  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) And also was a fantastic bunter and hard to strike out. It's just crazy that he could rack up 750 PA in a season and only strike out 6% of the time.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Out of options and Grindy. He can take a walk actually. He's not bad in that regard. He's going to walk about 7%-9% of the time in the big leagues, that's not good. That's Jermaine Dye territory. Another thing he does poorly: he strikes out too much for a speedy slap hitter. 16%-19% is too damn high.
  3. After that strikeout I am now of the belief that Josh Kroeger sucks.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) I can't believe with all these minor leaguers getting time, we haven't seen David Cook at all. I'm not saying he should be annointed a job, but I do think his performance has earned him a look here or there. Does it say something when Stefan Gartrell makes an appearancwe before David Cook?
  5. Woah, Stefan Gartrell sighting in right. Kinda cool.
  6. Man, Kroeger hits the ball hard. He looks hitterish.
  7. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) In situation where Beckham plays short Alexei plays CF, who leads off? Lillibridge 2B ? Getz or Beckham.
  8. That's the dream but after the way Ozzie has raved about Alexei's defense at short there's just no way they move him to center. Short is probably Alexei's until he leaves the organization.
  9. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) Which is, at best, a break-even rate. Owens contributes nothing. Well 75% is considered break even, 71% is a serious detriment.
  10. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ For a guy who really only has one tool... you think he'd be better at it. 71% minor league career SB%
  11. He's really not that good of a base stealer.
  12. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) I want to go to whatever thread Kalapse is going to. He's so cool. So what did I do to deserve that?
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) Is anyone else starting to worry about Juan Pierre? Bad contract, yes, but he wants a trade, and Kenny wants him. Or he could just sign the recently released Dave Roberts. That'd be fun, right? Right?
  14. Typical Cubs crowd, getting exciting over nothing.
  15. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I'd love to have Brian but unless something happens Jerry will simply outplay him this spring. Which is why spring training competitions are f***ing retarded. We already know what both players are capable of, a few meaningless March ABs don't change a player's potential and are not a precursor to future success. In a perfect world managers would do away with spring competitions and award the job to the player who gives the team the best chance at winning.
  16. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Nono. I was just speaking of hitting the baseball. Not who I want to start in CF or defense or any of that. I just cannot stand to watch BA at the plate. I don't think anyone actually enjoys watching Anderson hit.
  17. QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) Agree completely, Owens had a decent game, 2 hits 1 RBI, last night. Both of his singles were cheapos, the Cubs outfielders were playing him incredibly deep for some reason.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) 2B-303, SS-52, OF-15, 3B-6 About 81% of Getz's career games have been played at 2B. I think it would be a stretch to put him at 3B, 1B or in the outfield more than in "emergency" situations. I was about to say that Betemit was superfluous, but he's really not, because he's the best back-up for Fields and Konerko at those positions, and his presence allows Viciedo to start the season in the minors as well. Obviously, Lillibridge would be the best back-up at SS, the question is how much better Getz is than Betemit at that position. SS-553, 3B-435, 1B-53, 2B-18, RF-1, LF-1, DH-1 If you look at Betemit, he obviously has more career experience on the left side of the infield, and at 1B. The guy was once the #8 prospect in all of baseball, even though it was 7 years ago (the same time Borchard was found on those lists). Given that Wilson Betemit will easily be the most competent and accomplished hitter on the bench it's really not possible for him to be superfluous. Even if he were without a position he'd still be valuable because of his power off the bench and ability to hit right handed pitching. A semi-platoon of Fields and Betemit at 3rd could be a pretty dangerous combination.
  19. This game will be on WGN, Marquez gets the start.
  20. I know personally, if I say I "hate" Jerry Owens, I'm not talking about him personally. I'm speaking of his lack of ability as a baseball player and what he represents. I'm sure he's a perfectly fine individual.
  21. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) I wanted Porcello over him, but at least he has tools. And when Lance was drafted I wanted Garza or Carillo over him as well. Can you really blame the Sox for not wanting to give a high school pitcher a major league deal? Putting a 19 year old on the 40 man roster can seriously f*** things up 3 years down the road.
  22. That's 2 shattered bats induced by the power of Poreda.
  23. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) Was that Flowers with the hit? Josh Kroeger
  24. Looks like Poreda's added about 7 MPH on his fastball, tossing 'em up there at 104 MPH.
  25. 97 on the first pitch fastball for Poreda.
