White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron
QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) Borchard has power no one else on the bench has. And while Ozuna did play the OF a couple times last year, I cringe seeing him out there again this year. Borchard is a solid defensive player who can hit the ball a mile. Thus, I feel he fits a need that Gload does not. One last point on this, if Crede needs to go on the DL this year, Mack is the logical sub at 3B leaving a hole at the 4th OF spot. In that scenario, Borchard becomes the 4th OF. Gload only is a late inning defensive sub since Thome is going to play 1B when PK needs a day off. If Crede hits the DL I say Cintron (If he's still on the team) will be the sub, leaving Mack at his intended postion of UTIL and backup/parttime CF.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) So what's the reasoning on using the spot on Borchard when we have 2 other guys who can do the same thing and hit when called upon? Mack is going to be starting a lot this year in CF against tough righties and in the infield giving guys days off, Ozuna is going to be used primarily as a pinch runner and at times a pinch hitter for infielders seeing how he's a pathetic LF. That leaves a need for a guy who can play solid defense at all OF positions and add a little offense as well. Borchard can play 3 postions all of them well and those positions are more frequently subed for than the one position that Gload plays. That's the reasoning.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) IIRC, Gload replaced Konerko in the 9th inning of one of the very first games last year. Maybe even the opener. Made a pretty nice pick to end the game. I'm not entirely sure Konerko could've done the same thing. That's not a good reason to use a bench spot on a player and that play was during the 1st game of the season, there's a damn good chance Konerko would have made that play had he been in there.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Thome can switch from DH to 1B. Done. Next? If the Sox are forced to bat again and Konerko was pulled from the game with Thome going to 1B we lose the DH for the rest of the game. I still think this is a worthless arguement, who the hell keeps a player on the bench strickly to be a late-inning defensive replacement at 1B?

Peter King article on SI.com about the Sox
Nice article, shame he had to screw up Freddy's name.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) I'm just thinking that Borchard can't really do anything better than any of the other bench players. At least Gload can be a useful defensive replacement that allows both Thome and Konerko to stay in the lineup most of the time. Plus he's at least proven that he can hit major league pitching. Borchard can play all 3 OF positions well with a strong arm and decent range. He also has ridiculous power but poor plate discipline. Gload has proven that he can hit, this is somewhat true but he has also proven that he can only play one postion and it happens to be a postion that we have a surplus of very good players at. When it comes to value to the team Borchard wins out over Gload simply because of his defensive ability.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) So you really want to rely on our DH to be the backup at first? Absolutely, the guy has started at 1B his entire career, why all of a sudden is he only an everyday 1B? He'd be playing there maybe once or twice a week, I'm sure that would be a welcomed change for him to be able to get out on the field on defense.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Actually, he can play right field and first. Who's the better choice for back-up firstbaseman? Actually Gload can't play the outfield, he has proven that. If he's in RF we're in trouble.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Hairston. Him too. Do you get the feeling they like him? I sure don't. I think they really want a starting middle infielder.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) I think they have too many. Neifi Perez, Ronnie Cedeno and Todd Walker. Perez blows ass, Cedeno is a rookie and Todd Walker will probably be gone by the start of the season or atleast that's what they keep saying.

QUOTE(Fingish @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) this certianly smells like the precusor to another trade, we'll see what happens, but it wouldn't be surprising. i would say Ozuna would be the most likely to be shipped off, and knowing what kind of gambler KW is, if someone offers him something rediculous for Iguchi I wouldn't be surprised to see him go. he is in the last year of his contract, no? you know his agent isn't going to settle for $5mil. on his next contract. who in the world of baseball could we NOT get for a Contreras/Iguchi package? obviously not a very likely scenario, but you have to like that Kenny has stockpiled some very tradeable talent, and has the right replacements waiting in the wings. Iguchi is going nowhere, he has a $3.25M team option for next year and is one of the most productive 2B in all of baseball.

Good for Baj, he'll finally get a chance to be a regular out of the pen for a big league club.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) How the heck did you end up with Pujols and Cabrera? Cabrera fell in some drafts seeing how he'll be in a s***ty lineup next year, Miguel falling to #15 in a 8 team league is not out of the question assuming Pujols was taken with the second pick.

How do I play an hdtv file
Most HD files run in the area of 170 MB for a 22 min clip to 328 MB for a 45 min. clip. If you have a widescreen monitor you'll be seeing a pure high-def picture. It can also be burned onto a DVD and viewed on a standard TV with amazing quality.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Awesome works perfect. Does this actually mean I'm getting a true high def picture on my computer? Yes, yes it does. I watch a great majority of tv through HDTV torrent files during boring classes. The picture is just gorgeous on my laptop.

How do I play an hdtv file
Download the VLC media player. It's an all-purpose player that is compatible with just about every type of video format. Not to mention it's less of a hassle to used than Windows and Real.

Guillen says Anderson is worthy of CF job
I think by Ozzie saying he thinks Anderson is good enough to be his starting CFer he is actually saying that Jerry Owens will start the regular season in CF for the Sox. Brian Anderson is not good and should retire from baseball where as Jerry Owens is the obvious choice in CF.
