Schmidt

What would it take? Is he worth it? What are the Mets possibly offering?

Giants right-hander Jason Schmidt and, in something of a shocker, the Astros' Roy Oswalt

See, now, this has Kenny Williams written all over it. A player who will be here beyond this year, is in his prime, and would immediately upgrade the part of the team that the Sox are supposed to be best at.

Yikes, I'd probably trade our top three 'spects (Fields, Sweeney, and Broadway) for Oswalt. They can have Garcia, too.

What is JS contract status?

Free agent at year's end, I believe.

Jason Schmidt Contract:

4 years/$30M (2002-05), plus $10.5M 2006 club option

club exercised $10.5M 2006 option 10/05

$7.75M signing bonus (paid over 4 years, 02-05)

02:$4M, 03:$5.75M, 04:$8.5M, 05:$8.75M,

06:$10M club option ($3M buyout)

$50,000 All Star incentive

1 year/$3.2M (2001), plus $0.8M in incentives

agent: Alan Hendricks

ML service: 10.063

The Mets would be foolish not to trade Milledge and whatever if they could land Oswalt or Schmidt. They're almost a lock to get to the World Series as is. Adding one of those two would not just make them a lock to get there, but actually win.

In a heartbeat.

Along with anything else they'd like out of the system. Oswalt would make me feel SO much better about this team.

I think the Astros hate us too much to deal Oswalt to us. Even if we presented them with a good offer.

If they trade Oswalt for prospects, Clemens will almost certainly be traded aswell.

Oswalt also has 1 year of arbitration remaining so he would not be a rental like a Schmidt or Zito. yummy

I would give McCarthy, Fields, Sweeney, whoever they'd like for Oswalt. And then give him a 100 year deal.

I would do that as well. The O's were looking to trade Tejada with Oswalt being the centerpiece of the trade, then flip him to someone for young players. I would flip BMAC and fields for him easily.

Wait, people would actually trade Bmac? I can't believe it. I like the guy just as much as anyone else, but the way Soxtalker's feel about him, they think he is the next Roger Clemens or Sandy Koufax. Besides a deal for Oswalt, is there anyone else we would trade BMac to? I've been pondering this thought for a while. He isn't worth Soriano or Tejada to most people here, so who is he worth?

I think most people are opposed to trading pitching for offense.

I'd trade him for Albert.

Soriano just isn't worth McCarthy, especially considering the fact that Soriano likely won't resign here, and his defense is miserable. I also don't see the point in trading for Tejada, since Juan is more than capable of handling shortstop, and much cheaper and better at defense. If we want to compete, we need to have enough money to bring in quality players and if we traded for Tejada, I doubt we'd have enough money to really do much. As fathom mentioned in another trade, we already have ~$100 million wrapped up in 13 or so players next year.

Oswalt is probably a better pitcher than BMAC will ever be. I would trade BMAC for overpriced middle infielders who have lost a step in the field, nor a rental LF'er. We also dont need offense, our offense is great. We need pitching in the worst way.

I wouldn't say we need pitching in the worst way...what we need is for the staff to get their heads out of their poopers and get back to what made them successful last year. Pitch quickly, inside and with confidence.

As for Kenny: pitching for pitching...offense for offense. I believe that is his stance and I agree.
