  1. This deal could turn out great for the Sox if the price is right. This way they not only avoid arbitration for all 3 years they'll also have a team option for Mac's first year of free agency keeping him under White Sox control for the next 4 seasons.
  2. No #'s released yet but the Score is reporting the Sox will be avoiding arb for the next 3 seasons with Mac.
  3. 3 things. 1.) Zito will not be leaving the west coast unless it's for New York. 2.) He will be receiving a $100M+ contract 3.) He will also get atleast 6 years from someone, the White Sox refuse to go more than 3 years with their own pitchers why would they do so for Zito? He has a 1.40 Whip as a 28 year, I hate to imagine what that will look like when he's 34 and making $20M a year.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) So what you're saying is that they have both performed well in leagues over AA? I've never seen the words 'neither', 'nor' and 'never' in the same sentence before, I was impressed.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) I can't believe people think Floyd is such a lock to make the 25 man roster next year. They must be seeing different stats than I am. If we are to believe anything that is said by the men running the White Sox organization then yes it looks like Floyd will be on the 25 next year, he's not a lock but I'd give him better than even odds that he makes the big club out of spring training.
  6. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Do you realize that neither Gio nor Floyd have NEVER performed well at a level higher than AA? Floyd has gotten a number of chances in the majors and failed repeatedly. He's still got work to do in the minors. Gio is young for AA and still hasn't mastered that level yet. Neither of these guys are ready for the majors. Sure, they may get pushed into major league duty, but there is NO evidence that they are ready to be even mediocre in the majors. If either of these guys plays a "major roll in Chicago next year," we're in big trouble. I never said it was a good idea, in fact I said it's probably a foolish one. I was just relaying what Coop has stated and what he obvious course of action would be with Floyd. Floyd will be starting the year in the majors as of right now so you should probably be ready for that one.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) One option remaining. Can we dump pollyannas from the bandwagon? Solid, always comming through in the clutch.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Don't know for it sure, but I've heard one. He's been called up to the majors 3 times, but the first time was a September call-up...Cheat posted about it over at SSS. Its good news to say the least Yeah, I'm pretty sure the September callups don't count as wasted options so I only counted it as 2 callups. I'll have to do a little research I suppose.
  9. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) Now I suppose Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd are worth more than we gave the M's, but dumping the guy who beat the Tigers 4X last year and won 17 games for us to acquire two guys that are unlikely to even play for the Sox in 2007 seems a tad ridiculous. Actually there's probably a 98% chance that Floyd makes the 25 man roster next year either as the last guy in the pen or in the rotation if another starter is dealt and as Coop said yesterday on the radio Gio will be battling for a bullpen spot on the big club in Spring Training next season. If Gonzalez dominates in March you just might see both he and Floyd playing major rolls in Chicago next year, which probably isn't the best way to go but seems to be a fairly realistic scenerio. Does anyone know Floyd's status option wise? I've heard from a few people that he is out of options which doesn't sound right seeing as how he's only been up twice.
  10. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) In jerry's words about resigning pitchers currently on team I read the quote a few times I still don't see anything in there about not having a $100M+ payroll again next season and in the forseeable future. He didn't want to re-rign Garcia, which I don't blaim him for (I sure as hell wouldn't have given him $12M+per), he made what I believe to be a facetious regarding Buehrle's Cardinals fandom and then said you have to jump on the sort of deal the Sox made for Garcia which was getting good young power arms for a guy whom they had no intention of retaining beyond the '07 season. Jerry is going to spend money, he has yet to say otherwise.
  11. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Tell the fans a million times payroll is tied to attendance then renig and save all the cash is BS, money needs to go back into team as promised over and over! And it is, where has it been stated otherwise?
  12. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) For a split second I thought about posting this story and titling it "Uribe dead in car crash". Then I realized I enjoy my time here too much to lose it. SFF Good judgement on your part.
  13. Perhaps a Joe Crede could pique their interest if a Wilson Betimit isn't doing it for them at thirdbase.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:49 AM) Atleast Phil won though. Barely edging him out in the total base suckitude category, Rod Carew put up .200/.291/.300/.591 in 4 trips to the postseason, losing every series he was in. When it comes to slugging Dave Winfield is one of the greats of the game, it's a damn shame however that he had to screw over his Yankee teammates in the 1981 world series by going 1 for 22 with 4 Ks in the series. The Yankees were unable to overcome their superstar's suckitude and lost the series in 6 games to the Dodgers. Too bad Winfield's postseason ineptitude does not end there, the man also owns a career .208 batting average and .641 OPS in October baseball.
  15. Appearantly Brian Peters and Greg Genske, Vernon Wells' agents are looking at Well's impending free agency as a way of making their mark in the game of baseball. They appearantly will be looking for a $20M+ per year contract over atleast 6 seasons, so yeah I don't see the Sox trading for Vernon anytime soon.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:32 AM) You know who would be in complete agreement with you? Two-time MVP Joe Morgan. It's just too bad he couldn't quite get it done in postseason play: .182/.323/.348/.671 Pee yew, something stinks Phil Rizzuto has played in the 6th most postseason games of all time, there's also a purdy bust of him in Cooperstown, appearantly the voters didn't notice that Phil owns a .295 career post season slugging percentage. Anyone with that few total bases in the world series couldn't possibly be considered for baseball immortality now could he?
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:13 AM) And Dick Allen (no, not that Dick Allen, but the player) had a .912 career OPS. Unfortunately, the only thing he could do was get on base, posting a .222/.417/.222/.639 line in the postseason. Speaking of dicks, Mark McGwire appeared in 42 postseason games, he probably would have been better off staying home however seeing as how he owns a career .217/.320/.349/.669 line in postseason play.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:03 AM) Ty Cobb never won a World Series...I wonder why? MAYBE CUZ OF HIS .262 CAREER POSTSEASON AVERAGE, yeah thats why (he actually was an asshole though) Do you know who wasn't an asshole? The man who broke the color barrier, Jacky Robinson. There was one barrier however that he just couldn't seem to crack . . . his inability to come through when it mattered the most, his .234/.335/.343/.678 career postseason line is hardly Hall of Fame caliber.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:54 AM) Ted Williams sucked, .200 batting average in the only series he ever played in. Didn't he realize he was never going to get another shot? Maybe Willie Mays should have spent a little less time worrying about the long ball and a little more time working on improving his terrible .660 career postseaon OPS.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:49 AM) He must have been a dick in the clubhouse...what a cancer. Stan Musual? .259 career BA in the postseason also, selfish player.
  21. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:35 AM) Yup, until the WS between the Giants and Angels, Barry Bonds had done nothing in post season play either and before last year, Big Frank had that to his credit too. But that does not mean you do not go after those players who can be the big piece to the puzzle that is winning it all as a TEAM. Mike Schmidt accumulated 548 career HR, 10 gold gloves, 3 MVPs, 6 silver sluggers, 12 All-Star appearances, a hall of fame bust a ring and a career postseason line of .236/.304/.386/.690.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) Roughly a $100 million payroll in 2006, in the upper third in the league. He really needs to spend $200 million though if he wants to continue competing. 2006 White Sox Payroll: $102,875,667 good for 4th in all of baseball behind NYY, BOS and $750,000 behind LAA.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:28 AM) Hence why bringing in a lefty reliever should be a priority right now. No way do I want to start Gio's arbitration clock this season (unless he dominates and deserves a callup later on). I agree completely, it's just impossible to get a feel for what this front office is trying to accomplish when you can't believe a damn thing they say in the media. If we were to believe what KW/Coop have said about the pen this lately then the last 2 spots will likely be filled by Floyd/McCarthy/Logan/Tracey/Heager/Gonzalez.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) If he ever hit free agency, he's a player I'd want the Sox to throw billions of dollars at. I would have to agree with you on that one, I believe he's right up there with Johan talent wise (nowhere near as smart of a pitcher however) and if he could harness his stuff, fine tune his control and calm the f*** down he should win some hardware in the near future.
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) If Gio starts the year in AA B-Ham he'll dominate. Repeating the level and moving to a really good pitchers park are 2 factors for that. But it's conceiveable the Sox could start him at Charlotte if they want to move him quickly. I'd let him start at B-Ham and build up some momentum 1st though. Well Coop said on the Score today that he'd like for Gio to tryout for a bullpen spot this Spring Training, this leads me to believe that the lowest level we'll be seeing Gonzalez at next season is Charlotte. Of course this could just be Coop talking out of his ass but you never know.
