Mon schedule. Haven’t seen Moncada anywhere for awhile.

-
Davis Martin 4 scoreless for AAA
-
Schultz listed as starter in second game. That’s two good pitchers going for bham today.
-
If Smith 8.5, 2.5 and 2 for the HS, you have 13 already.

First, I understand the money spent on the draft by MLB is part of the collective bargaining agreement with the MLBPA. Listening to Shirley discuss the draft, he was clearly frustrated by how NIL was impacting what HS and college players were asking for. There is a high bust rate on draft picks and this year there was a lot of talk of getting higher draftees at discounts. Many picks in rounds 5-10 were to save money involving seniors with no leverage and less chance to actually succeed.. With these data points, is there any chance the structure of the draft changes to compete with NIL? I could see taking some money from higher picks and spreading it down to lower rounds in the top ten rounds? Second, any talk of firmer payments via slot more like NFL. Finally, do they need to raise from 150k to 200 or 250 in rounds 11-20 before it counts against your pool? Any of the guys with connections hearing anything? Jimmy Harold others?

Lots of makeup games. Think we will have rehabbing Davis Martin and Nastrini for AAA. Iriarte for AA in one of their games.
-
Jimmy Lambert scoreless inning on rehab in ACL.

Everybody playing. Iriarte for bham. I’m ready for some trades.

LOL If Grant Smith were Hagen Smith's little brother, you could give him 150k without counting against your pool. You could drop Hagen by 150k , again LOL. Next year we need a first rounder with ten to twenty little brothers/cousins. We save millions and sign EVERYBODY. LOL system beaten

Sox sign Grant Smith SS. No school listed at present.

Mogollon ops 1.759 in July. Don’t know if something clicked/luck/bad pitching.

If a guy can't throw strikes but is ranked #213, I think it speaks to the weakness in the draft.

I think Smith was very close to slot. Burns went 2 to Cincy. Bet he took a big discount. Slot value 2 vs 5 difference was 2 million. That's how after 5 rounds and 6 picks, Cincy had 6 MLB top 80 while Sox had 2

Think more of a 2B and leadoff hitter with his lack of power but high OBP

Ryan Prager sounds interesting in his write up. A command lefty would be a bit of a change of pace from some of our hard throwers. Hope he doesn't become a guardian lol.

We have a long history of overslot seconds, many when they weren't expected to require that (Sheets etc).

Interesting. So you think Smith went underslot, and the amount we saved there was used to sign the two high school picks?
Not sure if it was that and/or the 5% of your pool that you can go over without more than a 75%tax. Beyond the 5%, you lose your first round pick the following year.

I would be happy with either Whitney or Oakie. I'm not sure the Sox have the $ left in their bonus pool to pay either one. Sorta odd picking Larson ahead of them if they do. Selfishly, I'd like Sirota in part because I watch Kanny's games and it would be nice to have a high draft pick we can watch. Smith isn't pitching this year and I doubt Bonemer or Larson gets out of the complex until 2026
Shirley, in his first day draft interview, mentioned two interesting things. First, a kinda vague intimation about Sox using their overage/savings on day one. I don't have the quote but he kinda stopped a sentence midstream like maybe TMI. Second, he mentioned higher asks by high schoolers than in the past. He mentioned 2 million dollar asks and that hopefully after a night of sleep and adjusting to the disappointment of not going day one that prices might come down.
