  1. So if the Sox lose both the Pirates and Cubs series can the firesale begin?
  2. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) My mistake. But it doesn't change the fact that Anderson can't hit major-league pitching. You're right. I misrepresented data on purpose. :oldrolleyes You crack me up. Anderson struck out in a full 1/4 of his at-bats last season, he only drew 30 walks, his average is laughably low, he doesn't really hit for power either, and he can't steal bases. But he was supposedly a better option than Erstad at the beginning of the season? On a team that was supposed to be competitive? LOL. I have no problem with people criticizing KW for signing a cheap, broken-down Erstad instead of a more reliable veteran. I have no problem with people criticizing Ozzie for playing Erstad in CF and not using Anderson there as a defensive replacement. But at this point of his career, Anderson is worthless outside of his defense. Absolutely worthless. And I'm glad that he's back in the minors right now because that's where he belongs. What good does Erstad do you if he's on the DL or hobbled by a bum ankle? And I never said you did it on purpose maybe you shouldn't take s*** so personally. And what exactly is the difference between a strikeout and a ground ball to 2nd? Strikeouts don't bother me all that much when he's walking at a decent rate like he did last season.
  3. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) i vote yes on trading Thome it's time to start collecting as many good young players as possible. thome is a threat to get reinjued at any time. value will never be higher. And we could find a serviceable DH at a much lower price. What halfway decent DH (.850+ OPS) are you going to find for less than $7M? And his value will be higher if he starts becoming more of a power threat over the next month. He's had some trouble turning on the inside pitch since getting off the DL. If he can start driving he ball out of the park on a regular basis up until late July his value will be even higher.
  4. I'm sure Crede and his ailing back would do just great covering all that ground at short.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) In 17 at bats. No, it's not. .632. And only 51 of those at bats were outside of 2006. Kind of a big difference when you drop someone's career OPS by 100 points.
  6. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) I would hope that Terrero would start in LF once Erstad is back. I would hope Erstad and his shaky ankle would take over LF duties with Terrero staying in CF.
  7. Hopefully some team will take a flier on Erstad and Pods, they'll do nothing for this team but take away playing time from players who might actually have a chance of returning next season. Erstad's return will only take ABs away from Terrero which is a damn shame.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) I'd do that trade in a heartbeat....but it will never happen. Good grief, I hate this time of year. Yeah, pretty much except for the last part, I actually love this time of year.
  9. IMO they were watching the Angels, Chone specifically. Sadly he went 2-4 w/ 2B and a BB.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Wouldn't that be just about the same exact time we got Freddy 3 years ago? That was June 27th which was the last Sunday in June so yeah, pretty much.
  11. The first move will be made on June 24th sometime around 7:00pm.
  12. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) Yea f*** Javy Vazquez and that rookie John Danks. Yeah, you're right. I just had higher hopes for Vazquez this season, he's been very productive and an above average starter but really expected dominance. I just flat out forgot about Danks.
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) I don't pay enough attention anymore. I assume you made that quote up?
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) I think I'd love to see an injury-prone-but-productive Erstad in the lineup also. But that .652 OPS he's put up this year makes me sort of wonder when exactly people think this productive Erstad will appear? A .311 OBP is productive when you're also providing an unstoppable veteran presence in the clubhouse.
  15. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) Really! Who COULD he name right now? Erstad was the only one making a name for himself until he got hurt. Right now I'm unimpressed/disgusted with all of them. Save for maybe Buehrle and Garland. Jenks. Making a name for himself as a mediocre ballplayer. Thome, Terrero, Buehlre, Garland, Logan, Vazquez, Danks and Jenks are the only ones who have put together productive seasons thus far.
  16. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) Well, after listening to Gage I don't think we're going to see Anderson again. Neither do I but that wasn't the question.
  17. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Can't argue with that. Then again, this organization's young, healthy players are overwhelmingly mediocre. I'd rather see an injury-prone-but-productive Erstad in our lineup than Anderson. I wouldn't, Erstad's only going to end up playing around 3 months this year atleast with Anderson you have some upside and relative health.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) I'm not a particularly big fan of his contract given his numbers. Yes, he's an offensive and defensive upgrade from Uribe, but he also costs more. It could be worth it though if we get some success out of some of our kiddies next year to plug that hole @ SS for 2 years. Uribe's OPS over the past 3 seasons combined is actually 20 points higher than Wilson. Neither of them hit for average or take a lot of walks but Wilson does both a bit better than Uribe whereas Juan has much better power numbers. They're probably the most comparable players to eachother with Wilson having a completely ridiculous contract.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) You can turn it into whatever you want to turn it into, but to say that injuries haven't hurt this team is just wrong. Which has more to do with the way this team was put together than anything else. When you're putting incredibly injury prone players in important positions and expecting them to stay healthy you can't blame injuries for your team's failures. Injuries have been a major reason as to why this team has been bad but it's not even the #1 reason in my book.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) I think Contreras is pretty mediocre, but teams look for guys that have been good before and hope they can come back. Contreras would be that type of player and he has had some pretty good starts at times this season (its been his last few that have been pretty bad). I agree I doubt they do it, but its the type of deal I think both sides would at least consider (I think one of the big pluses for the Sox is they free payroll). Contreras needs to be dealt before the beginning of next season simply for the $10M it would save. I'd much rather watch Gio struggle to get hitters out in the 5th slot next year than a 50 year old Cuban making 8 figures.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:33 PM) The Cards would definitely make that deal, but I don't think the Sox would. Here is a question, would the Cards do Rasmus for Contreras (they are in a winnable division and Contreras still has the stuff to be pretty damn solid in the NL). If the Cards were willing to make that deal I wouldn't even hesitate in accepting it. I really don't think Contreras has that sort of trade value at this point in time but I've been wrong before, I think.
  22. You're not getting a player of Loney's caliber or Eithier for that matter along with Billingsley in exchange for Jermaine Dye. Reyes blows.
  23. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) Maybe we could just sign Buerhle at the end of the season In all seriousness, I wonder why that never happens: A player that's been with a team for a long time gets traded in his FA year, and then signs with that team again in the offseason as a way to help the team acquire talent. If I played for the White Sox and knew we weren't going anywhere this year, I'd go to another team for 1/2 a year, so the Sox could get great young talent, and then just resign with them in the offseason. Sidney Ponson
  24. Trading Thome would free up somewhere between $7-$7.5M next year. FYI. Good luck replacing his offensive production for next season.
