  1. Sure he may look like an innocent child whom you may see frolicking in a meadow some sunny spring afternoon but under that sweet exterior lies a lethal killing machine.
  2. I'm getting caught up with Conan starting with Monday's show. Someone needs to tell Bob Saget that he isn't funny and that he needs to go away. His brand of shock humor wears thin after the first joke (which is especially unfortunate when he's doing an hour long Stand-up special) and he has no intuition for comedy. Hey! I'm Danny Tanner from Full House watch me say the word ERECTION! I don't know why Conan keeps having him on, watching Saget stare at a crowd that isn't laughing at his lame jokes isn't particularly funny. Apparently not being funny is supposed to be inherently funny, I don't get it.
  3. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Nix/minor league deal No matter how convincing some blurb from Cheat's blog may be I'll just go with common sense which tells me that players signed to minor league deals don't go on the 40 man roster, that's sort of the whole point of signing someone to a minor league contract; they don't take up a roster spot. And now after looking at Rotoworld I see that they confirmed 2 days after the Sox signed Nix that it was a major league deal. http://rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/p...=MLB&id=488
  4. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) 2005 WS remaining (Playoff) Roster Ozzie Guillen (Manager) Bobby Jenks Jose Contreras Mark Buehrle AJ Pierzynski Paul Konerko Jermaine Dye I never would have bet money that this team would've changed this much in 4 years Frankly, I'm surprised that a quarter of that team is still around. The Astros only have 5 players left from their '05 team.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Nix signed a minor league deal with us. He'd have to pass through waivers to be sent to AAA, but unless he puts up ridiculous numbers in the spring the odds are almost certain he'd do that, since he did so already. And if he puts up ridiculous numbers in the spring, then why are we sending him down? Nix signed a major league deal that's why he's on the 40 man roster.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) Nix is out of options right? So I take Nix and Lilli and option BA back down since he still has one, and I send Wise to the bus stop. Or you could just send Nix outright to AAA and watch him clear waivers like he did twice last season. He'd be even more redundant on the big league squad than Brian Anderson. Nix, Getz, Lillibridge and Betemit can all play 2B which as far as I know is the only position Nix is capable of playing. Nix was also cut by a team with no 2B (the Rockies) after posting 56 of the worst ABs imaginable last season. At least Brian had some success as a PH last season.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Thats the thing. If BA doesnt start, doesnt that roster spot for the 4th OF go to Lillibridge? Assuming Owens and Getz get spots in the starting lineup, Viciedo goes to the Minors and the Sox go with 12 pitchers that leaves 4 bench spots. The backup catcher and Betemit are locks so there are two open spots. Out of Lillibridge, Nix, Wise and Anderson who are you taking?
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 03:15 PM) Any Adam Russell pictures? I not that huge a fan, I just find it hilarious how freakishly tall he is. There have only been 8 pictures of individual players and half of them are of Ozzie.
  9. According to Cowley the starters for the first spring game will be Quentin, Owens, Dye . . . Fields, Ramirez, Getz, Broussard . . . Pierzynski, Richard . . . Thome
  10. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) and why is that? Double the playing time, the opportunity to mentor a young catcher (something he enjoys), lesser competition and he gets to live and play in San Diego.
  11. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) they could of had blanco for 750k instead and he actually would have helped. San Diego was a much better fit for Blanco.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) In other words, they both suck. Except one of them is 4 years younger, still has potential and can play elite defense at 3 positions. I'm not about ready to give up on Brian after only 2 major league seasons, 1 as a platoon player and the other as a sporadic bench player. Of course I don't expect everyone to feel the same way.
  13. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) im sure they probly will keep wise bcuz didnt they sign him to a 1yr/750 contract? They gave him $550K or slightly above league minimum, they won't hesitate to eat that salary.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) www.google.com for next time BA .232 .272 .709 Wise .248 .293 .742 +.16 in BA +.21 in OBP +.33 in OPS both terrible, Wise slightly outperformed BA. Both arent major league hitters. And here's why that .33 point difference means absolutely nothing especially with such a small sample size: BB% Wise: 5.8% Brian: 5.2% ISO: Wise: .202 Brian: .204 The difference between Wise and Anderson last year was a HBP and a single. So in other words there was no difference. Given the rather large difference in age and talent I can't think of a single reason to keep Wise over Anderson. You take the better player regardless.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Sorry, you edited after I replied. And I dont think ANYONE could find a reason why Wise should make the team, I think you are trying to make my initial post something it wasnt. I meant no ill will. Just wanted to add an addendum to my post.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) Projections dont mean much to me. I saw Wise hit better than BA last season, its in the numbers. Regardless, what does BA bring to this team? He is a defensive sub for CF. For CF we have Lilli, Owens, BA, Wise realistically competing. I'm not sure BA can bring enough to the table to make him the starter, so basically its a 3 man fight for the 4th OF'er position. If Lilli doesnt win the starting job, I'm betting 100 percent than he makes the team based on his ability to backup 2B, SS and CF which leaves the starting position the only opening and the only chance for BA to make the team. I dont think the chances of him starting are all that great IMO, but of course he rakes in ST so maybe he will give us false hope once again. Show me. Then give me a few good reasons why Wise should make the team not why Brian shouldn't.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Were there new episodes of Flight of the Conchords and Eastbound and Down last night? Yes
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) So, BA should make the team on defense, and Wise shouldnt make it even though he hits better? Because of Lillibridge's defensive abilities across several positions, this pretty much makes BA worthless on this team doesnt it? How is Wise a better hitter? He had slightly better numbers in less ABs and ended the regular season in a death spiral. Bill James has them putting up near identical OPSs next season (.735 for Wise and .744 for Brian). I don't see much of a use for an outfielder who plays terrible defense and gives you very little at the plate, Wise has some pop and can run a little but that's all he does well. Hell Wise and Anderson had near identical ISOs last season, .202 for Wise and .204 for Brian so even the power argument holds no water.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Why? They both had sporatic at bats last year and Wise outperformed BA. What reason is it that BA should get the nod? Dewayne Wise is incapable of playing a decent centerfield or leftfield for that matter, that's why. There wasn't a large enough difference in their on field play to make up for this fact. Their numbers were almost identical.
  20. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Does anyone think that another team would pick up Owens if he throws out a sub-par spring? Wise as well. Owens probably, Wise no. I think the rest of the league understands that Dewayne Wise is not a major league hitter hence why he passed through waiver last season.
  21. And Orlando Hudson will make $8M this year if he stays healthy, sure his base salary is $3.4M but when you sign a guy like this you have to assume he'll reach his incentives and there just isn't $8M in the budget. Add on top of that Bobby Abreu's $5M and suddenly trading Dye becomes impossible, now you're going $4M-$6M over budget just to move Dye (NO team is going to trade for Dye without receiving cash in return).

    2009 Oscars Thread

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Here is the winnah formula. A Gay Wrestler goes to India to fight against Nazi's set to a musical. Make the gay wrestler retarded and you'll sweep the Oscars.
