  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) unless for some dumb reason crawfords option is not picked up I know he'll be 39 years old but Brian Giles would actually be a good top of the lineup hitter. Walks a ton, doesn't strikeout at all and hits a ton of doubles. There's a reason why Epstein/James tried to get him last August.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Too lazy to research it, but he was a pretty high pick, I believe 5th or 6th round. 6th
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) No idea, but they can't keep doing this every single season. If none of these guys pan out this year, then they either have to sign someone or use their resources to acquire one. The only leadoff type player who's FA eligible in '10 is Chone figgins. * denotes a 2010 option First Basemen Carlos Delgado NYM Ross Gload * KC Aubrey Huff BAL Nick Johnson WAS Adam LaRoche PIT Robb Quinlan LAA Matt Stairs PHI Second Basemen Marlon Anderson NYM Ron Belliard WAS Jamey Carroll CLE Mark DeRosa CHC Omar Infante ATL Placido Polanco DET Freddy Sanchez * PIT Shortstops Bobby Crosby OAK Alex Gonzalez * CIN Khalil Greene STL John McDonald TOR Marco Scutaro TOR Miguel Tejada HOU Jack Wilson * PIT Third Basemen Adrian Beltre SEA Hank Blalock TEX Geoff Blum HOU Pedro Feliz * PHI Chone Figgins LAA Chipper Jones ATL Mike Lamb MIL Melvin Mora * BAL Chad Tracy ARZ Catchers Josh Bard BOS Henry Blanco SD Ramon Castro NYM Ramon Hernandez * CIN Jason Kendall MIL Victor Martinez * CLE Benji Molina SF Jose Molina NYY Miguel Olivo * KC Mike Redmond MIN Brian Schneider NYM Yorvit Torrealba * COL Outfielders Rick Ankiel STL Jason Bay BOS Marlon Byrd TEX Frank Catalanotto TEX Endy Chavez SEA Coco Crisp * KC Carl Crawford * TB Johnny Damon NYY David Dellucci CLE Jermaine Dye * CWS Ryan Freel BAL Brian Giles SD Vladimir Guerrero LAA Matt Holliday OAK Geoff Jenkins * PHI Reed Johnson CHC Andruw Jones TEX Austin Kearns * WAS Hideki Matusi NYY Jason Michaels CLE Xavier Nady NYY Magglio Ordonez * DET Dave Roberts SF Gary Sheffield DET Randy Winn SF
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Has Jordan Danks played at all? And Dayan looks f***ing stellar. Danks played in one split squad game that wasn't televised, I think he had a couple hits. He's in minor league camp so we're not going to see much of him until near the end of spring when rosters start getting pared down and the players from minor league camp start getting some time near the end of games.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Please don't get on me for saying this, but the last thing to return to players with wrist injuries is their power. Hopefully Quentin doesn't press too much. Derrek Lee. Though according to Cowley Quentin has been hitting some bombs in batting practice.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) Agreed, you have to wonder if McCarthy's going to always have injury issues. It's gotten so bad for Brandon that he's begun changing his repertoire in an attempt to stay healthy. He's ditched his curve in favor of a slider.
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) with the exception of david price Allen actually put up an .830 OPS against lefties last season.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Look at Vitters...he sucked out of the gate in professional baseball, and then strung together a few good months. This offseason, the Cubs had one of the best trade chips around with him. It would make little sense but can you imagine what the Orioles could get for Matt Wieters right now? They could turn the #5 overall pick in the 2007 draft in to just about anything they wish.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Something no one talks about with Fields last year is the human aspect of it. He had an extremely promising 2007 campaign, and then he gets sent back to the minors. We know he's a very spiritual, emotional guy, and that couldn't have been easy on him. Then he hurts his knee/leg, and he's having to play on one leg. When they interviewed him during an Okl St football game this season, he said people had no idea how injured he was. That was talked about on here, he was pretty much called a pussy.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Either way, it's a good situation to be in. It's a lot better to have a top 10 pick than the 14th-16th pick and still not be very competitive. I'll take Slayer though, but I can't believe I'm rooting for a Georgia Bulldog. The best thing about a top 10 pick is: you normally end up with an excellent trade chip a year after the draft. Regardless of whether or not your pick turns out to be a bust 4 years after the draft, with a good first year in the minors that player gains incredible trade value come July.
  11. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Is this the same quality of picture that you would get in the regular season on mlb.tv? No, this is crap. MLB.tv is pretty clear, the premium service is going to offer an HD quality picture this season.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Exhibit A for why it's not a bad thing to lose a lot of games once your season is over, from a competitive standpoint. No doubt.
  13. Josh is tearing the cover off the ball. He's looked like a very good baseball player thus far this spring.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) ? You always say that, but he really hasnt. Error by Flowers, little single into CF and a dribbler. The triple into right center?
  15. Melton couldn't remember Viciedo's name so he went with "other people."
  16. I can't believe the Sox got a guy like Link for Rob Mackowiak.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) And also was a fantastic bunter and hard to strike out. It's just crazy that he could rack up 750 PA in a season and only strike out 6% of the time.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Out of options and Grindy. He can take a walk actually. He's not bad in that regard. He's going to walk about 7%-9% of the time in the big leagues, that's not good. That's Jermaine Dye territory. Another thing he does poorly: he strikes out too much for a speedy slap hitter. 16%-19% is too damn high.
  19. After that strikeout I am now of the belief that Josh Kroeger sucks.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) I can't believe with all these minor leaguers getting time, we haven't seen David Cook at all. I'm not saying he should be annointed a job, but I do think his performance has earned him a look here or there. Does it say something when Stefan Gartrell makes an appearancwe before David Cook?
  21. Woah, Stefan Gartrell sighting in right. Kinda cool.
