QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) I never said you did specifically, I was speaking more generally about the SoxTalk public. You don't criticize all of Ozzies moves, I know that. But when he does make a mistake, you sure are one of the 1st people saying they called it... If I did call it then why wouldn't I post about it? I had a discussion on the board this morning about the use of Anderson as a late game defensive replacement and guess what? That just happened to play a big part in tonights game. I happened to be on the right side of the argument this morning, of course I'm going to talk about it now. It only makes sense. I just don't like it when obvious moves are not made and they end up costing the team runs or games, I'm going to b**** when that happens, you should probably get used to it. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) Interesting call about some theory about hitting the lip of the wall, and how the ball came down. And then some complaints about how bobby isnt the same and doesnt throw hard anymore. Same call It could not have been more obvious, exact same talking points.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:07 AM) I'm not suggesting he shouldn't have made the defensive replacement. I'm suggesting that sometimes the players have to perform too. And Kalapse, I said immediately after the top of the 9th ended, Bobby is going to blow this save. I say things all the time. Sometimes I am right, most of the time I am wrong. Bottom line is, we can second guess all we want, it isn't as simple as you'd like to make it. And if indeed, it is as simple as you make it, how stupid are you for sitting here with us and repeating it over and over again in vain on a message board? Ok, I am through venting for the evening. Let's get a win tomorrow. It had nothing to do with Jenks, Ozzie was fine in that regard. It was his use of his outfielders that bothered me. I'm pretty sure it's easy to switch your fielders around and make substitutions. I don't think there's any complicated levers or dials to be fiddled with that might confuse the manager but I've never been in a major league dugout during a game so who knows.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:02 AM) I just don't see how Ozzie would get all the blame for this one when Jenks was pitching so s***ty. If you're an Ozzie-hater, you have to reeeeeeally stretch to blame this loss all on Ozzie or most of the blame on Ozzie and Podsednik over Jenks. If there is an average defender in LF for the 9th inning, Bradley is probably thrown out at home, probably. That same defender makes that last play with his back to the wall, Pods had no clue what he was doing on that last play, a guy like Erstad who knows what he's doing in the outfield makes the play and we go to extras. Podsednik should not have been in the game, that's Ozzie's call. There I just put 33% of the blame on Ozzie for the 9th inning, not the majority but certainly a good portion.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) You're giving yourself and everyone else way too much credit. Everyone calls Ozzie out on everything he does. Not hard to be wrong when thats the case... I'm not going to lump myself in with everyone else but if you read what I post on this site then you'll know that I DO NOT criticize every move he makes, that's some bulls***.

Who the f*** is the screener for the Sox Post game shows on the score? Can we get a little variety? Must every f***ing caller be a PFB clone? QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:59 AM) Tell me you don't call him on stuff all the time and it works out in his favor? I know I do all the time and he proves me wrong... He proves me wrong every once in a while but the proof is on this site, a lot of the times when people end up b****ing about Ozzie after the game, that same complaint was made at the time of the move. Often by myself.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:57 AM) Well this is how I see it...I don't like second-guessing every mistake that costs us a damned game, because it's really f'ing easy. There are too many great managers out there who have things backfire on them and lose games. I think people also have to remember Ozzie has to interact with these guys nearly 7 days a week. Everyone is human. He has to make decisions not only based on how they will affect a given situation or game, but also how they will affect a player's pysche in the long run. This is a hell of a lot more complicated than some like to believe. Anyone catch the end of the Indians/Angels game tonight? Mike Scoscia, a damned-fine manager, is trailing 7-6 in the 9th, with two outs. He pich runs Erick Aybar for Casey Kotchman at first base. Aybar, whose successful stealing percentage in the minor leagues makes Podsednik look like a freaking LOCK, decides to send Aybar instead of allowing a 4-4 on the day Howie Kendrick a chance to knock him in with a double or more. Aybar gets gunned down at second, for the second time in this situation THIS WEEK, and the Angels lose, 7-6. He took the bat out of Kendrick's hands... Face it, every manager makes blunders....this was not Ozzie's best evening, but all things considered, there is plenty of blame to go around... Is it really second guessing when you call him out on it ahead of time?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:43 AM) I forgot how bad the Pink Fuzzy Bunny was on the postgame. good lord. 2006 is making a horrible return right now, I actually managed to wipe the name Chris Rongey from my memory bank for 6 months. Fantastic.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) Cheat, genius. The feather is a perfect touch. I take that back, the file name was the perfect touch.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) So it wouldn't have mattered if it were Carlos Beltran out in LF tonight? Because -- chances are, Beltran makes that throw in his sleep and the Sox win then and there. But chances don't mean squat, so Podsednik = Beltran, right? That throw Beltran made in the Opener was just remarkable, it's just proof that an above average arm can make an impossible throw look ordinary and to get Bradley a perfect throw was hardly necessary.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) I could anger everybody by saying our OF hasn't been the same since the loss of ... Rowand. I better duck on that statement. Would everybody agree our first eight games have not been too encouraging? I still have a great feeling about this team, 4/5 of the rotation looks good as well as 5/6 of the pen, not bad if you ask me. I really think today's loss will prevent future losses, Ozzie will learn from this mistake and the team will be better off for it which is why this loss doesn't bother me that much. I still feel good.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) I still don't understand why the best defensive outfielder on this team isn't being used as a defensive replacement late in games. They're sticking with a Pods/Erstad/Dye outfield in the 8th and 9th innings instead of taking advantage of his skills. I just don't get it. Pods should NEVER be in LF as late as the 9th, he has no arm and no clue. Ahem

QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) every season jenks starts out slow on the gun, give him some time to build it up. Every season? You mean last season. That's 1, hardly a trend. I still think my preseason prediction of MacDougal by week 3 will come true.
-
QUOTE(That funky motion @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:21 AM) Didnt it take a few weeks last year for Jenks to get up in the upper 90's? Last year Ozzie would have subbed Pods, lets hope he learned from his mistake. He said before the season even started the Anderson was his guy in the 8th and 9th for defensive purposes, still waiting for him to come through on that promise. QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:24 AM) Wow. A bad, bad sequence of events there. The blame goes on Bobby. He gives up 3 hits (possibly more) in 2/3 of an inning while Garland/Mac give up 3 hits in 8 innings. Scottie made a poor throw. He has a worthless noodle-arm. I think the walk was the thing to do, but we can second guess Ozzie all night long here. I didn't mind doubling-up Walker with the curveball, it just was a very-hittable, high-in-the-zone curveball, that's all. The only thing to do is come back tomorrow and do it all over again. It's a real shame, and it seems like this bs happens to Jon more than anyone else. But let's keep this in perspective, get some sleep tonight, and come back tomorrow and get this series. Let's go Mark! Everything aside. You have to admit this whole situation is pretty ironic.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:21 AM) Does Canseco have a more muscular "top of head" than Pods? Is it more boney? I've seen pre-teen kids get hit in the melon with baseballs and have it hardly phase them. Deon Sanders, it's the PERFECT comparison. (I'm really utilizing the selective CAPS tonight, good for me.)
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:18 AM) So it's easier to blame the loss on Pods and Guillen because discussing the elephant in the room would be boring? It seems there are a lot more posters here blaming both of them than Jenks. Now why is that? I'm not going to speak for them, you should really ask them yourself. Jenks f***ed up as did Pods and Ozzie. They deserve equal blame in my book. 33% each.
-
Deon Sanders took a ball to the top of the dome and was just fine. Same position and body type as Pods too.
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Nobody is addressing the real issue, and that's the fact that Jenks hasn't been the same pitcher since June of 2006, and, even then, his velocity was down 2 MPH from where it was for most of 2005? He's going to be better than Koch if he can get ahead, because his offspeed stuff can be effective, but he's going to get hammered because his fastball has less movement on it than Brandon McCarthy's these days. I said all this before the season even started. Go back and read that why don't you. There isn't much of a discussion behind that subject though, what do you want to debate about it? Poster 1: Jenks is bad Poster 2: Yeah, no s***. Poster 1: Cool. Poster 3: I concur. FUN!!!!
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:11 AM) When you say Anderson should be in or Pods can't throw or whatever, what exactly are you saying? Exactly that. s***, is it really that outlandish to want the superior defensive player in the game? It just bugs me because Ozzie said before the season started that BA would be used late in games as a defensive replacement and Oz hasn't done it once. And Pods can't throw, are you really going to argue that point? It's funny because I had a discussion about this just this morning. Same damn subject comes up 12 hours earlier. I'm not going to blame Ozzie for this one because Jenks should be able to get hitters out but the defensive alignment used by Oz in the 9th was just all wrong and I first guessed him on this one.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:10 AM) It was close....it easily could have from the angle they showed on the close-up replay. And FWIW, you rarely see players get hit in the head because major league players should be good enough to not let that happen. It would explain why he jumped early too, if the ball did hit the wall.
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) Yeah, hyperbole like blaming Pods and Guillen for the loss instead of Bobby Jenks is much more preferable and politically-correct. Go ahead taking on everyone's favorite whipping boy, Pods. Who will you have to berate when he's gone besides Guillen? I don't remember saying any of those things. Damn get on someone else because you're obviously not berating the correct poster. Calm the f*** down.
-
I honestly don't know if the ball hit the wall or not, Carey Sayers says it didn't but she doesn't mean much and from the 4 replays I've seen I don't think it did but I'm not ruling out the possibility that it did hit the wall. The play at the plate bothers me more simply because Pods had NO chance do to his pathetic arm. Erstad would have atleast made it close. Playing shallow LF and getting to the ball the same time the runner hits the bag you should have a shot to throw him out.
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) Maybe we should just go ahead and release Pods and play Brian Anderson everyday in LF and have him leadoff while we're at it? Ridiculous hyperbole only makes you look silly. Try sticking to the subject instead of tangents like that.
-
Bradley hit the bag at the exact same time the ball hit Pods' glove.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) No, with two outs, you're not throwing Bradley out in that situation. Maybe Konerko, but not Bradley. It would have been a close play. Either way someone with a real arm should have been in LF.
