  1. I don't think there's anyway the Cubs allow Carlos Zambrano to hit the open market, though it would definately be best for him if he did. Imagine the killing he could make in free agency.
  2. I wonder if he could even make it through a major league season without the assistance of leaded coffee.
  3. Derek Jeter loves all his teammates equally . . . or does he?
  4. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) On the open market, provided Buerhle has a good year, you are correct. However, given that the White Sox prefer to sign their players before then, and their pitchers, to 3 year deals of late, I don't think $12 million a year, or maybe something starting at $12 milliion would be totally ridiculous - espeically if Buerhle wanted to stay here. I said 3 years, 36 million, maybe 3 years 40 million gets done. Probably won't matter though as Williams is saying no more extensions. Why would Buehrle accept a 3 year deal when a lesser pitcher (and fellow lefty) in Lilly just got a 4 year deal from the Cubs? Even if Mark has an average year next seaon he'll still be looking at huge years and a large total contract. Gil Meche is about to get 4 years and $11M per while being half the pitcher Buehrle has been over the course of their careers. In this market Buehrle would be looking at 5 years/$14Mper to start and going up from there. He's healthy, a lefty and has a great proven track record, he would destroy in this market. If he's looking to cash in on his first opportunity at the FA market then I don't see any reason why he'd even be willing to think about re-signing with the Sox.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) ^^^ I've become ok with the Garcia trade. Bonds would push me way over the edge... It's funny when you actually give it some time, cool down and take a look at the deal as a whole it doesn't look all that bad. Of course I am capable of convincing myself of anything so I could just be kidding myself right now.
  6. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Sorry, man. I'm just going off what I know. I admit I'm a Cards fan and I'm a bit partial. But I'm mainly just making a general point. I'm not proposing we get rid of Javy and Get Mulder right now, I'm just saying that if he was healthy and efficient, there's no comparison; I'd take Mulder over Javy any day. As would most anyone who's ever seen the 2 guys pitch, the problem is that scenerio is no where near reality.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:26 AM) I think that it makes more sense to be reactionary in this thread than in that one, but even still, it's really, really hard to predict the future when you're grabbing 23 year old pitchers. I just hope to Zoroaster that Floyd makes this trade worth while. You have to remember, I was one of the biggest Rowand apologists around no matter how bad of an offensive player he was.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:26 AM) Nothing tops the Durham for Jon Adkins trade. You should put in your sig that the Sox will never go after Tejada...it's going to become tejadatalk.com around here. Yeah, I expect as much. Atleast I know not to take any of the Tejada rumors seriously so I can just shy away from that whole mess.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) If either of these guys comes together and has a very good year, and McCarthy has a very good year...this will be a very fun thread to bump. I'm actually pretty proud of myself that I've avoided saying anything reactionary or stupid in this thread seeing as how I was one of the first to post. That Thome trade thread wasn't exactly my best moment.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) Well, It's not the best deal I could have hoped for, but it's at least not the worst either. So where exactly did that Phil Rogers article get the quote from KW that says he's not going to resign anyone? Or is that just something Rogers is inferring (which, as far as I can tell, is the truth). He asked Williams point blank.
  11. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:46 PM) I don't have much of a problem with it, I guess. I would hope he wouldn't let ALL of them go. Maybe keep Buehrle and Garland around or something. We'll see, thats a long ways away. It's not a "long ways away" a decision on Buehrle's future would have to be made this offseason and Garland, next offseason.
  12. Appearantly Reinsdorf has now morphed into Jeffrey Loria?
  13. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Hes a Chicago native, good friends with Konerko, a favorite of KW... Why not sign Mulder, and trade Garland and someone else for an impact player... Maybe because Mulder was beyond dreadful last season, is comming off major surgery, will not be throwing a baseball until March 1st, will be available to pitch in June at the earliest and is only expected to make around 20 starts next season.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) Have any of you actually seen Gavin pitch? People need to stop acting like they know everything. Almost all of us hated when Freddy pitched last year. He couldn't throw 90 mph, he had a lazy attitude, he got in trouble for smoking the reefer, and he made $10 million. KW knows more than you. All of you. Actually I saw him in a number of starts last year, it was pretty damn brutal.
  15. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) The White Sox are among a couple of teams this week that have contacted the Orioles about Miguel Tejada. The Angels weren't one of them, according to the report. The Orioles probably aren't trading Tejada, though the Sun speculates they could be interested in package including Jon Garland, Juan Uribe and a top youngster. It's just getting worse and worse.... It'll never happen.
  16. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we're getting Vernon Wells... We no longer have the chips to make such a deal.
  17. QUOTE(G&T @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) They didn't sign for as much money as KW expected. Basically, the market wasn't quite as crazy as he was hoping...I guess. Lilly getting $11M per and Schmidt getting $16M is still f***ing crazy and more than either should receive.
  18. So does Floyd take that last spot in the bullpen, if not dealt this offseason.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) Wait, Guillen concerning himself with OBP AND recognizing the failures of Scott Podsednik in such a capacity? It's really amazing to read such quotes. Especially in the wake of addressing Mackowiak's time in CF. Atleast now I'm somewhat convinced he's capable of evaluating players beyond intagibles such as speed, clubhouse demeanor, or which hand a player bats with. Still have to work with him and McCarthy, though. Ozzie actually sounds like a semi-passable manager this offseason (McCarthy aside), it's beginning to frighten me.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) Well I could have but since my name wasn't mentioned, I will not. And since my name was mentioned (feeding my ego quite nicely) I will close this thread for exactly 60 seconds then open it back up again so 20 or so more people can say how horrible this trade is before the thread slides down the page and is forgotten forever. Well, that was fun.
  21. Well there's reports that the Yankees wouldn't even be willing to deal Sanchez straight up for Buehrle so those last 2 scenerios seem highly unlikley.
  22. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) Speak for yourself, I have a beautiful body.. and Yasny, are you tellin me if I was wearing some atheltic shorts and lets say they bunched up for some reason and my nuts were hanging out ide be arrested? For an accidental slip? I will vouch for this.
  23. Perhaps it just took 4 years for Ozzie to become a competent manager.
