Official Twinkies Suck Thread
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) No. Do you see how well mauer has hit with men in scoring position? Sure he has low rbi totals but whenever he has been given the chance to drive runs in he does it. Mauer is a sick defensive catcher and will only get better. I have always thought pierz was one of the better defenders in baseball but no one seemed to believe me. He was ''bad at blocking balls in the dirt''. My ass. Mauer>>> pierz and i really like pierz. Mauer has has will always hover around .300 ( much like pierz has throughout most of his career. The big difference is mauer sees alot more pitches and walk at a much better pace... wouldn't be surprised to see him post a .400 obp in a year or two. Mauer is also one of the faster catchers in the league... not gonna steal you many bases but you have alot more options with mauer than pierzynski... such as a hit and run with mauer being the runner. I wouyld give mauer the defensive edge too but i am not sure how long he will last at the position. Mauer offensively, especially power wise, seeing as how AJ has never hit more than 11 HRs in any given season and I could see Mauer hitting 25+ HRs regularly for the rest of his career, is better than AJ. Mauer probably will put up a huge OBP for his career seeing how he already has a great eye. Avg wise they'll probably be the same, around .300. Mauer Defensively is probably a little better than AJ right now. AJ and Mauer are both excellent defenders, AJ especially is brilliant when it comes to blocking the ball in the dirt. IMO Mauer's arm is superior to AJs. When you look at CS% for AJ you have to remember it is sqewed due to who he catches for, seeing how 3/5 of his SPs suck at holding runners at first. But still AJ has never had the strongest arm. Mauer on the other hand has an absolute cannon. The reason I think AJ is a tiny bit better than Mauer as of right now is in calling a game. AJ has always been known as a great game caller and this year just exemplifies it. He is f***ing brilliant when it comes to this, Mauer on the other hand is still learning and it will take a while before he can learn to call a game to the extent that AJ can, if he even has to seeing how he could be a 3rd baseman soon. AJ makes your pitching staff better, plain and simple. If f***ing El Duque would stop shaking him off he would be pitching a whole hell of a lot better too. I've seen about 2/3 of the Twin's games this year on my Extra Innings package and have fallen in love with the way that Mauer plays the game.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) Doesn't Mauer have a knee problem? He had some knee problems at the end of last year and during spring training. The Twins have been extremely careful with him, resting him atleast twice a week. He had a flare up a couple weeks ago and missed some games but has been pretty healthy of late. His knees are something to be concerned about but in the end if his knees get so bad that he can no longer catch on a regular basis he will probably be moved to third and be one of the best offensive third basemen in the game.

Official Twinkies Suck Thread
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) I agree, Mauer>Aj Actually right now performance wise AJ>Mauer But potential wise Mauer>>>AJ Some people are already calling Morneau and Mauer the modern day M&M brothers comparing them to Mantle and Maris. Though it is still too soon to be making comparison's like this it is entirely plausible.

KW response to Everett, Buehrle & Ozzie comments..
I love this move. Use the offdays to your advantage, you have to try and keep el Duque as healthy as possible for the stretch run. Weren't most of us assuming they were going to do this through out the entire year comming into this season?

Official Twinkies Suck Thread
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Wow, I have to say I'm doubly grateful to the Twins for sucking so much today. First, they're current team SUCKS all the way to a 7-2 loss, then the catcher that they were stupid enough to let go (SUCKY personnel department) hits the GW HR for us! So, for those of you keeping score at home, the Twinkies STILL SUCK! They weren't stupid in letting AJ go. They had Joe Mauer who in my book looks like he will become a damn good player. It was time for AJ to go, Mauer was ready. The Giants are the dumbasses for picking Tomko over AJ.

Vote for All-City team 2005
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) kalapse, do you know if there gonna have 3 seperate polls for outfielder or just 1 poll and the top 3 get it. How do you think they are going to do the polls for sps and rps? They have seperate polls for all outfield positions LF/CF/RF. For Starting pitchers it is one big poll including all ten starters from the two Chicago teams. So it should finish: Buehrle Garland Garcia Contreras Hernandez Then they have 6 bullpen spots available and a poll including 12 pitchers out of the pen from Chicago. So it should finish: Hermanson Politte Cotts Marte Shingo Vizcaino Then you have a poll for all around bench. Sox Vs. Cubs. Sox will win. And finally a poll for Manager Ozzie Vs. Dusty. Ozzie all the way.

It's destiny
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) That was the most exciting game at USCF since Frank took Guardado deep to win the game in 2003. I think the Jose Paniagua era began and ended the next night or the night after that. The ninth inning was as wild as I have ever seen the park. Little old ladies with canes were high fiving everyone. As the Diceman once said,"Its unbelievable." I missed todays game (f***ing work) though I did tivo it. What makes up for it is that I was at that game in 2003, I'll never forget it. Konerko was struggling so bad at the time. It was crazy Carl and Robbie's first games as White Sox as well. Koch pitched the 11th and the 12th. He gave up the go ahead run in the top of the 11th. Then in the bottom of the 11th Konerko (who was horrible at the time) pinch hit for Daubach, the crowd was chanting Paulee, Paulee. He then proceeded to hit a bomb to left center. The crowd went absolutely ape s***. Koch worked a good top of the 12th not surendering a run. Then in the bottom of the 12 Robbie Alomar came up and just missed a HR down the left field line, just foul, he tehn walked. Frank Thomas came to the plate after I believe Tony G. made an out. Frank hit an absolute bomb to left field, the f***ing ball was a mile in the air. The crowd (which I think was around 20,000) was louder than I have ever heard a crowd. By far the best game I have ever attended.

Realignment
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Good thing you're not GM. It's fine the way it is. I'm pretty sure a GM has no say in the alignment of the league.

Buehrle gets tweaked by Cub `cheater'
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) As the saying goes, "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying!" Anyway, it's all in good hearted nature. It's gamesmenship. I also think MB made the comment about Zambrano because he wanted to show that there are other guys who have experience besides Maddux. Eh well. That's exactly what he was saying.

Buehrle gets tweaked by Cub `cheater'
Jesse Rogers is on the Score right now and he's playing MBs press conference from last night. Rogers should just let this s*** go. The funny thing is George Offman is the one that was grilling him during the press conference. He should never go on the Score again.
