Chris Stewart hit .356/.408/.489/.897 in 100 PA against lefties last season at AAA Scranton. Though this follows no pattern for Stewart this could be KW's logic.

Yeah, Armstrong makes the most sense if he can play good defense (which he supposedly can). He hasn't hit lefties well in the minors but he's been excellent against righties and it hasn't really been a true platoon at the catcher's position since AJ joined the team, the backup's PA have been split about 45/55 between righties and lefties. Ivan Rodriguez would be a godsend.

Major League Baseball has expressly prohibited the illegal use of performance enhancing drugs since 1991 but didn't add a punishment for the offense until 2004. Is it okay to break it rule if it has no punishment?

I just went back and checked the game logs for each White Sox victory DeWayne Wise participated in last season and his name appears in the top 5 plays only 2 times the entire season. Twice.

Alexei's granny vs the Tigers is bigger than anything DeWayne Wise will ever do. Wise is a bad baseball player who got hot for a week (a week in which the Sox had a losing record) then finished the season with an absolutely horrible slump. 1-10 in the final 3 games (CLE, DET, MIN) and 0-for the big Twins series. 3-31 to finish the season. He hit a grand slam in the 8th inning of a tied ballgame vs DET and a couple solo HRs in a blowout in Kansas City. THAT'S IT. Baseball Reference has the top 5 plays for each game based on WPA (win percentage added). In the month of September DeWayne Wise's name appears twice: he had the #1 play in the second game of the Detroit double header in which he hit the granny and he had the #5 play (a bunt basehit that moved Cabrera to 2nd in the 4th inning) in the first game of the double header. His name makes no other appearance in a White Sox Septembe victory. Talk about overstating a player's worth.

Merit is fairly easy to determine when talking about a Silver Slugger award or an All Star appearance but it becomes a bit more difficult with a defensive award. I probably could have elaborated further in the original post but you got me, what I posted was pretty hypocritical, mentioning the Gold Glove was stupid on my part, though the Fielding Bible is different. Joe Crede has always had the potential to be the best at his position but I don't think he's ever been the best defender at his position in his league for a given year and I've never seen a compelling statistical/unbiased argument to the contrary.

Dick Allen is right on this one. Just because it's been reported as a 4 year, $10M deal doesn't necessarily mean the contract contains a standard release clause. I'd venture to guess that it does but there's been no confirmation in the media that I can find. Draftees such as Rick Porcello and Andrew Miller have signed 4 year major league contracts but they'll be arbitration eligible when those deals are up. I can't see Jaime Torres accepting any offer that didn't include a release clause simply because a 1 month stint in the minors to start the 2009 season would result in his client being under team control for 7 years or through his age 26 season. I can't recall a single big time international player signing a major league deal that didn't include a release clause. I know Takashi Saito didn't have one but that was a minor league deal.
