Worst Contracts in Baseball
He's on the list because the Sox replaced the final year of his old deal ('08: $5.5M) giving him a $350K bump in salary for that season as incentive to sign on for 2 more years a year before he hit free agency. Apparently this is a bad thing? This offseason's top free agent catchers? Ivan Rodriguez (still without a job) and Henry Blanco. AJ would have easily been the most desirable catcher on the market, it was great foresight by KW locking him up a year early rather than getting into a bidding war with another club desperate for a starting catcher.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) You want to talk lazy? The Wii MLB 2k9 instruction booklet has multiple typos and the game does not display in full 16x9, there's a good inch on either side of the screen that is just black! Ouch. I'm about to pop in the game, I'll upload some video from the first game I play. And no, I don't feel the need to talk s***.

David Cook
I don't know if he was a free agent but if he was then he was re re-signed to a minor league deal. I don't think he was a minor league free agent, just eligible for the Rule V draft. He's in minor league camp, he was not invited to major league spring training. I think it's fairly obvious that some on this board have grossly overstated his worth. He wasn't placed on the 40 man roster to protect him from the Rule V draft, he wasn't selected in the Rule V draft and even with a huge hole in CF he couldn't even get an invite to spring training.

My first impression of MLB 09? Do they only have 1 picture of Dustin Pedroia? Could they not afford to buy a second shot? You know that follow through shot on the cover? It appears 5 times on the case and in the booklet, that just struck me as weird and kind of lazy.

ST Game: 3/02 Sox vs. Mariners (2:05 CT)
QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) Just looking at the box score, when Viciedo goes to the minors he should start learning a new position, and get back to the club in August with Gordon. And as I've said many times Clayton Richards is NOT a starter. Great long man out of the pen for sure. He's good for 2-3 innings then BOOM implosion. That spells Long Man to me. And a DAMN fine long man if I don't say so myself... Ok, Bill.

My copy of MLB 09 The Show shipped a few hours ago form Amazon. It's gonna be tough juggling playing time for that and Killzone 2 which is highly addicting.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) So it's ok? I had to re-wire all of my inside phone wires when we added a room. That was fun... Should be. The phone that was causing the problem isn't used too often so leaving it unplugged will not be an issue. This weekend I'll try to figure out why it was causing problems to begin with.

Oakland Signs Cabrera
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) I agree, but thank goodness it appears that Danks and Floyd worked out. That makes that a lot easier. When your 3 best/most reliable starting pitchers are 23, 26 and 30 and 4, 4 and 3 years away from free agency a lack of starting pitching prospects isn't too worrisome.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) saw In Bruges after much pestering from friends - loved it. Even people who dislike Colin Farrell (myself included) have to agree that he was awesome in that movie. Definitely one of my favorite movies of 2008.

Via process of elimination I've found the culprit. There's definitely something wrong with one of the hookups, when I disconnected the phone line from the wall and called the house the internet did not go out. Mystery solved.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) I had that happening and all it was was (good english, I know) the DSL and the phone line were plugged in the wrong place on the filter. Check that. Ok, I checked all 3 phones, the filters are all connected properly.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Anyone have the legal logistics on why I can't listen to the game through the Score online? Because the MLB prefers that you use their pay service instead.

I have AT&T DSL. It seems every time the phone rings my internet connection goes out for a good 30 seconds, this can be incredibly annoying when you're doing something that requires a continuous connection to the internet. I know DSL runs off the phone line so that makes sense. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it common?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Slayer at SS. Jenks in to pitc. Donny Lucy with a triumphant return behind the plate and Santos at SS You know, it really is. There was a lot of talk of his catching career being over after his dislocated knee cap last season. I'm glad he was able to recover and make it back behind the plate, all of his value as a baseball player comes from his catching ability.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) For all the bashing of the Alexei was the best 2B in the AL statement, I thought he meant defensively only. I believe you have at least an argument in that case. I don't think he was anywhere near the best, I thought he was at times spectacular but overall disappointing probably because he had never played there before. The numbers suggest he was one of the worst. If he had called him the most spectacular defender at the position he'd have a case.
