  1. SoxAce is the smartest of the lot of ya. It was D'Angelo Jiminez. He and Carlos look a lot alike, they're basically the same face (with iminez having a thinner face), facial hair included. Another easy one: Who am I?
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Carlos Lee No
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) I'm actually not that big a fan, I think I'd rather have any number of guys in there. BUT, I think he is a FAR better choice than to start in CF this year. He's the best option on the club at this time. I feel the exact same way. I was never a big fan of his as a prospect either, he had some good tools, well rounded ballplayer but nothing he did in the minors ever jumped out at you. He has grown on me a bit largely because of his personality and defensively prowess but in the end there's a whole lot of guys out there I'd much rather have in CF than him but at this particular juncture he is the best CF option available.
  4. Chad Bradford. You all disappoint me greatly. OK easy one to get you f***tards in the win column: Who am I?
  5. So what exactly does "step it up" entail? How about 300 OPS points over his main competition in Spring? Not good enough? I can't even imagine how this is f***ing with Anderson's psyche.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) I was almost certain that was incorrect, but I had no idea that Timo was purchased by the Cards in April of last year. I thought he was with the Reds the entire year. Silly me If you ever question me again, so help me god . . .
  7. Offensively I'd take Podsednik, defensively I'd take Erstad. It's all a matter of which out weighs the other.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) Because it'll be either him or Pods hitting #1, and Erstad, who won't waste 25 outs getting caught stealing, is the lesser of the 2 evils. He also has a little bit more pop in the bat, and will get on base at the same rate Pods would. I actually think Podsednik has more power potential for the 2007 season, you likely will not see it but if both players went about things the same way at the plate this season I could definitely see Podsednik hitting a few more homeruns than Erstad this season. Of course at the most I see Erstad hitting 5 this year so that may have more to do with it than anything else.
  9. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) I think any lineup will be good. There's enough Pods, Ersatd hate around here to start a world war. I'm not saying their hall of famer's but haven't both these guys won world series and been to all-star games? The piching will be key. The lineup will do more than enough to win a world series. Oh s*** I didn't know making an AS game (7 years ago for Erstad and Pods only got in because I'm a f***ing badass) and being on a World Series team were evidence of a productive player. Someone better let Ronnie Belliard and Scott Williamson know that they don't suck before they kill themselves. Just as a fun fact, Timo Perez now has 2 rings and has played for 3 teams which have made the Wold Series. Alex Rodriguez World Series appearances? 0 I'm pretty much done debating the probabilities of the 2 lefties at the top of the order actually producing at an acceptable rate this season but I will make this last post before I disappear for the rest of the day. Looking at Erstad and Podsednik's skill sets as well as past production tells me a whole lot about what they could possibly bring to the club this year and it's not pretty. If you want to look at a couple all star appearances and a few world series at bats as some sort of evidence that these guys are going to help win some games this year and ignore some pretty damning statistical evidence then be my guest, I just wish I could be as blindly optimistic as you. Seriously. I am becoming increasingly krass and irritable as the Spring goes on. This upsets me greatly.
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Grinders are 1, 3, 5, good players are 2, 4, 6? The three great are probably Bonds (6), Pujols (4) and A-Rod (2), and the three grinders are Erstad (1), Rowand (3), and Eckstein (5)? Complete guesses.. but they make sense. You're right 1, 3 and 5 are grinders the other 3 are actually good. 1 = Rowand, 3 = Byrnes, 5 = Erstad and 2 = Pujols, 4 = Beltran, 6 = Howard. Good guesses though.
  11. No one has even come close. He once played for the Sox. That's your clue. You're welcome.
  12. I've watched a s*** load of Brewer's games over the past 3 seasons (I just love that team) and there's a reason why I've been mentioning Clark's name on here for the past 2 seasons. The guy can play all 3 OF positions well and is pretty damn good in CF (I would trust him out there as a starter over an extended period of time). He has an above average arm which makes him a pretty good backup in RF. He'd immediately become the Sox' 2nd best arm accuracy + strength player in the OF behind Dye. He's basically better than Erstad at most everything except Grinding. I'd welcome Brady Clark with open arms even if it cost one of my favorite players in Rob Mackowiak.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) I still remember the disappointment on the night when tenders had to be given towards your arbitration players, and we signed Ben Davis for a million dollars right around midnight. At that time, we all thought that AJP would be going elsewhere. I remember sitting at my laptop staring at Rotoworld waiting for the Sox' tenders to come across. I was heartbroken when I saw Ben Davis' name. What a s***ty night that was.
  14. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:26 AM) Morneau? Not even close.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) Sox sign AJ s***, I've already drastically limited my whining following Jermaine Dye's signing. Even Cubkilla himself must applaud Williams' commitment to our club. DAMN NEGATIVITY! You want negativity, I'll give you negativity: Sox Sign Iguchi Yeesh, talk about a hate fest.
  16. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) Well for one, damn near all of those OPS numbers you posted are better than what Pods has done so you don't think that is will help us this season? Talk about him getting 500 abs is crazy then we must be retarded then giving Pods 500+. No it wouldn't, but if it's nessessary (for some odd reason) fine. I don't think so eigher, but a decent year from him is still 2 times better than what we'd be getting from Pods besides the SB. I'm not saying he's the best option by any means but if you had to choose between the two and who would benifit our club the most eigher by defense, hitting history against pitchers, hitting wise, whatever you can think of I'd say Erstad is better in most categories. What the f*** is up with your spelling of the word "either"? You've spelled it "eigher like 15 times tonight. You're starting to worry me.
  17. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) Here's what I could find: -Sox sign Dye -Trading Lee for Podsednik/Vizcaino wasn't well received initially, but it wasn't until several deals later that it became clear the money extracted from Carlos Lee was distributed to Iguchi, Hernandez, Pierzynski. Since I can't find a thread specifically mentioning it, you can believe it or not. -Someone needs to open the search engine on Soxtalk to locate the thread discussing Orlando Hernandez' signing. I remember creating the thread, but I'm unable to find it using Google. - 2005 predictions. I'd hardly call this a "ton of negativity." There's some good El Duque banter in here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...amp;btnG=Search
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) I welcomed the Pods for Carlos trade, because I hated our lift and pull approach. I was sickened watching Carlos Lee hit what he thought was home runs shots, only to get thrown out at 2nd trying to put on the fake hussle. Between him and Valentin who I didnt like the most was hard to figure out. Carlos was fine, until he and Walk worked on turning him from the guy with the long hitting streak ripping doubles all over the park driving in runs, to a monolithic home run hitter who had some sexy numbers but had a propensitity to fall over trying to hit the dramatic homer, when we had a man on 3rd and less than two outs. Now of course hindsight is 20/20. I was hoping that we would balance our all or nothing hitters with some smart line drive types that would get on base, and would hit to all fields. I was a huge proponent of AJ, whom I thought would be a doubles machine hitting to the left side a lot. I never thought how much the offense would sicken me the entire 2005 season sans the playoffs. Before Pods was traded, we were all talking about Frank Catalanato as a possibility for left because of his line drive abilities. The big debate before that season was if we were going to sign Dye or Hidalgo. It was a wash at the time on which would be better, now of course it seems that we won that in a landslide. Man I loved that AJ move, I remember getting into my car on the way to work (probably 3:40pm or so) and hearing George Offman report that AJ had been released by the Giants. I jumped up out of my old Imperial and yelling to my brother on the other side of the front lawn "WILLIAMS BETTER f***ING BRING HIM IN!". Williams bringing AJ in for an interview to see if he was "White Sox material" was just too perfect, of course AJ aced that exam. That was the one move before '05 (Dye right behind that) which I absolutely LOVED at the time and I first started getting optimistic about the 2005 season after that.
  19. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) Agreed, I think Russell stays. It'd be odd to send him down just a couple days after Ozzie made those comments about him. It would be criminal to send Logan down. That's what I thought too but outside of Russell I'm really not sure who's getting cut. Possibilities (11): Danks, Floyd, Russell, Masset, Aardsma, Haeger, Logan, Sisco, Terrero, Anderson Perez Not getting Cut (4): Danks, Floyd, Masset, Logan That leaves 7 guys and 3 have to go Probably not getting cut (2): Anderson and Terrero That leaves 5: Russell, Aardsma, Sisco, Haeger, Perez I really don't know. Ozzie is far too unpredictable to even take a stab at this. Or is he just way too predictable that he gets you to over think the situation?
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:36 PM) Mackowiak for Brady Clark rumor in tomorrow's Tribune. It makes a ton of sense. Yeah I'd probably make that deal. It's an incredibly loaded proposition though.
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) kinda funny how I didn't mention any of that. All I am saying is don't turn your back on the whole organization. I really don't care if you hate a player, but I hate it when people make it sound like a fact when they say something sucks. Like everyone is saying Pods sucks and Erstad sucks, like it is a fact. I'll except that offer you made me kalapse. Even though I am not that optimistic, I just have faith in the team. Yeah, I'm not surprised that you didn't mention any of that in your post because to be honest I didn't read it because I don't really care. It was more of a general post about a certain subject that tends to piss me off. How about you don't tell me what to post and what sort of feelings I should be having and I'll extend the same to you. Flash basically said everything that needs to be said. I don't often post things like 'Pods sucks' because I think that's pretty childish and stuff like that brings down the collective IQ of the board IMO. If I do post something like that though it's usually backed up by an argument heavily weighted in statistical evidence not just some bulls*** whim or 'gut feeling' I have at the time. It's kind of tough to distinguish the difference between fact and opinion at times so perhaps some of the posts you've read which you've taken as fact are actually opinions in disguise as facts. Perhaps you shouldn't take everything you read so seriously? Oh, yeah. I feel I must say this I am not crucifying the whole team by any means. I f***ing love Jermaine Dye, he's great. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) It's almost the lazy persons why of tackling an issue. To say, "yeah, well, let's just wait and see." Sure, it's safe (as to avoid looking dumb later on) -- but boring and almost counterproductive to the purpose of a message board. Just state your opinion now, jackass!!~!!! Optimistic or not, I'd rather someone atleast contribute to the message board than spout some useless cliche. I guarantee for EVERY Williams deal someone within a thread brings it up. Although it's more commonly associated with controversial trades (such as Garcia and McCarthy) where, rather than admit perhaps it didn't meet their expectations, someone will present the "wait and see" card. No. That phrase should be banned. Totally agree. I'd much rather read a million "Brian Anderson is bad and here's why *lists evidence*" posts than a hundred "lets just wait and see what happens when the season starts" posts. The Former may upset me a bit because I disagree with it but atleast that's an opinion backed up by a little evidence -- no matter how flawed it may be -- the latter on the other hand nothing but fluff to the discussion. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) And I have not told anyone to have optimism, all I am saying have a little faith in the organization, and don't turn your back on the team and say the team sucks. If you truly, genreally feel that, fine. I don't care. But for all the true die-hard sox fans, don't crucify the whole team just yet. Any fan that wants to agree with Baseball Prospectus or has the opinion that the Sox will miss the playoffs this season is absolutely 100% cool to say such things in my book as long as they're backing it up with a little evidence. If it's a flimsy bulls*** statement backed up by a gut feeling then yeah I get why that would be pretty annoying but as long as evidence is being presented I don't have much of a problem with it. Those who think the team is bad are fans just as much as you and I and I really don't see where we get off telling them to think otherwise. You're lucky you weren't around here towards the end of last season when the "soxhawks" and "sinkingship's" of the board took over with their negative talk, it probably would have really gotten to you.
  22. What's the fun in saying 'let's just wait and see' about every facet of the ballclub? That and unwavering optimism over every question mark the team has is just boring, I know I wouldn't want to read that day in and day out. Talk about a boring message board.
