  1. *Per the Score: Ozzie Guillen will be fined an undisclosed amount of money and will have to take some sort of sensitivity training.*
  2. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) People have the Twins in the back of their mind because of their pitching. While they will not contend for the division they can still be a b****. They could seriously play a part in someone not making the playoffs or force a team to settle for the wild card simply because of the unbalanced schedules. They're going to play everyone tough with their new found offense and 2 stud lefties.
  3. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) Just What I want. Digging through a 100 page thread to read news about Ozzie. Guess , Ill just have to get my news from espn again instead of spending an hour digging. There's no reall news either, it's pretty much just bickering back and forth about the same Guillen/Mariotti issues that have been discussed ad nauseam over the past 2 days.
  4. This thread is going absolutely nowhere. Time to put it out of its misery. The getting personal crap has got to end.
  5. QUOTE(valponick @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) My original info was per Bruce Levine on ESPN radio.....I just got back in my office from lunch so I haven't heard anything else about it. Levine could have been wrong, it's not like it'd be the first time. Yeah, Rotoworld ran with Levine's report too. Seems Bruce had some bad information.
  6. Um, Ozzie only got one game per David Schuster of the Score.
  7. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Precedent? Hmmm: Astros Manager Suspended For One Game ( Air Date: 5/22/2006 ) The Houston Astros are in Washington to face the Nationals Monday night, but they`ll do it without manager Phil Garner. Garner is serving a one game suspension handed down after the May 16th game with the San Francisco Giants when he and pitcher Russ Springer had been warned about intentionally throwing multiple pitches at Barry Bonds in the top of the fifth inning. +++++++++ New York Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson was suspended five games by the commissioner’s office yesterday for intentionally throwing at Cleveland’s Eduardo Perez on Wednesday night. Johnson is expected to appeal the penalty, allowing him to make his next scheduled start Monday in Philadelphia. New York manager Joe Torre was suspended for one game. The Springer situation was under extraordinary circumstances and Randy Johnson did not hit anyone. If Randy Johnson had actually hit a batte instead of just pitching inside the suspensions would likely be different. You know what, I'm beginning to think 2 games may have been excessive while Riske could very well have gotten off lightly here, last year Riske was suspended 4 games for hitting Ichiro, Wedge only got 1 game for that. 2 years ago Salomon Torres hit a batter in a similar situtation and McClendon got 1 game. Also, last year during a D-Rays/Red Sox brawl that started because of HBPs, Fancona and Pinella buth got 3 games, but that was a bench clearer so the situation is different. I'm going to keep looking around but it seems 2 might be a bit much.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) There were plenty of people here who didn't think this team would choke last september. I seem to recall a certain avatar . . .
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Can I ask what the precedent is, kalapse? I just seem to recall most of these suspensions being only a game. I remember 2 game suspensions for managers after batters were hit with both teams being warned. Of course I have been wrong about these things before, I'll try to look a few of them up and see what has been dealt out in the past.
  10. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) I'm agreeing with you, he's lumping everyone together right there when probably the majority of Sox fans had faith that they'd hold onto the lead last year and not relinquish down the stretch.
  11. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) Kalapse is wrong, IIRC. They only suspend you for days if it's a drug violation. Yeah, you're right I totally confused myself right there.
  12. QUOTE(zach61 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) From what I remember about Ditka, he brought the attention to the team. From what I'm seeing with Ozzie, he takes the attention off of the team. I like how the media is all caught up with Ozzie insulting a group of people when that same group of people aren't even allowed to get married, instead of Anderson hitting under .200, or Anderson being suspended, or Thome in a bit of a slump, or Pods in a pretty big slump and not making plays in the outfield. Or what about the bullpen? What about Sean Tracey? All of that pressure has been removed by Ozzie calling Moronotti the F** word. I believe that Ozzie is dumb like a fox. Wow, I think you're giving Ozzie WAY too much credit here, the team has won 6 straight, 8 out of 9, is 21 games over .500, 5.5 games up in the wild card, second best record in baseball and have scored 33 runs the past 2 days Vs the second best team in the NL. There isn't a whole hell of a lot of negative things for Ozzie to be covering for right now and if anyone is going to be b****ing about any of those things right now (with the exception of Pods maybe) then that's just incredibly petty and I doubt the players would even care. I think he just called a guy a *** and a piece of s*** because he dislikes him, nothing more, nothing less.
  13. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) I can't speak for anyone else, but I did not think that. ^^^ Talk about a crazy ass generalization right there.
  14. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) They're lumping in a punishment for Ozzie saying "***." They can't do anything to him about that because of the first amendment, but they can smack him down with his suspension for a previous problem. The fact that he's getting two games is a direct result of him calling Moronotti a "***." No. Off days aren't games. As for the first part of your post, 2 games is the norm for this situation. They suspend players for days not games.
  15. Totally to be expected, absolutely nothing surprising here. There is a precedent and this certainly follows it.
  16. QUOTE(zygoat @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) ozzie is the man, and he will stay in chicago. If he leaves, the rest of the white sox fans will leave with him No, that really would not be the case.
  17. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Okay, I'll give you that--he was over-the-top in that if he's characterizing all Sox fans as that type. But that incident was a black-eye on our park and our team. Especially since there were two. I'm starting to wonder though: are we immune to criticism? Is that what we think here? I'm one of the first poeple to criticise the Sox when it is called for, hell I've called Ozzie childish about 10 times over the past week but I really can't stand Jay, it has nothing to do with constant criticism because warranted critiqueing is something that I actually enjoy seeing but when I see someone throwing about unwarranted rippage and flip flopping it gets on my nerves.
  18. QUOTE(G&T @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) Here's what happened. Ozzie told reporters that after he found out they hit Duncan he called Duncan (pitching coach) and apologized. Duncan then called the Score (Mulligan) and called Ozzie a liar fr not calling him, but talking to him on the field. The Score had the cut of Ozzie talking, and a caller pointed out that Ozzie was really saying "told" not "called" and last I heard, Murph agreed with the caller and it was fairly obvious to me that Ozzie said "told." Duncan was PISSED off about everything that happened and also said that Ponson never threw at anyone intentionally, but Ozzie was a liar and told his pitchers to hit guys. Thank you for relaying the story.
  19. Duncan was not upset about Ozzie's "***" comment or even that his son was hit by a pitch, he understands that. He's just upset that Ozzie "lied" about calling the Cards during the game to apologize, though he seems what Ozzie said has been misconstrued. It's a "Jump to Conclusions mat". You see, you have this mat, with different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO. Perhaps we can avoid jumping to conclusions before hearing any part of the story?
  20. I only heard portions of it but it involves something Ozzie said on the field yesterday, Duncan thinks Ozzie said something along the lines of "I called over to the Cardinals during the game to apologize for his son being hit." Ozzie didn't actually say this though, or atleast that's what I was told, he just said that he was sorry for Duncan's son being hit but never actually said he called the Cards dugout. Duncan was upset that Ozzie "lied" and said that he doesn't like liars.
  21. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) And thats why SOX fans have always loved Oz, he is exactly like SOX fans. Hes one of us Ugh, maybe the majority of Sox fans or a great portion but I have very little in common with Ozzie Guillen, especially when it comes to the s*** he says.
  22. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) She was in a suite...they showed her before the game even started. So not only is she an attention whore, but she gets good tickets. Later in the game she came down to the lower level and sat in a seat right in front of some poor guy.
  23. I think a better comparison is Manny Ramirez. Just another episode of Ozzie being Ozzie.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:11 AM) Question, if you had to give up the same for Ichiro or Crawford (which is actually possible mind you), who would you prefer? Crawford: 24, LF, signed through 2010 (including options) Suzuki: 32, RF, signed through 2007 Crawford is a LF so there would be no problem with his postion if he were acquired, Ichiro on the other hand is a RF, would there be a problem getting him to play LF/CF? Crawford is also 8 years younger and is still getting better (insane potential). Crawford's contract is quite awesome as well, the contract escalates as the years pass but at its highest could only reach $11.5M which is the final year if all incentives are met. Give me Crawford.
  25. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) The Dugout's take on today's Around the Horn: http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/jon53.html Wow, I'm not sure I've ever disagreed with a damn thing they've said. That was excellent. oh_reali: But on the other hand, Jay Mariotti is kind of a worthless piece of s*** and often times when one tries to come up with a descriptor for such a man, one is at such a loss for words that he or she is prone to spew out any derogatory team that comes to mind. Awesome
