Hernandez tonight against a lefty dominant lineup. Also, Westbrook is someone who will mow down hitters that are patient, and just get grounder after grounder. Only the Prior vs McCarthy game seemed like a bigger uphill battle this season for me.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) If Borchard was latin he would probably be up now playing in RF based on this. Thanks Ozzie. Way to double speak. I've caught a lot of heat on this board for saying that if Timo wasn't a latino/hispanic player, he'd be off the team by now. I know that's a pretty controversial statement....but it's something I honestly believe in.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Well Bruuuce Levine was on MJH and Jurko said oh well Timo will be send down when Gload comes off. Bruuuce stated that he is out of options and you will lose him. A comment to the effect of "HE GAWN" was sounded by Jurko, then Bruuce said well Ozzie believes that Timo is very important to this team and wouldnt want to risk him to waivers. :uhoh Sounds like Timo is going to stay and Willie or Pabo will be gone. Thanks Ozzie. You are using the wrong head to think again. Timo is going nowhere. There's not a doubt in my mind. Ozzie values Timo as much as anyone else on our team.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) He handles routine plays like DeAngelo Jimenez. I hate the way he approaches the game. Exactly. Hell, Timo probably loved playing first base. Besides catcher, it's the only other position where you're allowed to use one hand catching the ball without drawing the ire of the fans. Timo acts like he's the s*** out on the field......but in reality, he's just s***.
-
QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) He seems to be a good clutch hitter ..... and that's it. He's very slow and his fielding sucks. Timo seems to be a good clutch hitter because he is put into key spots by our manager, who seemingly trusts him more than about 90 pct of our team. Before Monday's hit, Timo was having just a miserable season in clutch situations.
