  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I guess I'm the only one who enjoys having Pods on the team. I know he's no gold glover, and I understand he's in a bit of a slump, but when he's hot our team is golden, and even when he's a little iffy with the bat he's still more than acceptable, IMO. I only like him 'cause he's cute, though. Both of these are incredible understatments, also most leadoff hitters have the same effect on the overall lineup of thier team. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Must we always b****? 8-2 in our last 10, coming off a sweep of the Reds at their place, preceeded by a 3/4 in Texas, and we are crying about Podsdenik tippy-toeing to balls in the OF. Amazing. Did you even read the thread? It's not just the fans b****ing, it's Ozzie as well and rightfully so.
  2. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) So, they expect somebody like King Felix or Liriano PLUS a stud prospect... or three or four... for Crawford? And anything else is "low-balling" them? GMAFB. :rolly No they really don't expect that much, Santana is seriously no where near the level of Hernandez or Liriano. They want a guy like Santana then another spect like Brandon Wood or 2-3 other lesser prospects which is a s*** load but in the end is about even. You are seriously under rating Crawford, a lot of players at his age are still in AAA, he's playing in All-Star games. They're asking for a large package of very good prospects for their stud OF, I wouldn't expect them to ask for any less.
  3. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) Ervin Santana has absolutely filthy stuff (7-3, 1.14 WHIP this season) and will probably be one of the better pitchers in the AL in a few years. There's no way that the Angels deal him, especially when he's dirt-cheap. Crawford is a base-stealing monster and plays good defense, but doesn't hit for power, strikes out way too much, and his .320 career OBP is very low for a top-of-the-order hitter. In other words, he isn't worth a future ace. You seem to be much higher on Ervin Santana than most people are, Jared Weaver is a much better bet than Santana to be future ace. Also, the it seems the D-Rays have been the ones who are reluctant to make any sort of deal involving Santana, they want more in return. It doesn't seem you've followed Crawford all that closely either, he's WAY better than you portray him to be. The guy is only 24 years old and already has a world of experience, he's improved upon his OBP big time this year, he's began taking more pitches and working counts nicely and thus has an OBP 41 points higher than his AVG which is quite an improvement for him. 2 things that will come with age for him is power (already has 10 HRs this year, it's amazing how his power has been improving over the past few seasons, 10 then 15 now he's on pace for over 20 also with age he is gaining plate discipline. As he continues to get ABs he's learning to work counts and take walks. The guy is turning into an absolute stud with an incredibly affordable long term contract, he'll be much more valuable than a guy like Santana in the long run if both of thier career paths go about according to plan.
  4. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Brian Anderson has a lot of talent, but this most likely isn't his year. He shows some great fielding and then makes rookie mistakes. He shows some clutch hitting on rare ocassions, but strikes out way too much. In fact, looking at his K's to AB ratio, if he were to play a whole season in the starting lineup and get around 500 AB's he would be on track to K about 180-190 times. Maybe next year will be different for him. But, with the hitters we have the team can afford to carry Brian, but if he doesn't show more I don't know if the second half will see him with the team or at Charlotte. Brian has just about solidified his spot on the roster as the starting CF, he's putting together some great at bats and playing the best defensive CF of any player in baseball (atleast according to BP). Iguchi is on pace to strikeout about 150+ times as well but no one questions it, he's not a struggling rookie or anything but I havn't heard a peep out of anyone about the very high amount of strikeouts he's racked up this year. Brian is still taking walks, keeping his OBP respectable considering his average. He'll be here all year, 'bout time you get used to him.
  5. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) From what I read those 8 home runs tied a Tigers franchise record. Leave it to the Flubs to give up 8 home runs. It's the second time the Cubs have done it this year.
  6. He was just removed from the DL after a 28 day rehab assignment, looks like he's got a spot in their pen, I doubt they'll take him off thier 25 man roster for the rest of the season. They're going to do everything they can to hold onto him.
  7. QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) Are you sure about that? If the Sox played in the NL, Thome would not be a factor (and if he played, then Konerko wouldn't). The fact is the Mets look damn good and are on par with the Sox and Tigers right now and the rankings reflect that. You also have to remember that the team would likely be built differently as well. We didn't have Thome last year did we? No, we had Everett and Thomas at DH which is hardly anything that I'd be upset about losing. The fact of the matter is, this pitching staff from top to bottom would absolutely dominate in the National League, there isn't a single staff in the NL that even comes close to the Sox and however the batting order would look, probably with Rowand in CF and Gio/Haigwood in the minors, I am certain this team would absolutely wreck in the NL.
  8. Barrett will begin serving today, hit suspension has been upheld, he'll have to sit out for 10 days and will be back on the 30th just in time to play game 1 Vs the Sox.
  9. Have you ever seen so much collective talent go to waste on one team?
  10. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) i agree to some extent...but give the mets a lot of credit. the sox havn't exactly played the toughest schedule. and detroit has flopped against the tougher teams The Sox play an infinately thougher schedule than the Mets simply by being in the AL, facing Detroit, Minnesota and Cleveland 19 times a year is so much harder than Philly, Florida, Nats and Atlanta. I don't put a whole lot of stock into strengh of schedule either, when you play someone means a lot more than who you generally play. You can catch a team when they're incredibly hot or when they're sucking ass, thier final record is not going reflect this.
  11. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:52 AM) Huh? That was a rumor that had Garland going to the Angels and Erstad coming to the White Sox. The Sox got Garland for Matt Karchner (sp?) from the Cubs back in 1998. Compare those two, you'll get an even better kick out of it. (the two who were basically traded for one another) This trade was just about done, Garland was on his way to Cali and Erstad was comming here, it was nixed at the last second, it was much more than just a rumor. Nearly would have been a better word than basically.
  12. Jon Garland has about a 100 ERA+ for his career as of right now, it doesn't get much more telling than that. He's incredibly average. Also Darin Erstad has a 97 OPS+ pretty similar huh.
  13. Wait, I forgot what league do the Mets play in? The Sox would have 50 wins easy if they played in the NL.
  14. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) It's not like Garland is 35. And it's starting to look like he's coming around the corner anyway. Not to mention NL pitchers have it easier, not pitching to a DH. Madsen has a big upside, but I think people give Garland the short end because he blew chunks for 2 months. Will you be saying the same if Garland gets that ERA under 4? Jon Garland was quite average in the second half of last season as well.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) I was just about to bring that back up. On Minny's offense, yeah it's bad, but at least they don't have Castro and Batista in the lineup anymore. Boy can Joe Mauer hit though. I looooove me some Joe Mauer (best catcher in baseball, I've said it a few times) but will he be able to keep up his prolific hitting for the rest of the season? He's still pretty damn young but those hot summer months tend to ware down catchers pretty bad especially with all the games he'll be catching in Chicago and Cleveland.
  16. If the Twins want to win 82 games this year they'll have to learn how to hit. Talk about offensively offensive.
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) That's awesome Garland hit a home run. Congrats to Garland. I wonder if it'll shut up some of those who think he's worhty of a Judy nickname. No Judy could hit a home run in a major league game. Garland was awesome today. Again. Allows four hits in eight innings, improves to 6-3 and hits a homer. Nice. :rolly
  18. Singleton was talking about Jon and his homerun trot in like the 3rd inning of the game. I believe Jon described it as "pure pimp juice", I saw no such thing today as he rounded the bases. I am sadened.
  19. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) and you know this how He hit a blast last year in interleague play.
  20. The Sox have an amazing habit of missing the best players of thier opponents, it happened non-stop last year and it's continued thus far this year.
  21. What did I say about the Reds series again?
  22. What we saw today was Garland earning his contract. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) wait..how many in a row has Garland retired? I missed what Hawk said. 13
  23. QUOTE(T R U @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Dude thats awesome, I called it earlier in the game chat We're like kindred spirits.
