  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Help me settle a debate. Garland and Contreras were both signed this off season. What's the soonest either could be traded? After the end of the World Series unless they waive their no trade clauses then they could be traded tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) that would be awesome doubt he'd want 2 tho he'll prolly want to go to the cardinals If the Sox offered him a contract through 2015 with all garuanteed money and something like $12M per year he'd be a fool to pass it up. It would also be one of the dumbest moves any team has ever made.
  3. There will be a total of 3 runs scored tomorrow.
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) speaking of aaron rowand, jim thome just homered again Yeesh, 8 HRs this spring and all of them have come at the end of Spring training.
  5. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Great points... but we can go back to the Rowand threads and see how many of you siad no way we trade the best defensive CF in the game! I was one of the few that said he was more than expendable at tha time, and kenny concurred in the offseason. Anyone who thought that Rowand would be with the team this year was dillusional. He was incredibly expendable and would bring a good amount in return in any trade. Many people including me were upset to see him go simply because he was a fan favorite but it was hardly shocking. You really can't compare Rowand to McCarthy.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) The thing with McCarthy is that he's far and away our best young pitching "prospect". Our organization has very little in terms of pitching prospect depth, and if we trade McCarthy, we're going to end up having to spend 50 million a year to piece together a 5 man rotation. Where as McCarthy is still under our control for years still and has the ability to match the productivity of anyone in our rotation.
  7. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Not at all Fathom... the kid has enough pressure on him. Just dont like the labels guys give these kids without substantional backing. I really Like Mccarthy, seen his MLB debut at Wrigley and he was the reason I went! Then why would you be so quick to whack a lable on a 19 year old pitcher? Felix Hernandez is still a teenager and you seem ready to lable him the second comming.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) How can anyone who watched the 2nd half of last season really have anything bad to say about McCarthy? He was our second best pitcher down the stretch, behind Contreras. Personal Vendetta?
  9. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) retrack? if he has all the tools, should it matter? Yes, it does matter, you go with the pitchers that have more experience if their ability is ~ to the 21 year old rookie. I don't see how McCarthy not starting in the postseason really has any relevance to this.
  10. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) I recall the Indians starting J. Wright his rookie season in the post season, and they were right on doing so as we were having mccarthy watch. The Indians also didn't have 4 studly veteran SPs in front of him in the rotation.
  11. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) Thats why mccarthy made post season starts? I'll take ozzies assesment of pitching thank you. McCarthy was also a rookie, it was only wise to have the 4 veterans starting in the postseason rather than a rookie fresh up from AA. That really has nothing to do with anything.
  12. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Dont want to start a Rowand thread like last year.. look what it got him.. a Philly uniform.. anyone can get dealt. Part of a business, you need to look at it that way. Its about winning now, not later... Rowand also doesn't have the talent of McCarthy and we have much more depth behind Rowand on the depth chart than behind BMac.
  13. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) His second half ERA (when he came back up from AAA after fixing his delivery IIRC) was something along the lines of 1.69. Now, without looking at the numbers, I believe that was better than what Contreras did in the second half of last year, yet everyone here seems to think Contreras is a Cy Young candidate. Yes, McCarthy - 1.69 ERA post AS break, Contreras - 2.96.
  14. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) 2 starts? come on man.. i like McCarthy also.. but beating Boston and the other quality start , doesnt make him the next Maddux. Hopefully for us he makes your prophecy come true. McCarthy had 6 quality starts last year out of 10. He also managed to give up a total of 7 ER over the course of his final 6 starts including two shutouts against Boston and Texas where he gave up a total of 5 hits combined in those two games with both of which being on the road. From what I saw from McCarthy last year, I don't want him going anywhere.
  15. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Funny how Pedro Martinez was labeled the same way.. Pretty damn good pitcher, yea hes hurt.. but look at Prior who has a better build than Mccarthy.. injury can happen to anyone. Pedro was also throwing in the high 90's with a changeup that was better than anyone had seen in a long time. Pedro's pure stuff cannot be compared to Gio even if they do have the same frame.
  16. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) Understood, just replying to the "total package" statement. Gio, has 4 quality pitches and a lefty, McCarthy 2 pitches with a change up that still in progress and he's he total package? Gio has also never thrown a pitch above high A ball and has not proven yet that he can stay healthy over the course of a full season.
  17. I'm also going to assume that Kip was not rushed out of AA ball, where he was never even able to throw a pitch in Charlotte before he hit the pros. And I highly doubt that Kip was able to match what BMac did in September of last year where he was mowing down very good teams and just making them look silly.
  18. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) What makes you think that hes the total package? If they can trade Gio and Young.. McCarty can go as well. Kip Wells had betetr numbers in his firts 7 starts than McCarthy. Because I've seen McCarthy pitch and from what I've seen he appears to be the real deal. It seems KW likes McCarthy comming out of the pen.
  19. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) Might get traded for a closer and a good one is my thought. I say there's no way in hell we move McCarthey, he's about 30 years younger than Contreras and has a couple years yet until he even hits arbitration. You don't just trade a player as awesome as McCarthy, he's the total package, ability, cost and youth.
  20. I wonder what this means for McCarthy, we have 5 more established starters signed through '07.
  21. Hey, it's popping up everywhwere now, good stuff.
  22. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Nothing on whitesox.com yet. I smell a lame April Fool's "joke". This has got to be a hoax.
  23. Anyone else having as my trouble as I am confirming this deal?
  24. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) I wonder if they are gonna go all out and do stuff that can't be done on TV. I highly doubt that, they'll keep it PG/PG-13 so they still get the young audience. They're out to make as much money as possible and keeping it PG-13 would earn them maximum profits.
