  1. Just a couple quick comparisons I came up with off the top of my head: Alfonso Soriano through 394 career ABs: 98H | 55R | 25 2B | 9HR | 38RBI | .249/.280/.391/.670 Aramis Ramirez through 399 career ABs: 89H | 29R | 16 2B | 7HR | 38RBI | .223/.283/.326/.609 Brian Anderson through 399 career ABs: 88H | 49R | 24 2B | 10HR | 36RBI | .221/.281/.361/.642 Miguel Tejada through 400 career ABs: 91H | 55R | 21 2B | 10HR | 48RBI | .228/.293/.370/.663 Paul Konerko through 398 career ABs: 93H | 42R | 14 2B | 13HR | 48RBI | .234/.286/.372/.658 Troy Glaus through 400 career ABs: 93H | 59R | 26 2B | 12HR | 53RBI | .233/.301/.388 /.689 So yeah, Brian Anderson is pretty f***ed.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) So if you suck at the plate, and look clueless you are done and that is it. Too bad the Twins didnt feel this way about last years MVP who hit .239 in 05. Then again, people who struggle early on never turn into anything good. There were rumors of Morneau being dealt for Lyle Overbay just before the start of the '06 season. Being insanely impatient with talented players is just foolish.
  3. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:31 PM) Your spelling is lame. Seriously, this is a message board that has been going back and forth on the BA thing and there have been posts where I have made more than just a blunt statement. Nothing wrong with summing up my opinion, and I would be happy to verbally state why I think this way perhaps when im not at work. Some of us can't sit on here all day every day and play GM. Attacking spelling is the epitome of grasping at straws. QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:31 PM) Your spelling is lame. And if your definition of 'summing up' is "he sucks and looks like a little b**** at the plate" then yeah I really can't take you seriously.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) Talk about pulling no weight what so ever. I really can't take a person like that seriously. Come up with a new line outside of "he sucks". I may dislike a player like Podsednik but atleast I'm able to convey my dislike for him in a more creative an adult way than "he sucks and looks like a scared little b****." It's seriously amazing how little patience some people have in young players. Not everyone succeeds right off the bat, a whole lot of good baseball players fail early in their career before adjusting to the advanced competition. If John Danks wins the 5th spot this year and s***s his pants, I fully expect him to get the same treatment that Anderson and to a bit lesser extent, McCarthy have received. Have some patients, the 2007 season is not riding on the success of Brian Anderson but the future might. Atleast that's how KW has set it up. Hyperbole is also insanely lame. And once you start correlating fans showing faith in a young player who struggled offensively in his first year in the bigs with anointing said player a god, you've completely lost it in my book.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) I am sure that Robin Ventura would of looked like a nervous b$%^& at the plate when he hit .179 and .249 in his first 2 season. I am sure that you would of crapped over him and wanted him moved. But then again hindsight is 20/20. Talk about pulling no weight what so ever. I really can't take a person like that seriously. Come up with a new line outside of "he sucks". QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) Ok, I'll stop, I didn't know he was the next Robin Ventura. Does anyone here realize that what Robin did is rare? In other words, not the common. Why don't we just have one thread title "BA is God" Hyperbole is also insanely lame.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) or Danks can flare out, Masset's arm can fall off, and McCarthy can harness his outstanding curve and change and continue to work on his 2-seamer, turning himself into a top of the rotation starter. Or the Rangers team could be contracted and McCarthy ends up right back with the Sox. It's been 3 f***ing months, little early don't you think?
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) More ominous comments about Anderson making MLB roster http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Podsednik is also playing in a B game tomorrow and should be good to go by Friday. Brian's chances are not looking good right now.
  8. I assume Jason Kendall is a grinder. Marcus Giles?
  9. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) Well, since we're 'splainin': it would then get tossed into a thread tangentially just to see what sort of a brawl would result. It was awesome. My finest moment? I hope not.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) The funny thing about mentioning grinders is that if we used our collective brains last year, we would have guaranteed that Erstad would be on the White Sox. What other players does Hawk gush over about their all-out hustle? Darin Erstad has been destined for the Sox since the day KW was hired. That s*** was inevitable.
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) I love it. We need catchy nicknames. More likely, Brian Anderson. Darin "The Anomaly" Erstad. Aaron "The Fence Eater" Rowand.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) Our first obstacle would theoretically be to quantitatively measure grinderness, but the same people who would buy such a guide are already wary of numbers. Thus, we need pictures and flowery descriptions. How about a comic book depicting Eric Byrnes, Darin Erstad, Aaron Rowand etc. as super heroes? I mean, in these people's minds these players already have super human powers such as the ability to immediately turn any s***ty team into a winner just with their presence alone (despite their below average production) and how their play on the field actually transcends statistics. If you're going to appeal to the lowest common denominator you might as well go all out. Maybe a pop-up book.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 11:06 PM) Kalapse, I would like to enter into talks with you about the production of The Grinder Handbook. It's basically a Grinder Index for grinders. Do you realize what kind of unchartered territory we're entering here? Just think about it for a second, there are hundreds of books out there that are considered excellent forms of reference for baseball fans who believe statistics are a huge part of the game. The people who often write off such publications as hogwash and completely ignore SABRmetrics and such are in fact the same people who believe in the notion of 'Grinders' and the soon to be formed religion 'Grinderism' (oh it's happening). So what if we could provide these stat non-believers with a statistic of their own that proves their idea of 'Grinders' as fact? The result? Lucrative?
  14. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) What does that have to do with worms? *not following this* "can of worms" is a figure of speech meaning "A source of unforeseen and troublesome complexity." For years posters such as "The Cheat" (AKA GeneHondaCivic) have challenged the belief that White Sox starting pitcher Mark Buehrle is an ace much to the dismay of many fellow Sox fans. This opened the proverbial "Can of Worms", if you will.
  15. Wait can pitchers be considered grinders? Oh my, time to update the "Grinder Index". I have to find a place for Mike Fetters, he always had the look and production of a grinder.
  16. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) I only meant to speak for the majority of sox fans, not the all knowing "Kalapse." I reluctantly accept your pathetic apology. Don't let it happen again.
  17. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) I don't get it. "worms" ???!!? Mark Buehrle is not an ace.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) I'll vouch for fathom on this one; I clearly recall him saying "Out of anyone, Freddy Garcia would be a guy who could magically refind the velocity on his fastball during his contract year." or something to the extent. He mentioned it several times You mean like this? QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) I love the logic of the people who make this crap up about how we should do this, or how we should trade Mac and other bullpen help for Lieber. We ditch players for prospects so in the end, we can turn those prospects into a 37 year old pitcher who isnt that good, and a 4th OF that is famous for smashing his face into the fence. The only good thing about this possibility, is that the Twins, Tigers and Indians might have multiple players on the DL when they all get into a fight at the bat rack. I still have no idea why anyone would even want Lieber, I mean why would his name even surface to begin with? Oh yeah it's another case of "retardedchicagosportswriterthrowings***atthewalltoseewhatsticksandpeoplejumponititus" sweeping the board. If there's a single person on this board who thinks it would be a good idea to trade prospects for Jon Lieber can I please get a brief explanation of why you feel this way?
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) Lieber will get freakin rocked in the AL. He had an near 5 era in the NL. Making this trade would be counter productive. 94 ERA+ last season and he'll be 37 years old in this year. I'm sure he'd do just fine.
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) I can't recall a single time you saying that once, let alone more than three times. I'll vouch for him then (not that it matters at all). I was involved in most every Garcia discussion on the board last year, especially game threads and that is one thing that we agreed on. It was the only reason I could maybe tolerate having Garcia in the rotation in '07, I do expect him to put up better numbers this year. He just seems like that sort of guy.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) Agreed. I liked him. Are you serious? Q doesn't post anywhere near as much as Jabroni did. Not even close. lol. Jabroni would've passed up Gage months ago if he hadn't stopped posting or gotten banned last year. At one time Qwerty had by far the highest posts per day rate in board history, even higher than Jabroni. Qwerty just stopped posting.
  22. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) Always a good laugh to go back and read some of the posts from when Thornton was acquired. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47754 I didn't make a single post in that thread. Very odd. I usually make an appearance in every trade thread. Such as the Thome one. Ick.
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Man, what happened to Jabroni? He was on his way to surpassing Jason and SS2K5 for total posts. I always thought he was a damn good poster, even when he came back the second time under an assumed name. He just go in way too many petty quarrels which led to his demise.
  24. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) there was no way they were going to be nearly that good again, but I didn't expect them to put up a combined ERA of like 38.72. That was mildly surprising for me. Did you expect them to completely bomb like they did? Just honestly curious of course Cotts? No. Politte? Yes. I predicted after the '05 season that Politte would not be a on the big club come August either throw injury or ineptitude. Cotts I had my doubts with but I never imagined he would be that bad.
