  1. BA snags the final out of the 2nd. Sox comming up.
  2. Count is throwing nothing but strikes today, he looks damn good. Picks up his 4th K on a nasty breaking ball. 2 down.
  3. Count picks up his 3rd K. 1 down. He looks just nasty today against these minor leaguers.
  4. Konerko lines out hard to left, Thome is stranded at 1st. 0-0 after 1
  5. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) thanks for keeping us updated... it is much appreciated Not a problem, this is my first sox spring training game that I've been able to see live so far this year so I'm a little amped. Thome walks, Konerko comming up with 2 outs.
  6. BA grounds out to short, 3-17 on the Spring now.
  7. I was right, Cora is the acting manager for today.
  8. Fields with a nice effort on the bunt but a bad throw and Pauly can't hold onto it.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Hmph, Tim Raines will be doing the managing today. Ozzie's in Venezuela opening the Sox's baseball academy. That's interesting, Reifert said Cora would be taking over as manager for today. - K for Contreras
  10. QUOTE(Scott Reifert @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 9:40 AM) Thanks, Carl We would like to thank Carl Everett for his public challenge to our team and public projection that we will finish third in the American League. I see it as just a little more motivation for us. (John Wayne photo added to blog as reminder.) Gotta love the line from Reifert's Blog this morning.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) Huge day for Borchard as well..... Yep, Gload has his day yesterday, today is Borch's turn to show what he's made of.
  12. The game will be broadcast on MLB.tv as well.
  13. White Sox Anderson, CF Uribe, SS Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Iguchi, 2B Widger, C Borchard, LF Fields, 3B - Contreras, SP Giants Lewis, CF Frandsen, 2B Nunez, RF Niekro, 1B Alfonzo, C Linden, LF Shabala, DH Chavez, 3B DeLaRosa, SS - Hennessey, SP Also slated to pitch: Cotts, Jenks, Politte, Lopez, Haeger and Logan. -------------------------- I gotta say this is the most excited I've been all spring when it comes to seeing a Sox game. Anderson, Borchard, Widge and Fields all in the starting lineup and I finally get to see Javier Lopez and Chuck Haeger pitch. Should be a very interesting game to watch.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) The only way I see Pods gone after this year is if he A.) Gets injuried again slowing him down, making him one dimensional or B.) Has such a great year that his value is so good that you have teams clamoring for him. isnt Pods still under team control for a few years. His only negative is he is a speed guy who is only getting older. Speed goes well before power. Owens should be picking Pods brain right now trying to learn as much about basestealing as he can. That's why I didn't say that he would be gone, only that it's more likely that he'll be playing somewhere else in '07 than Dye. I think the Sox would definately entertain the idea of moving him if he had a great year in '06 and Owens has another great year in the minors. There's a lot of teams out there looking for a leadoff man and Pods has gained some popularity around the league after last year. I'm sure if we have any needs going into the '07 season Pods could be a guy who could help fill them through a trade.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Jeckle. Ryan Sweeney. That's why I love you.
  16. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) My guess is that in 2007 we won't have Dye anymore and people like Sweeney and Owens will be competing for that RF spot. Pods, Anderson and one of the rookies will form the OF. Dye has a $6M option for '07 which is ridiculously affordable, it will almost certainly be picked up. IMO, there's a much better chance that Pods is gone after this season and we see Owens and Sweeney battle it out in Spring Training next year for the open spot.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) The one thing which still blows my mind is that people are to the point of showing more confidence in a rookie who's never played above AA than they are Anderson, who at least has put up good numbers in AAA. How exactly did people get THIS soured on Anderson? We've barely seen him take 50 at bats with the big league team including this Spring. Oh, and 1 more thing...Isn't Sweeney usually coming in at some point after the first few innings of these ST games...where he isn't always facing the opponent's starting, big league pitcher, but instead is often getting their backups/end of the roster/minor league guys? Hey, Ryan may have hit 3 HRs this spring against sub par minor league pitching but that's still a huge improvement for him after 1 HR all of last year in AA.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) Defensively, Anderson is far more ready. He's far more capable of being very good in CF. Offensively, I don't think I'd say Anderson is more ready. What's more important at this point in time? Having a player in CF how you're confident in his defense day in and day out or having a guy who can hit a little better but is a giant question mark in CF defensively. It comes down to: below average offense + above average defense or average to above average offense + questionable defense IMO, we need someone in CF that we know is going to give us solid defense. Also, I'm not a very big fan of BA but I do feel he is the right man for the job at this current point in time.
  19. I think Josh Fields should be our starting thirdbaseman this year. Joe Crede has sucked balls all spring and Josh Fields has been great, what ever happened to a player earning his spot during the spring? Crede should not get a free pass, it's pretty obvious that he needs some work in AAA still because his back is still bothering him. Josh Fields has 3 HRs off minor league pitching in Tucson that should be worth a starting job in the bigs. It sure wouldn't hurt anything.
  20. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) Call me old fashioned but there was a time when players earned their jobs based on performances in spring training... Anderson shouldn't just back into the job... If Sweeney does better then lets see if he can play a few games in CF... It sure wouldn't hurt anything... It would hurt you'd be placing a player on the 40 man roster, giving him a major league deal and starting the arbitration clock and all along this 21 year old is not ready for the big leagues. He hits a couple HRs off minor league pitchers in Tucson and suddenly he's ready to play every day in the majors at a postion he hasn't even played regularly at.
