QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) EVERYONE in the baseball industry knows that Zito won't sign during the season. I'll be shocked if he doesn't end up in NY next season. Exactly, he will without a doubt hit the market. He's looking at 5 years $70M in free agency.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) If you did "since the start of 2003" comparison for all our pitchers, he would statistically be our best starter. I'm not going to give up a couple top prospects and eat a ton of salary for a 2 month rental because he's the tallest midget.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Ummm... it happens plenty of times. See the Garcia trade. Yeah, he's Crede's agent as well. Are you willing to tell me we're not going to re-sign Crede? And besides, there was discussion here that Boras and JR seem cordial to one another. Boras is completely intent on testing the market with Zito, as he should. There will be a team out there who sees a 28 year old lefty with an excellent curveball and a Cy Young under his belt and they'll throw a huge 5 year deal his way. There is NO chance he would resign with the Sox during the season if he were traded here.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Sorry, you just don't trade your best position prospect for two months of a guy who's been slightly above average at best since 2002. Zito since the start of the 2003 season: 127 GS | 50 W 43 L | 3.82 ERA | 1.27 WHIP | K/9 6.4 | BB/9 3.6 | K/BB 1.81

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Zito is 10th in the AL in ERA. That's very good. Zito would instantly be our 2nd best starter. I wouldn't give up Anderson and McCarthy for him either, but anyone else is fair game as far as I'm concerned. With Crede here, Josh Fields can help us the most by serving as a trading chip. Broadway is projected as a 3rd or 4th starter, and I thought part of the rationale for that selection was to develop him quickly and use him to acquire parts for the ML team. As far as Zito's free agent status, I think we would have money to re-sign him if we wanted to do so. Zito's AL Ranks: ERA: 10th WHIP 24th K/BB: 39th BBA: 11th OBA: 36th SO: 14th And he's allowed the second most BBs (67) in all of the American League, only Daniel Cabrera has walked more batters. He is not the same pitcher he was in 2002. He has MAJOR control problems now a days.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if they're asking us to also take on some of their bad contracts, something like Kotsay-Zito for Anderson-Fields-Vazquez-Broadway-cash. Kotsay's been real bad this year. And that trade would be insanely counterproductive to the future of this ballclub, the Sox would be eating a spiff load of money and giving up 3 top prospects for a mediocre centerfielder and a 2 month rental player with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP that is hardly a shutdown starter, those are Buehrlesque numbers except with an insanely inflated WHIP. Zito is not a great SP.
-
QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) Well the DBacks and Yankees are picking up half of his contract for next year, we throw in a couple more million and he turns into a $4M bust. That is not true, Arizona kept a large portion of the cash they received from the Yankees and sent $4M to the Sox. Vazquez' contract goes with him, there is no cash attached to it, that needs to be negotiated as part of the trade.
-
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) Who cares? You get rid of one of Vaz/Garcia and free up a boat load of cash. Rent Zito and let him go at the end of the year and insert Mac. It makes perfect fishing sense. You would not be freeing up any money, the Sox would have to pick up most all of either's contract. Plus you're more than likely sending Fields/McCarthy to Oakland, you have to top a package that is centered around Milledge and basically that's the only way you're going to do it.

Bobby has now given up 9 ER in 12 IP this month after only yeilding a single run over 15 IP in June. Today was only his 5 save oppertunity for July after having 10 last month.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Great job Neal. At least Vazquez was decent. I can see why Ozzie was hesitant. Who put the 2 runners on base again?
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Let me join the sarcasm parade here ... great job by Cotts huh? Who knows how many runs Javy gives up if he's left in there, you can't leave him in to get killed, he has a history of completely imploding in the 6th, he should have been pulled before immediately following the HR.
-
Another horrible 6th inning.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Yeah. That 318 foot homer was really crushed. Doe is really matter how far it went? He gave up a run to start the inning just like expected and now the game is tied at 4 Fantastic..

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Dye's OBP is almost identical to Thome's, plus he has better speed. And is more likely to score from 1st on a 2b by Thome or PK. Not to mention, he is or best hitter for AVG..........That being said, I doubt Oz will make that change, but just a thought Maybe I just don't understand what it would accomplish, the last thing the team needs to do is juggle the 3-4-5 seeing how they've been more productive than any other tandom in all of baseball. Also, I wouldn't say Dye is even that much faster than Thome, Jermaine seems to have lost a few steps since last year, it seems he has a piano strapped to his back now a days.

About fishing time he goes to Neal, what took him so long?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) I didn't say Santana's career numbers. I said in his recent outings (meaning his last 10 starts or so). We destroyed him early on about three years ago, when they thought he had some arm issues. We ended up beating him like 16-7 in a game. He allowed 7 runs in his first outing Vs the Sox in '04, that basically killed his ERA Vs the Sox for the season.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) If the deal was Anderson and McCarthy for Jones, I'd seriously consider it. Jones is a superstar, and I think he still has some years left on his contract. He's a free agent after next year and will likely test the market for his final contract. He's not worth Anderson and McCarthy.
-
QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Am i the only one here who thinks we should rearrange our 3-4-5 to Dye-Thome-PK There's a reason why Jim Thome has the 2nd most runs in the AL and 4th most in baseball. It would be foolish to change the order like that.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) That ERA was actually much lower before last Tuesday's game. 1.21 Before Tuesday.
-
Johan Santana Vs the White Sox since 7/1/04 is 8-2 with a 1.44 ERA, 10.1 K/9, 1.7 BB/9 he's allowed a whooping 8 HRs over that time.
-
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Trust me he's on my hitlist, along with Bob Rohrman and Joan Cusack....their days are numbered.... If you so much as lay a finger on Bob Rohrman I will hunt you down like a dog and return the favor.
-
QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) low 1s? do you just make numbers up to prove your point? He's right, Santana's ERA Vs the Sox over the past 3 years is around 1.30.

Javy has made some beautiful pitches today.
-
And the speedy play by the LF pays off.
-
Wow, that was a beautiful pitch by Javy on the corner.
