  2. QUOTE(zygoat @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) well if someone critized chicago white sox, you would have ozzie and kenny b****ing you out for the next 3 weeks and no one would watch your show again That's just not true at all.

    QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) He got picked off, yes, but Conine likely (I cannot prove this, nor can anyone else really besides Conine himself) made a horrendous throw to second because it was rushed, which can be attributed to Pods' speed, or at least Conine's opinion of it. Actually it looked like Conine just held onto the ball too long, he had Podsednik dead to rights, he was only a little over halfway to 2nd base at the time and Conine made a Frank Thomas like throw, it really didn't look like he rushed it at all.

    QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) Wasn't a pitcher, but how about in Baltimore, when Chen picked him off and the first baseman rushed the throw to second because of Pods' speed, throwing it into the outfield? He got picked off, that is absolutely nothing to be proud of, Conine made a horrendous throw. More often than not the firstbaseman makes a decent throw and he's dead. I wouldn't be using him getting picked off as an example of how disruptive he is on the basepaths. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Sure, but he plays perfectly fine away, too. He's not elite though, he's a slightly above average firstbaseman on the road but a master of baseball godliness at home, in other words, a fraud.

    QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) His splits aren't as drastic as you're making them out to be: By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Away 808 132 253 67 2 28 108 169 8 122 2 2 .313 .433 .505 .938 Home 831 210 309 76 7 57 184 175 6 102 4 2 .372 .481 .686 1.167 That's over the last three years. Am I missing something here? That's still a difference of 72 HRs, 59 BA points and 229 OPS points. That's incredibly drastic a difference.

    QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) Even using that criteria there are certainly better choices, IMO. He's a fraud, he's a perfect candidate to be hated IMO, he's talked about like he's a sure fire hall of famer at times when in reality he is not nearly a hall of fame caliber player. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) Hence the reason you can like Caruso even though he hates me All the more reason to like Mikey.

    QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Wow. There are some better choices out there to be had, but to each his own. I care more about on field performance than a person's character but that's just me.

    QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) I He is without a doubt my least favorite player in all of baseball. .370 Avg. @ home in his career only .295 on the road also his Home OPS is 240 points higher than his road for his career. In other words he's a pretty decent 1B on the road but one of the greatest players in the history of baseball at home, odd. Jeffrey Hammonds 2000
  9. Jermaine Dye has a $6M team option next year, he currently has a 1.030 OPS. Anyone who doesn't think Jermaine Dye will be on this team next season is dead wrong.

    QUOTE(zygoat @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) I like gload and what he brings to this team, but i would like to see him starting someplace else. He only plays first base with us (his outfield sucks) and we have thome for that too. I would love to see him trade to the rockies, pirates, or royals for a starting job and get some prospects in return.
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) New month=New Mark Congratulations you can read.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) Lidge 2006 Salary: $3,975,000 Age: 29 ERA 5.77 WHIP 1.45 BAA .241 Vazquez 2006 Salary: $12,000,000 Age: 30 ERA 5.40 WHIP 1.36 BAA .275 We save some money as well. It would be nice. Um, you're only looking at one season, go ahead and compare the two using the last 4 seasons like the 2 GMs would. I guess Buehrle and Latroy Hawkins are also equals because their numbers are similar this season?
  13. Oswalt also has 1 year of arbitration remaining so he would not be a rental like a Schmidt or Zito. yummy
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:22 AM) In a heartbeat. Along with anything else they'd like out of the system. Oswalt would make me feel SO much better about this team.
  15. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) Ken Rosenthal writes that the Orioles and Astros had a deal on the table that would've sent Roy Oswalt, Adam Everett and a third player to Baltimore for Miguel Tejada, but it was killed by Peter Angelos. *** The Orioles are the worst run franchise in baseball. Two deals that favored the Orioles were both shot down. This is what it says on Rotoworld, from the same source (Rosenthal):
  16. Yep, the Wild Card looks a whole lot more realistic to me.
  17. HE'S BABY MANNY!! I hate Ron Belliard, I'm ecstatic that he's out of the division because I was sick of looking at him. He's a pretty good hitter with decent pop and a very nice glove. He should flourish in the National League, he also has a crooked cap so ugh he's got that going for him.

    Zito?

    QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) I know he's walked a ton this year but he's still found a way to get out of it. I'll agree that he'd most likely drive me nuts with the walks but it'd be worth it because he would be our 2nd best starter with ease this season. If it took McCarthy to get him then fine no deal but if there is a way to get him with out giving up Brandon we really have to try imo. Would you do this deal? Vazquez + $15M cash + Broadway + Fields for Zito?

    Zito?

    QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) While Zito might not be a great starter he's still pretty damn good and would easily be our 2nd best sp at the moment. I'm sorry but it's not fair to judge the guy from what he's been since 02 considering you then throw out his best season but his worst season which was clearly an aberration is still in that mix. Zito has had one below average season in career and besides that he's been pretty damn good. As far as the ballpark argument goes, well he has a better era away from Oakland than he does at home. If we could somehow get him without trading Brandon McCarthy then I hope KW jumps all over it. He will drive your ass nuts with the walks, he's similar to Contreras at the beginning of last season, you just know he's going to go ou there and walk 3-4 guys a game, constantly getting into jams. He's walked 66 batters this year, that's 2nd in the AL only to Daniel Cabrera. Also, I don't see any way you can get him without giving up McCarthy.

    Mackowiak

    QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) We don't need an OF on our bench...we need to stop putting our best defensive outfielder on the bench. That's not going to happen. Ozzie will continue to sit Brian once every 3 games like he has for most of the season so it's KW's job to cater to Ozzie's idiocy. You give him a guy who actually knows how to play defense in CF and can hit a little, you force Ozzie to put a good defensive player out there at a key position day in and day out.

    Zito?

    QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) FWIW, the Sox would probably get two draft picks for Zito, as (if the trade went through), the Sox would almost definitely offer him arbitration. In essence, the trade would be: Two-three months of Barry Zito + two top 40 draft picks for Garcia + Cash + Broadway + Fields (minimum) I think the better bet would be waiting in the offseason to deal Fields. The Sox have two known teams who are after Fields in San Diego and Philly. Make one of those teams pay a bunch for the guy they percieve as their future thirdbaseman. I really want to wake up tomorrow and see that the Sox have traded a combination of Haeger/Phillips and maybe Owens (??? -- a lesser prospect is what I'm getting at) for Brady Clark. I am right with you on all of this especially the last part. Brady Clark is the 1 player out there who I think fits this team ridiculously well and fills 2 huge needs for the team, possibly 3. He'd be a steady righthand bat off the bench, fill the 4th OF role and could possibly start over Pods if that's something Ozzie wanted to do.

    Zito?

    QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) Zito would be a rent-a-player. Who cares if we end up eating some of Javy's contract. Arizona and New York already are eating alot of it. If Oakland wants Javy, they can have him. Throw in a prospect and were good to go. With this case Beane hase a replacement for Zito as he leaves for free agency next year and we'll just rent Zito as we can then plug BMac into the 2007 rotation. THis trade makes sense for both clubs. 1.) "Arizona and New York already are eating alot of it." - Some day people will realize that this is not true. 2.) Vazquez plus "a prospect" is not getting it done. It would take Vazquez + the Sox eating ALL of his contract + I'd say Bmac for Zito. You have to top Milledge and I really think McCarthy is the only way you can do it.
  24. Mikey is also sporting a spiffy 1.53 WHIP this year. The guy has no control of his pitches, I have no clue how he keeps his ERA so low.

    QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Also, I can't for the life me imagine why someone who is willing to give up Josh Fields for Scott friggin' Linebrink wouldn't want to give up Fields and Broadway for Zito. I never said that I would trade Fields for Linebrink straight up.
