  1. Oh f***! Did JD hurt himself on that dive?
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) You need to bring back the Thome Silhouette. I thought that was some of your finer work Good call, I'll probably end up doing that.
  3. Jim Thome is easily my favorite player in the game today. He's f***ing amazing in every way.
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) I thought we were talking about Callapso at first. Oops. If it were Callaspo then the whole Wife beating situation should be reason enough to keep away from him.
  5. It's his numbers, they don't translate well to the next level.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) I read where Hillenbrand may become a free agent a lot sooner. He supposedly is very close to being released. Shae is a complete dick, he's incapable of getting along with his superiors and refuses to make any changes to his game. He's a talented player but has a tough time getting along with others.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) This is karma for laughing at the Cubs all those years waiting on Wood and Prior. Here we are waiting on Pods and Erstad. Atleast Wood and Prior were immensely talented young players with the ability to pull a s***ty team out of the cellar, you can't say the same at all for Groiny and Grindy.
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) i can't believe you guys actually want uribe back....his ops is barely over .600 this year, and his obp last year was .257! i really have grown so sick of this guy....and he gets off so easily on this board...people jump all over guys like vazquez on this borad, who is at least a league average pitcher...but the fact that uribe may be one of the worst offensive players in teh majors goes largely unnoticed...at least last year he hit HR and 2b....but this year he has all of 11 extra base hits and 15 BBs....in short...thats horrendous...he still plays good D, but his defense isnt what it was back in 04 and 05....and certainly his D doesn't make up for his poor offense ...now dont get me wrong, i dont think andy gonzalez deserves to be anywhere near a major league field, but i dont think juan uribe is 4.7 million dollars better than him, or especially richar It's a defensive position if you can play stellar defense at short your s***ty offensive production can be excused to a point. Given the possible replacements, I'll take Juan's stellar defense and power potential over any of them. It doesn't mean I'm particularly pleased with Juan's offensive production just that he's the best option for 2008.
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) Marcus Giles' option is going to be picked up, and that's almost guaranteed. Kent's could very easily be picked up. Posada and Barajas's are very likely to be picked up. Aside from those 4, who are the top, it thins out incredibly. And I almost want Uribe back, because the alternatives - Eckstein, Vizquel, and like Andy Gonzalez - are seriously that much worse all around. Until an outstanding player becomes available, I'll take my chance with Uribe every year. 291 more PA until Kent's $9M option becomes guaranteed, unless he suffers a pretty serious injury sometime before the end of the season Kent will be back with the dodgers next season. I'll take Uribe at $5M over any of the alternatives.
  10. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) Why would Dunn be a bad move. The guy has 18 homers and 40 some RBI's. Where do our current players rate? Because at this point in the season the Sox should be selling off pending free agents for prospects not selling off prospects for pending free agents.

  12. baseballreference.com has batting statistics for all pitchers.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) Yeah I heard that live yesterday while in the car. It was THE classic moron Rowand guy. His whole argument was "he has a ring." By his logic, he'd rather have Geoff Blum at 3rd base instead of, say, Miguel Cabrera in a fantasy world. Cabrera has a ring. Alex Rodriguez and David Wright do not.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) For a second, I thought KW re-acquired him. Same here. Scared the s*** out of me.
  15. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Isn't there going to be a pretty good FA market out there this offseason? IIRC, this offseason will be the one to sign good FAs while they are all available at once. The class will be deep in CF and role playing outfielders as well as a couple good SP. The infield class is incredibly weak.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) boohooo can i wipe your eyes. Is there a reason why you feel the need to be a dick to all fans of opposing teams on the board? We really don't want you representing the board when a new poster makes their first appearance, you seem to do your best to chase them off.
  17. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) How about Dye and Broadway to the D-backs for Upton, Reynolds and Callaspo? Pena can step in as the set up man next year, Callaspo can man either MI position and Upton would be a MI/CF prospect with speed that the organization wants. Reynolds and Callaspo could be your MI next year and would allow you to move Juan in the off season for another piece. With the Dbacks having their OF filled already with prospects galore, and trying to make a run this year with Johnson and Quentin struggling in RF this makes sense for both sides. Plus the Dbacks would then get two draft picks if they are not able to sign JD. Just a hunch but I'm going to go out on a limb and say Josh Byrnes is not looking to deal the #1 overall pick in the '05 draft for 3 months of Dye and a future #5 starter. I'm just guessing though.
  18. Well Podsednik was 0-4 last night with a K and a CS, that's the 2nd SB he's attempted, he was successful the other time. Over his last 5 games for Charlotte he's struckout 6 times and walked only once.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) You know I would think so too. But this is Ned Colletti we're talking about here. He gave up Joel Guzman and Sergio Pedroza for Mark Hendrickson last season. Now Guzman's status as a prospect has slipped no doubt, but he was a top tier guy at the start of last season IIRC. So Colletti has shown he'll overpay in terms of prospects to fill a need. Guzman was the #3 prospect in the Dodger's system at the beginning of the '06 season behind Billingsley and LaRoche and ahead of Martin, Broxton and Elbert. So yeah, he was pretty highly touted as of the beginning of last year. By the end of '06 he was #10 in the D-Rays system.
  20. I really think adding Kershaw is pushing it.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Doesn't Iguchi have some clause lke Hideki Matsui's last year where he must be signed by the Sox before November 15th, and that he won't provide and supplemental picks (i.e. not Arbitration eligable.) Yes, I believe he does which is why he should be dealt before the deadline so they can atleast get something for him. I can't convince you it isn't a fluke because it just might be. The Sox would be taking a chance on a 25 year old infielder who managed to put up league average numbers in his age 23 and 24 seasons. A guy who is developing a pretty damn good power stroke and maybe, just maybe is starting to learn a little discipline. His trade value is pretty low right now since he has a few guys blocking him at the moment and a couple highly touted prospects ready take over at the positions he plays over the next few seasons. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Contreras has a NTC I think he can be convinced to waive it, especially if the Sox are planning on moving him in the offseason anyway. The NTC only applies to the 2007 season if I'm not mistaken.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) Take it a step further, I would love to see that money used to re-sign Mark. If that were to happen, I think the Sox could somehow come out looking good in the whole "firesale" situation... If they were truly up for it the Sox could sell off Mackowiak, Cintron, Erstad, Podsednik, Contreras, Iguchi and Dye at the break without leading the fans to believe they're going into rebuilding mode simply by re-signing Buehrle. And if they really wanted they could save up all that money saved by only paying these players for 3-4 months of work and put it towards the 2008 payroll, talk about sending the fans the right message.
  23. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Betemit is definitely 25 right now. His age is incorrectly reported on several sites. Baseballcube has the accurate one. The Braves illegally signed him to play professional ball at the age of 14. Yep, this was actually resolved a few years ago when Betemit decided to sue the Braves and attempt to become a free agent. His true age was revealed to be the lower of the two. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) Looks like Loney might be able to go on Tuesday. Either way, the Dodgers could use some punch in that lineup, and Dye fits the bill. The other intriguing situation with the Dodgers is the pitching. Looks like Schmidt just can't stay healthy, and could head back to the DL. They do have depth with Tomko and Hendrickson to fill in, along with Billingsley, but you have to figure with the Dodgers trying to make a serious playoff push, that getting a 1-2 type pitcher would be of interest. Could a mega-deal of Buehrle AND Dye happen? Contreras and Dye for Billingsley, Betemit and something else of high value would be so f***ing amazing. It would free up $10M for next year from the loss of Contreras which is HUGE as well as fill a couple needs for '08 and beyond.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Gotcha. You don't need to check Garland's if it's a lot of work. I was just curious. It takes about 3 minutes to look it up, not a big deal at all. Garland only has 1 by the way. That came on June 4th Vs the Yankees when Garland allowed a double to Matsui in the 9th and the clusterf*** of s***ty relievers allowed him and 3 others to score. Based on the fact that Buehrle has 2 and Garland 1, I'd say that theory is dead. I'd also say they're probably under the league average for % of ER coming from inherited runners scored. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Gotcha. You don't need to check Garland's if it's a lot of work. I was just curious. It takes about 3 minutes to look it up, not a big deal at all. 25. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) That's actually an interesting point. Any of you stat guys know how many of Buehrle and Garland's inherited runners have scored? It took some work but in 13 starts this season only 2 of the 33 ER Buehrle has allowed this season have come via inherited runners scored. Both scored on May 18th against the Cubs, Mike MacDougal was the culprit. I'll check Garland but atleast in Buehrle's case inherited runners scored doesn't seem to be a big problem.
